Anybody have off tomorrow, July 3? Looking for a ride?
Potomac Pedalers have these rides for us:
July 3
CC * 45 * MD * 8 AM * Thurmont Community Park (TCP) North of Thurmont. We will head north to Emmitsburg and Fairfield on scenic rolling back roads in a rural setting. We will explore the northern Frederick valley with uninterrupted views of the Catoctin Mountains. A rest stop is planned at mile 21. Ride will be swept. No go on wet roads. Two water bottles recommended. Linda and Lanny Evans 301/590-0088.
BB * 57 * MD * 9 AM * Monocacy MS (MMS) Knock, Knock, Knockin' on the President's Door. I did this ride for the first time last month and it was really pretty. Quiet roads. A nice 12 mile warm-up before a little climbing through Catoctin Mountain Park. It's almost all downhill from mile 22. Let's hope the holiday weekend will keep the president away. Mark Hemhauser [mbhhbm <> verizon.net] H: 202/543-8005 or 202/834-9309.
I saw in the FNP that Park Central is closed for security reasons, so the BB ride may have to alter their route and go up Rt. 77 instead.

I think I'm going to do the early Thurmont ride.

If you are thinking about the PPTC ride up Park Central road tomorrow, you may want to call the Ranger's office first. I've already heard of road closures-due to Camp David and this Holiday Weekend.

I'm looking for a good easy D ride on the trike tomorrow. Any interest?

Hi Jenny (et. al.)....I thought I'd hang on a little bit to await word from Mike.....however, I'll toss out this proposition: perhaps 11:15 am Utica? Thoughts, all?

So I did the Potomac Pedalers BB*57 ride as Martha suggested. I even passed
Martha near Thurmont (I don't think she saw me). The PP ride has a different
flavor. If you come off, you get left. The A riders took off at the start and we
never saw them again. I rode with the B group. We went up Catoctin Hollow, which
is really a long climb when you are trying to keep up. We did not wait for
anyone or re-group at the top. I did not have the q sheet, so I had to try to
stay with the group.
The road past Camp David was closed, so we had to go up Hwy 77. I was not too
disappointed since Hwy 77 is much less steep than going through the park. We did
stop at Sheetz for a rest stop where some riders rejoined the group (the A group
skipped the stop). The PP riders were very friendly. I would do another PP ride,
but you have to have the q sheet and plenty of water.
