Subject: Debate on role of mod or -- Brian feel free to be as geeky as you want to be!

This may be a good time for a debate on my role as moderator of the
list server.

I see my primary role as helping anyone with technical problems with
the list server such as resolving bouncing, enrolling, and so forth.

I see my secondary role as keeping the list server at a family
oriented level of obscenity etc. So far I have never considered nor
has anyone suggested that I need to apply this role. I have also
taken on the role of banning and deleting spam emailers and emails.

If anyone thinks my role should be something different in any way
please let me know. I am a volunteer not an anarchist, although
while dreaming I sometimes aspire to be one.

I don't own the list server. Originally, I tried to get a bulletin
board started for our local cyclists. Jim Long asked me to start a
list server rather than a bulletin board as the bulletin board would
require a log in to check messages rather than emails automatically
being sent to everyone that opts in. The only benefit of the
bulletin board is that we could have unlimited storage of files such
as cheat sheets, photos, and the like.

I would actually like to set up a web site for FrederickVelo that
would include cheat sheets etc. to coincide with the list server. I
would just add the site to the racerneal.com website as separate
pages. So, if you have any cheat sheets or photos to add please
send them to me at dwayne@....

The short story is that if the group suggests that someone else
should do the moderating, or share the moderating, then that is the
group's option.

Dwayne

What debate? I have heard nothing about any grumblings on the list server. Dwayne you are doing a fine job. Performing a duty that no one else will find the time to do.
My only complaint is that could you post more pictures of me on the web site............................. just kidding

Chris, great ride yesterday, even better than last week. My quads are talking to me this morning. THANKS!

Have a great 2006

No problems Dwayne, It fact the list server is a real pain getting
all the emails.
Is a cheat sheet like a ride map? That ride yesterday should go in
as a top 10 ride. No violent hills, Babbling brooks, Super
overlooks, beautiful valleys, Low traffic, Good road surfaces. From
Frederick it is a 60 mile ride.
Here is a general idea...Goes like this:
Rt 40W
hollow road
rt 17
rt 77 w
Quick right at light
quick right onto 491?
Mt Zion 2nd one
R on foxville
L on Brown
Garfield
R on Brandenburg Hollow
R on Stottlemeyer
straight on Pleasant something
Easterday
L on something
R on 17
L on Valley View
L on Hollow

Dwayne's been smoking crack again. ;-) You're doing a fine job.

Pillowsplat...see below for some turn cues and road names that I can
remember...It's been a little while since I've been on some of these
roads...however, I can't remember all the turns.

Ditto ... Yesterdays ride was a great loop. As far as the list
server crap, I think everything is fine. One more thing, I know I'm
one of the new kids, but nice picture of my rusty Trek 760 posted
someplace conspicuous would be nice. And for those who suggested
during yesterdays ride that my bike would blend in nicely with the
old rusty cars and tractors in the barn yard on the right going up
rt. 17, I don't get mad, I get even!

One thing I have learned over my short tenure in the cycling world, it is
not about what you ride it is all about the engine pushing the pedals.
However 5lbs less when climbing hills saves the engine valuable fuel.

Jimbo Jimbo. Tom and I have been working on him for 6 months. I had
him on the ropes....now you gave him a toe hold. That means I will
have to service his Trek for another year. It hurts my back everytime
I lift the thing up into the bike stand. Not to mention the chance of
tetanus is very real.

Don and John, Will not make it tonight, I'm toast, 3 hours in the saddle up 77 into the park.

On a side note, any rides planned for this weekend? Saturday looks cold, high in the upper 30's. Sunday in the middle 40's.
I plan on riding both days. Sunday start time for me will be around 12:00-1:00, I need to go and declare all my misgivings from the past week or so.

Saturday looks to be cold, the updated forecast is still in the 30's. I will be indoors on the trainer for Saturday unless a big turn out is posted for a ride and I can hide. Sunday I plan on riding around 12:00 if anyone wants to join in. Will leave my house around 12:00 and head up 40 and then Harp Hill and then return back through Cunningham Falls Park, back side, then onto 550 with a short stop at Sheetz in Thurmont for some java. Aprox. miles 45 + or - . Temps expected to be around 45 at 2:00 on Sunday.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Don and John let me know what you may want to do.
Curt maybe we can convince you to head on out.

Jim,
Sunday 1st. I would like to catch up with you on Sunday but I think Don
and I are going to catch up with the Wheel Base ride and utilize it as
a 3 hour foundation mile ride. Although noon would be much warmer it
kicks the rest of the day in the Butt.
Saturday I'll probably head out about 10:00 from my house (Lake
Linganore) and head for the Gambrill area for some climbing repeats. My
guess is you don't want to do 2 days of hills. I was planning on riding
alone since everybody is on a different schedule and different training
program.
We need to talk as you seem to be coming out of base training. Do you
want to hit some of those early crits in Feb?
How does one chase down registration to the Marba races?

This Sunday 1/7 and next Sunday 1/14 I will not be able to lead the 9:00
ride from Wheel Base.
We ride as long as it's above 25 degrees and no perception. We check
www.weather.com for the temperature.
I have talked to some riders who are going to show and there may be enough
for two rides.
Looks like it will be around 35 degrees.

There's a new training series starting up this year sponsored by Whole
Wheel Velo, I've heard. The races are going to be held at Quicksilver.
This is a very easy course to ride. Nice wide turns and little to no
traffic. Keep your eyes open on the D20 listserv as Jimbo said.

I plan on getting my feet wet at the trade zone series, this race in the
past fills up quickly, B and C race, no online registration, get there
early!!! and stand in line.
Not sure what the Winter Solstice Series is about starting 2/12, new event,
may try that also.
Check out the MABRA site and the tentative race schedule is posted for 2006.
