GHORBA and West End Cycles will be having a group ride at
Double Lake in the Sam Houston National Forest on Saturday, May 19th. The
ride will start at 9:00 am. There will be riding groups of all ability
levels.
Directions are as follows:
From downtown Houston take U. S. Highway 59 to Cleveland, Texas. On the
bypass around Cleveland you will pass Highway 105, the very next exit is FM
2025. There is a big green highway sign with FM 2025 and Coldspring on it.
Take this exit. At the top of the hill turn left and go northwest for
about 16 miles and th! ere will be a big brown sign out front of the park
entrance saying Double Recreation Area. Turn right into the park, go to
the pay station and pay $5.00 per vehicle for parking. If you wish to
picnic, swim, or camp there is an additional fee. But to just park and use
the bike trails it is $5.00.
From the pay station you can see the road Y's just ahead of you. You want
to take the road to the left and follow it all the way down a parking area
were it basically dead ends into an open grassy area. Park anywhere around
this area. To your left, about a 75 yards, you will see a large brown
building which are the rest rooms and showers. Somewhere between the rest
rooms and parking area will be a white van with Team West End written on
the side. The van is the focal point and where those who are hosting the
ride will be.
If you live in Spring and north take I-45 to New Waverly exit and go east
on Highway 150 to Coldspring. Just before ! entering the town FM 2025 ends
at Hwy. 150. Take a right and go maybe half mile on your left you will see
the sign into the park.
From downtown Houston it is about 65 miles.
