Please join us this Saturday morning at 9 a.m. for the April GHORBA ride at
Huntsville State Park. Beginners are most certainly welcome....we have
people to ride with at every level.
The trails are not in the best shape, so we will also be discussing trail
repairs and working on the schedule for work parties over the summer to get
the trails back into shape before the race this September. The first work
party is being planned for Memorial weekend with poeple from Northwest
Cycling, GHORBA, and Bikelane....work for 3 hours, ride, relax, eat, camp,
wake up Sunday, work 3 hours, ride, and then go home. We're planning this
out with the forest service and will finalize details when we know them.
Directions to Huntsville: From downtown Houston take I-45 north. The exit
for the park is off of I-45. You go through Conroe, Willis, and New
Waverly. After the New Waverly exit you will pass a roadside picnic area
early in the morning will have 18 wheelers and RV's parked there from over
night. About five miles from the picnic area is the exit to the park.
There will be a large brown exit sign with Huntsville State Park on it. Go
to the stop sign turn left and drive into the park.
If you have missed the park exit as you are driving north you will see a
very large white statue of Sam Houston on your right.. Go to the next exit
and turn back south to the park exit.
At the pay station in the park it will cost $3.00 per person. From the pay
station about 200 yards is the Interpretive Center, a small building on
your right. This is the trail head and you can park anywhere in front of
the building or on both sides of the road.
From downtown Houston it is about 75 miles.
