Wanted to pass on the latest on the article published in The Woodlands "The
Villager" newspaper about cycling. You may recall the article mentioned
opening car doors and using paint guns to encourage cyclists in the
Woodlands to use the hike/bike paths instead of the roadways regardless of
the cycling speeds people use to train and the number of pedestrians on the
paths. The article can be viewed on www.biketexas.org. The good news is
that anti-cycling attitudes and ignorance can be changed with some good
diplomacy.
If you're not familiar with the Texas Bicycle Coalition, please visit the
site to see what they're doing for cycling, both on and off road, advocacy
across Texas and in Houston.

Subject: Victory in The Woodlands
Dear Board,
I want to extend a special congratulations to Randy Wile and Gail Hurley
for adding another victory to TBC's ever-growing list of accomplishments.
Randy and Gail started on their idea by mid-afternoon Friday to meet with
the publisher ASAPand got an appointment scheduled today.
Both Randy and Gail reported back to me about their extremely productive
meeting with Michael Moore, editor of The Woodlands, "The Villager"
newspaper today. In addition to the retraction the newspaper will post, it
looks like TBC will even be able to start submitting a monthly column. For
the latest update and photo on today's meeting, go to www.biketexas.org.
Please feel free to encourage any of your email lists to go to the TBC
website for the most up-to-date information about this situation.
Once again, thanks to the diplomatic style of Randy and Gail and for
providing such a a positive presence for cyclists that only the locals
could bring. True advocacy in action!
Bicycle everywhere!
Gayle
