HUNTSVILLE BRIDGE BUILDING THIS WEEKEND: The "Huntsville trail work" is
construction of the NWCC/GHORBA bridge, for which NWCC donated $1,500 for
materials. Huntsville State Park is a long-time TMBRA race venue and a local
off road venue where the hard work and presence of off-road cyclists is
appreciated and encouraged.
Preliminary work (the hard part) will be done on Saturday - installing footers
and such, and the rest (runners and decking) will be completed on Sunday.
The Sunday work party meets at the Interpretive Center (just past the Park entry
gate) at 9am. If you have a powerful cordless drill and/or large crescent
wrenches, please bring them. Lunch will be provided by
GHORBA. The last bridge GHORBA built, earlier this year, was completed by
lunch-time on Sunday with a good group of volunteers. For more information, or
if you'd like to help out with the Saturday work, please contact Richard at
kilo9@... or Jimm at
schroeder_jimm@...
So come be part of this joint NWCC/GHORBA project! Don't forget to bring your
bike and ride before or after the bridge work!
JACK BROOKS WORK PARTY THIS SUNDAY: Jack Brooks work party this Sunday June 29th
at the usual time of 11:00am till 3:00pm followed by a ride (some people will
ride before the work party as well). Sure the trails will need cleaning up
after all the rain and all the vegetation growth. Be sure to bring mosquito
repellent, wear protective clothing if you are highly allergic to poison ivy, we
will do our best to provide sticks to knock down all the spider webs. The
insects are quick to remind us that they own the park and they are just letting
us use it. The material for the entrances is still in the making, but hopefully
by the end of summer we will have all the entrances done. But sure to tell your
friends and I hope to see everybody at the park. If any body has any questions,
just send an e-mail. And if you plan to make the meeting, send a line to help
us organize drinks and stuff. Adios, Edgar B.
