GHORBA April 2002 Meeting
Jax Grill, Houston, TX

Harris County Flood Control Property New Trail Opportunity : Ryan Spates.
GHORBA had a meeting with 5 representatives of HCFC concerning
approximately 1600 acres in northeast Houston near Beltway 8 and 59. This
property is adjacent to the Rio Bravo MX race course. Preliminary talks
are positive on potential trail development at the site. HCFC is looking
into details and funding possibilities. HCFC also stated that they have
many other potential sites for mountain bike and hiking trails that would
be managed under the county park system. Lastly, HCFC is talking with
Reliant about using power line Rights-of-way to connect HCFC property along
the bayous for trails.

Temple Inland Property near Jasper : Chris Case. TMBRA and GHORBA have
begun preliminary discussions with an employee at Temple Inland (forest
products) about possibly developing recreational/mountain bike trails on TI
property south of Jasper. Gail Hurley with TMBRA, Scott Schaefer with
TMBRA/GHORBA, and Chris Case are to meet with Robert Wilson of TI in the
next couple of weeks.

Ant Hills Report: Mark Wise. Mark and crew have worked on getting trail
work being coordinated through GHORBA members in the area rather than being
done by individuals. They have talked to many people about not cut new
trails or reopen old trails, etc. Also having good conversations with
adjacent neighbors.

East End Park Kingwood: Chris Case. Trails are in good shape and bridges
have been rebuilt.

Mountain Bike Swap Meet : Garth McCann. Possible fund raising opportunity.
Bike shops would set up tents and sell parts, participants can swap or buy
parts, have a riding clinic, have other events. Profits to go to park and
GHORBA. Garth is looking into preliminary info. Bikesport came up with
idea.

Weekly Rides : Steffi Penco - Daylight saving times is back! We are going
to resume our traditional Monday night rides at Memorial Park. The infamous
chick rides are also back, so gear up and join the ride! This is a great
opportunity to have a fun ride, meet other fellow riders and ask our expert
leaders for any advise, help and anything else that can help you with to
make your ride more fun. Please join us every Monday night starting at 5:30
PM in the parking lot near the rugby/soccer field (West Side of MP). We'll
ride until dusk and later for those who wish to have night rides and are
equipped with lights.

April Ride and Trail Work Planning : Huntsville State Park Saturday, April
27th at 9:00 am. We will ride and look at areas that need to be repaired.
GHORBA, NWCC, and Bike Lane are putting together a multi-group trail work
plan for getting the Huntsville trails back in shape for the fall race and
just for general trail use. Serious structural repairs need to be made due
to erosion and flooding during Alison.

Memorial Park Trail Work Party : Larry Pruitt. This Saturday, April 13th
at Memorial Park. 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Bring shovels, rakes, and hoes. No
need for branch trimmers.

Tour de Fat : Chris Case. Check out www.newbelgiumbrewing.com concerning
the Tour de Fat at Rocky Hill on Saturday the 18th of May. Also want to
look at possibly putting together a local version of this party/ride with
St. Arnolds to benefit GHORBA. Tim Hannum has graciously offered to assist
me in this endeavor.

Quarterly Newsletter : Want/need to put together a quarterly newsletter for
members only. Anyone interested in working on this? This newsletter will
be mailed to members only. Chris Garrison and Steffi Penco have offered to
write articles for the first newsletter due out this summer. If you are
interested, please contact Christina about contributing an article.

Officer Elections : GHORBA will be holding officer elections this October
for all executive and committee head positions. A full slate of positions,
duties, and requirements will be issued by the end of July for people to
review and submit their applications. You must be a paid GHORBA member to
run for office or vote.

Membership Report : Amanda Blessing. Handed out membership cards to those
present. Please contact her if you have paid and not received your's.

Treasurer Report : Garth McCann. West End Bicycles bought 7 jerseys and
paid GHORBA the cost of the jerseys. Bikesport bought 6 and paid cost for
them. Garth will be talking to the other sponsoring shops to see if they
are interested in selling the jerseys in their stores.

Jack Brooks : Garth McCann. There is a meeting this Saturday morning with
Galveston Parks Department and GHORBA reps concerning the existing trails
and proposed new loops.
