Yo!

I've split this email into two! First part is going to be about
Brighton Beyond and the second part is going to be a few Flump
orientated things I want to chat about.

The plan is to go down on Friday by train, meeting at London Bridge
Station at 4pm! Is this time okay with everyone? We can always leave
later, but it'll be good to get down to Brighton early and miss the
rush hour crap! Get back to the group ASAP if you can't meet at 4!

When we get to Brighton, I think Jen and Liza are organising a cheeky
bbq session, after which we will hit the Casablanca or the Funky
Buddha, my two favourite Clubs of all time!

Accommodation on Friday night is still to be sorted, but since Jen,
Sam, Liza and I all have houses in Brighton, the party can carry on at
one of ours! I should have a free house.

Our first game is around noon on Saturday. We will be camping by the
pitches Saturday night, so we need tents! I have a 4-7 man one. Who
else can bring one? We need enough tent space for 15 players and I'm
guessing a few Flump supporters (Flumpporters?) Rubbish, sorry.

We will be getting the train back on Sunday evening!

I might be driving down on Friday and back up on Sunday, so the first
few who email me can shot-gun a spot! However I might not be driving,
I might get the train, so don't be pissed if you miss out on some
train saver deal or something.

Make sure you do the following:

1) Email the group back if you can not meet at London Bridge at 4pm
and tell us when you would prefer to leave.

2) Email the group if you can bring/ steal/ borrow a tent!

3) If anyone does not have a Flump shirt, can you please borrow one?
Or maybe purchase one off Manny?

General Flump stuff:

Well played to all those who came last night and those who have been
coming the weeks before, we have won all our pool games and are at the

The team yesterday had a few beginners who did not know the rules and
unfortunately this led to a couple of heated debates on the pitch.

In my case, the player I shouted at kept influencing calls that he was
not involved in. He was shouting his views immediately, whilst being
quite far away from the action.

The decision of the call is left up to those involved in it. If they
can not decide, then it opens up to those with best perspective and if
the teams cannot come to a satisfactory resolution, the disc is
returned to the thrower and put into play with a check, with the count
the same or at six if over five.

I wouldn't mind him expressing his views if Jenny and the girl could
not decide an outcome, but he was shouting from the very start!

In the rules it states: Novice Consideration

In non-tournament play, where a novice player commits a violation due
to ignorance of the rules, it shall be common practice to stop play
and explain the violation and the rule to the player.

I felt that I did this enough and he was still being a cock. I regret
shouting at him though, I guess I should have explained the rule again
and I am sure Sterling thinks he overreacted on a later call.

It all really comes down to Spirit of the Game:

Highly competitive play is encouraged but never at the expense of
mutual respect between players, adherence to the agreed-upon rules of
the game or the basic joy of play.

There is a thin line between trying really hard to win and not getting
annoyed at your opponents. As a team we are very good at being chilled
out and well spirited, but if you are like me and need a few tips this

I love the heckling remarks; we should definitely do more of that!

Of course above all! The best way to improve your spirit is to know
your rules!

Please read the rules as often as you can! They are quite complicated
and easy to forget. The more you know, the more confident you will be
on the pitch!

Here are a few rules and tips that are just on the top of my head:

1) Double Team: Only one marker is permitted to guard the thrower. No
other defensive player may establish a position within three meters of
the pivot of the thrower, unless that defender is guarding another
offensive player in that area.

So for instance if you are on d in the zone cup, you should be 3m (3
big steps) back from the thrower. You can only move closer if another
of the o players comes into the cup and then you can 'collapse'.

2) Straddle and Wrap arounds. There must be at least one disc diameter
between the upper bodies of the thrower and the marker at all times.
You should be able to fit one disc easily between you and your marker,
if he/she is too close, shout 'disc space', they should move back.
There is a no stop in play unless you shout foul or violation, which I
think you are allowed to do if someone is that close, others may not
agree. Also your marker's arms should not be wrapped around you, and
their feet and legs should not be straddling yours.

There is so much more... but I am getting tired and I am sure you are
bored. I'm definitely going to do a Flump Rule Quiz with penalties and
prizes.... that should make it more fun!

G is right! Our O and D was excellent yesterday and it was allot
better having less subs. This forum idea sounds cool!
