Tournament? Indoors you say? Why not? I say. For many its a perfect way to
spend the first weekend of February, inside a warm sports hall with your
friends chucking plastic around. But this ain't no normal tournie you say?
It's serious you say? Challenging? No worries I say? How challenging can it
be?

16 teams, top 5 will qualify for the nationals in March.
Seeded 12th, we were not quite sure how we will do. Having never played
together before and one of us having never played indoors before, it was
difficult to set an aim for ourselves.
Our first game against Sublime was over in a flash. It seemed that by the
time we had established which way home was and remembered that the stall
count was eight, they had won the game. 7-4 (i think)
The next game against MFS (top of our pool) was a different story. Flump was
wide awake and raring to go. Our zone defence was strong, and they seemed
taken aback by it. The tactic of changing our defence every point was a
success and we took the lead and managed to keep trading points with this
strong opponent. Wether we were doing dice or house zone, Manny, Gaz and
Harry were strong chasers, forcing the likes of Fire's Steve Wood, Louis and
Gaz back into their endzones. MFS had to really work hard to come back and
force a few offensive turnovers. They got tight on d and we were unlucky to
lose. They just won 6-4.
The rest of the weekend's games were very similar. We would play hard all
game, keeping the points level, only to lose by a couple of points in the
last few minutes. In one annoying case (against Mustard, old aye aye) we
were up by 3 but they managed to sneak back in the last few moments.
The whole weekend was filled with ups and downs. We played like superstars
but still only managed to end up in the plate final, which we lost in a
tough game against Woof. Having gone up to two nil we managed to lose it 5 -
3.
Even so, we had an amazing time and it was fantastic to see Flump grow into
such a strong force. No longer just a student team, we have grown into an
tactically minded squad, with fit, fast players. A little more experience
and who knows where we will end up next year!
The highs were occuring off the pitch too with games like Mafia, Durak,
Group Therapy and stealing Sam's chips while he goes to the bar. We all
bonded and I for one had allot of fun. Cheers Sam for sorting it all out! We
managed to take allot of your chips and we were surprised you did'nt find
out.
Things to remember:
Tom's push passes.
Everyone coming back to handle, even Mental Gaz!
The look on Manny's face when someone managed to catch his dodgy hammer.
Sui was the homophobe and Sam was the gay.
Never let Harry host a game of Mafia.
Best quotes of the weekend have to be from Harry:
After losing another close game;
Harry: 'I'm not used to losing. Its fucking annoying. Now i see why the
teams we have beaten over the last year get so pissed off.'
During a game of Mafia;
Harry the host: 'Okay, doctor open your eyes. Now Manny choose someone you
would like to save.'
