IMBA Visit, Fat Tire Festival and Monthly Meeting   Message List

Agenda for this month:

Trail Building School, Saturday and Sunday, January 11th and 12th - Cost is
$25/person, class size limited to 50 people, so please sign-up soon - you
can RSVP to LPRUITT@... (you can access the PayPal link from
the GHORBA website).
School includes 1/2 day of classroom work starting at 9:00 a.m. and 1/2 day
of trail layout at Memorial Park on Saturday until approximately 4:00 p.m.
Sunday will be a trail work day to implement the work designed on Saturday.
The cost of the clinic covers lunch both days, the IMBA Trail Building
Guide, IMBA socks, and the cost of renting the classroom facility. The
West End Community Center is located on Heights Blvd between I-10 and
Washington Street adjacent to White Oak Bayou. Please bring some paper and
something to write with.

Bikesport Open House 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. - Come meet and chat with the
IMBA Trail Care Crew Scott and Aaryn...your opinions matter. Refreshments
will be served.
Bikesport also has some great 2003 bikes and merchandise to check out.
www.bikesport.com. Bikesport is located on Joanel Street near Edloe and
West Alabama Streets.

Monday Night Ride and Dinner 6:00 p.m. at Memorial Park - We will do our
weekly ride with Scott and Aaryn then head to Mission Burrito on West
Alabama for dinner afterwards. Bring lights, a bike, and your helmet!

REI Presentation Tuesday, January 14th THIS IS THE GHORBA JANUARY
MEETING!!!
- Scott and Aaryn will share a presentation at REI showing mountain biking
all over the world. The
presentation starts at 6:00 p.m. and will last approximately 45 minutes. A
social hour and refreshments will follow the presentation. REI is located
on I-10 west between Chimney Rock and Silber (if you're coming from the
west, it's the Antoine exit). Go to www.rei.com for more information on
the presentation and many of their great products and trips.

Westside Day Wednesday, January 15th - The Trail Crew will spend the day
with riders on the west side of town looking at trails, then riding in the
afternoon. Westside Bicycles will have an open house starting at 3:00 p.m.
and ending at 7:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served. More info to be
provided on the day's events. Go to www.mtnbikerider.com to see what sale
items they will be offering.

West End Bikes Weekly Ride Thursday, January 16th 6:30 p.m. - West End
Bikes will have an open house from 5:00 to 6:30, then everyone will do the
weekly 20-mile ride around town (moderate pace). WE has some great 2003
bikes and merchandise. Check out www.westendbikes.com for more
information. West End is located on Blossom - from Memorial Park go east
on Memorial to Detering (light after Westcott) and take a left. Go north
until you get to Blossom and take a left. WE is one block west of Detering
St.).

Friday - Presentations and meetings with Houston-area land managers -
Closed to the public. IMBA will assist GHORBA in educating officials on
trail building and management techniques. This symposium will focus on the
need for unimproved surface trails of every type in Houston. The Quality
of Life Coalition will be presenting, as well as the City of Seabrook,
GHORBA, IMBA, and the Houston-Galveston Area Council. It should be a great
meeting.

FAT TIRE FESTIVAL, Saturday, January 18th at Double Lake Recreation area -
We are going to top off the week with a great party.

We have tons of SWAG for everyone and donations for prizes for the time
trial and poker run, as well as for the silent auction (please check out
the list of prizes and silent auction items on the mtnbikerider website).
Krispy Kreme is also donating 30 DOZEN donuts for breakfast...YUM!! Lunch
will be great pasta and salad, so bring your appetite. Moses Guest will be
playing and Saint Arnold Brewing will be supplying beverages starting at
2:30!!! We are reserving group camping areas and are
looking forward to hanging out for the weekend. If you sign up early, you
save $5. You can sign up using the PayPal link on the GHORBA site or pay
$30 at the door. Come join the fun!!!!
