DASH 4 CASH AND WESTSIDE RIDE SATURDAY, June 21st. STARTS at 8:30 am
Know the Westside of town?? Think you’re fast?? Just feel like riding with a
group of people and seeing some of the better parts of Houston?? Come on out to
the Westside of Houston for good time!

WE WILL MEET AT THE PARKING LOT ON THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF KIRKWOOD AND MEMORIAL
AT 8:00 am TO COMPLETE SIGN-IN AND ENVELOPE DISTRIBUTION. At 8:30 we will then
have a nice little 20ish-mile jaunt around the west side of Houston racing for
cash and some schwag. The route can be accomplished by mostly riding on
permeable trail surfaces, but some street riding is necessary. Put on your map
thinking caps and your knowledge of the west side of town.

There will be five official checkpoints that everyone must locate so that you
can ride to the next checkpoint. Hints will be given as to permeable route
selections. These may not be the fastest, but are always options. We will end up
at a small town favorite hot spot and chow down and swap stories of the ride, so
bring some food money.

This fun event involves riding your bike around the west side of Houston to see
the local flora and fanua, and if you are speedy/lucky enough, you may pick up
some extra cash for that next chi-chi bike part.

Entry fee is $10 with all proceeds going to help GHORBA build and maintain
trails in and around the Houston area and to support the Sprockids program.

RULES:

· Helmets that are rated by CSPS or other people qualified to rate helmets
(please no styrofoam ice chests) must be worn on your head.

· Mountain bikes are required, no cyclocross or road bikes. (Unicycles are
groovy and approved riding equipment!)

· You Must sign the waiver.

· You Must ride to all 5 checkpoints to receive clues for checkpoint locations
and finish.

· You Must have all 5 written clues in hand to receive award. No clues, no cash
or prizes.

· No 2-way radios permitted for riders - you’re on your own!

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO TRAFFIC LAWS AND WATCH OUT FOR CARS!!!

Payouts:

1st Male & Female: 8% each of total registration fees

2nd Male & Female: 5% each of total registration fees

3rd Male & Female: 2X entry fee ($20 each)

Special Award for last place with all the clues!!

HUNTSVILLE BRIDGE BUILDING: Saturday and Sunday, June 28th and 29th. We will
team up with the volunteers from Northwest Cycling Club to build a bridge with
materials donated by NWCC. Work will start at 9:00 a.m. both days. For more
information contact Richard at kilo9@... or Jimm at
schroeder_jimm@.... THIS COUNTS FOR 2004 PAYDIRT POINTS - get it out of
the way early!

JACK BROOKS WORK PARTY AND RIDE: We will be working on the trail entrances that
will help minimize the horse and four wheeler traffic on our trails. And, as
usual, we need to do regular trail maintenance and improvements. The day will
go like this: scheduled ride from 8:00am until 11:00. Then we will work on the
trail till around 3:00pm, and for those real sickos, we can ride again
afterwards. Send e-mails with suggestions about the schedule and to inform
Edgar @ focuz@... if you can make the work party. This schedule allows
those people who attend church on Sunday to come to the park at the regular
11:00 and ride afterwards. As always Edgar would like to thank everybody for
taking part in our trails. THIS COUNTS FOR 2004 PAYDIRT POINTS - Get it out of
the way early!

ANT HILLS MEMORIAL: To answer all the e-mails we have been receiving lately we
thought we would pass on some information on the Memorial at the Anthills. The
dead guy is John "Sporkie" Washbourne. But, he ain't dead. John was a
volunteer film subject for Nick Gonzales and his helmet cam. If you know Nick
you know he is fast and this puts some pressure on the movie star to push harder
than they are capable of riding in some cases (this one for sure). The ride
took a spin at tree where the memorial is when the former astronaut once again
took flight. After the launch came a fiery re-entry and a crash landing on a
root to the rump. Since Sporkie is moving to California, a big group ride and
BBQ was planned for a Saturday and one of the trail gnomes found his way out to
the trails the night before and created this memorial knowing that the group
would fly by it on their ride. Well, a good laugh was had by all, and an Urban
Legend was born. Soon you could hear people talking as
they walked and talked about the guy who died at the Anthills. We have had at
least 15 e-mails sent to GHORBA asking about this. John's alive and well and on
his way to California. Sporkie is immortal!
