Attached should be a PDF version of the proposed by-laws to the FJI Board of
Directors from the Law and Legislation Committee. This is to be discussed at

Special Thanks to that committee for their hard work on this.

I wanted to remind everyone that the Sunshine State Games is the venue for the FJI state championship this year.  Get your team pride in action and bring a large group to compete!  This is a great warm up for the Junior National events, is one of the least expensive events of the year, and is just plain fun - a holiday tradition. Perhaps we can even convince the old guys like Gerry, Fred, and Brian- oops - the Masters to do some matches to see who is the best! Come out and support this event.

IMPORTANT!!!!!     All pre-registration entries must be received by May 29, 2009 or register online at www.flasports. com by June 11, 2009.

Greetings to all.  Just an update on the itinerary of the FL-GA Weekend June 5-7.  Tentatively, Friday night will be instructed by Dr. Lentz and Hiram Cruz, involving newaza techniques, specifically how to get into the guard then sweeps from the guard, followed by randori games involving sweeps/guard passes.

Saturday morning sessions will be taught by Brian Germain and Delcides Diaz.  Favorite combinations in tachiwaza as well as kumikata (gripping) will be emphasized.

Saturday afternoon sessions, instructed by John Fiege and Hiram Cruz, will be tachiwaza into newaza (transitions) at the international level.

Saturday evening session will be a special session taught by some decorated super-heavyweights in "How to eat not until you're full, but until you're tired".  Bring a swimsuit and towel as a belly flop contest will be held, and Dr. Lentz will share his secrets on the atomic butt drop.

Sunday session will be potpouri, tying everything together, by Brian Germain and Dr. Lentz.

Every session will include a great deal of randori - 20 min. out of every hour.  Those wishing to not participate in randori are welcome to help coach or rest.

Group rates for accomodations are available at the Western Motel for $45/night (phone is (912) 427-7600) or the Jameson Inn for $62.99/night (phone (912) 427-6800).  Tell them you are there for "Judo" to receive these rates.  Both are clean and offer free continental breakfast.  As is tradition, a "sleepover" for any kids (inc. guardian, if desired) is available at World Gym for $10/night/person, including breakfast.  Bring a sleeping bag and pillow.  Girls will be in one room, boys in another, and the building will be locked down.

We have had tremendous response to this camp from all over Florida and Georgia and feel it will be a great opportunity for those preparing for the summer events.  Hope to see everyone there!  Please call (912) 427-9220 (World Gym - leave a message) or (912) 424-9086 (cell) if you would like anymore information.

Yours in judo,
Randy Lentz, MD

Jesup Judo will be hosting an entire judo training weekend June 5-7 for all
Florida and Georgia judoka to prepare for summer competitions. Jesup is located
in SE GA, halfway between Jacksonville and Savannah and halfway between Atlanta
and the Central FL region. This is your opportunity to train with some of the
best coaches and players in the country, including former Cuban Olympic coach
Sensei Rafael (sorry - I don't know his last name) and many other international
players and coaches. It is also a great chance to train with new bodies you
might not normally train with.

Jesup Judo has two Olympic-mat sized training areas within a World Gym and has
full locker room facilities and lounge areas. Accomodations inside the World
Gym are available for overnight guests, and a pool party/luau will be included
on Saturday evening for all attendees and their accompanying family members. We
will train from 7-9pm Friday, 10am-12pm and 1:30-4:30pm Saturday, and
10:30am-1:30pm Sunday. Many amazing coaches will instruct, with a great deal of
time and attention devoted to randori, during which you may be coached and
corrected by world-class coaches. Don't miss this first-rate opportunity!

Contact head coach Randy Lentz, MD for more details and to be added to the email
list for updates: rlentz7@... or (912) 424-9086.

Bill,
We feel the same way.   This has been one of our concerns for several years, especially with the difficult economy.  With Nationals costing $200 per division, that doesn't leave much in the kitty.  We realize that everyone wants to make a buck when they hold a tournament, but it seems more like the amount of money that the tournament hosts are making is more of a consideration than the reason for holding a tournament in the first plaace... that is developing young athletes.

Subject: [Florida_Judo] Florida Tournaments

With the heavy tournament season and the back to back tournaments that are happening here in Florida. My club will not be able to attend all these tournaments. The parents in my club have made it clear to me that they just can't afford all these tournaments and have agreed that they can do probably 3 to 4 tournament's a year if they are given advanced notice like one year, so they can save for the event. The entry fees are going sky high along with the cost of gas and tolls. I hope that the tournament Directors understand that I am not avoiding their tournaments. I will continue to support as many tournaments as possible. It's time to think long term. If you are going to hold a tournament.

Here are the tournaments that I support on an annual basis.

1. Sunshine State Games
2. FJI Florida State Championships
3. USJA Florida State Championships
4. Cherry Blossom Open
5. Rattler Roundup
6. Dragon's Challenge
7. Disney Martial Arts Festival
8. USA Judo Junior Olympics
9. USA Junior Open
10. All National events & Foreign event that students qualify for.

Let's think of the future for Florida Judo. We have great players and they deserve the best tournaments and plenty of players to play against. Right now the divisions are small and we as a Florida group need to change that. Our students just aren't getting the necessary number of matches they need to be on the National level.

respectfully,
William E Andreas USA Continental Coach
Central Florida Judo & Jujitsu
Vice-President FJI Central Region

With the heavy tournament season and the back to back tournaments that are
happening here in Florida. My club will not be able to attend all these
tournaments. The parents in my club have made it clear to me that they just
can't afford all these tournaments and have agreed that they can do probably 3
to 4 tournament's a year if they are given advanced notice like one year, so
they can save for the event. The entry fees are going sky high along with the
cost of gas and tolls. I hope that the tournament Directors understand that I
am not avoiding their tournaments. I will continue to support as many
tournaments as possible. It's time to think long term. If you are going to hold
a tournament.

Here are the tournaments that I support on an annual basis.

1. Sunshine State Games
2. FJI Florida State Championships
3. USJA Florida State Championships
4. Cherry Blossom Open
5. Rattler Roundup
6. Dragon's Challenge
7. Disney Martial Arts Festival
8. USA Judo Junior Olympics
9. USA Junior Open
10. All National events & Foreign event that students qualify for.

Let's think of the future for Florida Judo. We have great players and they
deserve the best tournaments and plenty of players to play against. Right now
the divisions are small and we as a Florida group need to change that. Our
students just aren't getting the necessary number of matches they need to be on
the National level.

respectfully,
William E Andreas USA Continental Coach
Central Florida Judo & Jujitsu
Vice-President FJI Central Region
