USA Judo National Junior Olympic Championships Day 2 Results

(Kissimmee, Fla.) - Fifteen-year-old Max Schneider (Chicago, Ill. / Tohkon Judo)
won his first IJF-Junior (under-20) USA Judo National Junior Olympic
Championship title in the 60kg division in spectacular fashion, throwing two
former Senior National medalists in the process during the second day of
competition at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort.

Schneider threw Tyler Ferry (Riverview, Fla. / TNT Academy of Judo & Dance)
after a first round bye before upsetting 55kg Senior Nationals silver medalist
Kyle Taketa (Torrance, Calif. / Gardena Judo) in the semifinals.

In his third match of the day, Schneider threw two-time 60kg Senior Nationals
bronze medalist Aaron Kunihiro (Wakefield, Mass. / USA Judo National Team FORCE)
for another ippon (instant win).

Kunihiro dropped down to the loser's pool where he lost to Taketa by a
last-second koka (smallest points). Taketa and Schneider fought again and,
while the match went the full five minutes, Schneider still won the match by a
yuko (quarter-point) to a koka.

Schneider's win moves him up to a #3-ranking in the division and establishes the
former Pan Am Infantile (11-14-year-old) bronze medalist as one of the top
candidates for the 2008 Junior World Team when the Junior World Championship
Trials are held on August 30 in Spokane, Wash.

Danny Satinsky (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Cohen's Judo) also won his first
IJF-Junior title, taking the 81kg gold a year after moving up from 73kg last
year.

Satinsky won his first two matches as well as his semifinal match against former
#1 Antonio Rodriguez (Miami, Fla. / USA Judo National Training Site at North
Miami), but lost in the finals to Tony Sangimino (Glenville, N.Y. / USA Judo
National Training Site at the Jason Morris Judo Center) who also beat Satinsky
last week at the Junior Open.

After dropping down to the loser's bracket, Satinsky threw Jonathan Fernandez
(Miami, Fla. / Baraqua Judo Kai) for ippon off the grip to force another two
matches with Sangimino.

In their first match, the score was tied with two kokas each when Satinsky threw
Sangimino at the buzzer for a waza-ari (half-point). After a 10-minute break,
Satinsky threw Sangimino for ippon – his sixth match win of the day.

Sangimino will retain the #1 seed at the Junior World Trials while Rodriguez and
Satinsky will be seeded second and third in the four-player bracket.

Although only the #2 seed in the 48kg division, Katelyn Bouyssou (Hope, R.I. /
Mayo Quanchi Judo Club) beat top-ranked Angela Creutzberger (Ballston, N.Y. /
USA Judo National Training Site at the Jason Morris Judo Center) for the sixth
time in their last seven meetings.

Bouyssou was up by a koka, two yukos and three penalties that equaled a waza-ari
against Creutzberger in the finals when she threw Creutzberger for another
waza-ari to end the match.

Creutzberger dropped down to the loser's bracket, but lost to Taylor Ibera
(Honolulu, Hawaii / Hawaii Tenri) who, like Bouyssou, is a former top 44kg
player.

Ibera moved up to fight Bouyssou who pinned Ibera for the win.

Hana Carmichael (Wellington, Fla. / Budokan / USA Judo National Team FORCE) and
her South Florida rival Angelica Delgado (Miami, Fla. / USA Judo National
Training Site at North Miami) fought for the second and third time in a week in
the 57kg division.

Carmichael, who beat Senior Nationals silver medalist Delgado at the Junior Open
last week, won her first two matches to advance to the finals against Delgado.
The match went to overtime when Carmichael threw Delgado for ippon.

Delgado defeated Heidy Arias (Hialeah, Fla. / Panther Judo) and moved back up to
fight Carmichael again.

Carmichael started off strong in the match, throwing Delgado for a waza-ari.
Delgado racked up points on two throws for yuko scores and two penalties
committed by Carmichael, but couldn't produce a large enough score to overtake
Carmichael who she will likely face again at the Junior World Trials.

Competition continues on Sunday with the international divisions.

USA Judo National Junior Olympic Championships Day 1 Results

(Kissimmee, Fla.) - Could it be that the eighth time is the charm?

For 16-year-old Kayla Martin (Evansville, Ind.) the USA Judo National Junior
Olympic Championships on Friday marked the eighth straight trip to the finals,
but the first time she won gold.

A silver medalist at every Junior Olympics since 2001 when she was a 30kg
9-year-old, Martin finally earned her first title in the 63kg Juvenile B
(15-16-year-old) division at the tournament which was held at Disney's Coronado
Springs Resort Convention Center at Walt Disney World® Resort in Kissimmee and
featured 455 competitors on the first day of the tournament.

Martin was undefeated with a 4-0 record, including two wins over Shaniqua Brown
(Atlanta, Ga. / Waka Mu Sha) who competed in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials
for Judo in June.

In the Juvenile B 52kg division, 16-year-old Kayla Chappell (Moore, Okla. / USA
Stars) won gold with wins over two of the players she could face at the Junior
World Trials in August.

Chappell threw Jessica Irons (Yorkville, Ill. / Yorkville Judo) in the second
round and threw 2008 Senior Nationals bronze medalist Chrissy Chow (Honolulu,
Hawaii) in the third.

Irons fought through the loser's pool where she ultimately beat Chow for the
first time ever by a penalty. The win moved Irons up to fight Chappell a second
time, but Chappell pinned her to win first place without dropping a match.

It was the lightest of the Juvenile B male divisions that provided some of the
day's most exciting matches as three former Pan Am Infantile and Juvenile
medalists faced off at 51kg.

Everet Desilets (Hope, R.I. / Mayo Qunachi Judo), a 2006 Pan Am Infantile
(13-14-year-old) gold medalist at 36kg, won his second junior title in a week
after taking gold at the Junior U.S. Open last Saturday in Fort Lauderdale.

This time, Desilets threw 2005 Pan Am Infantile medalist Robby Schultheis
(Gurnee, Ill. / Gurnee Judo) in the first round and then won his next two
matches before fighting Joshua Prado (Coral Springs, Fla. / USA Judo National
Training Site at North Miami) - the reigning Pan Am Juvenile (15-16-year-old)
Champion who lost to Desilets at the Open.

Desilets won this week as well and Prado dropped down to the loser's pool where
he was choked by Schultheis who had fought through the pool with four wins
before his victory over Prado.

Schultheis moved up to fight Desilets again, throwing him with a sode (sleeve
throw) for ippon to force a third match between the two in the true double
tournament.

In his sixth match of the day, Desilets threw Schultheis twice for yuko scores
and pinned him for ippon to win the division.

DISCLAIMER:
I in NO WAY am representing FJI (Florida Judo, Inc.) when I do these lists of
upcoming Judo events. It is the Coaches, Players, Officials, etc. responsibility
to verify if the event is sanctioned or not. You can usually tell by asking for
a sanction number and which organization is sanctioning the event. I AM just
passing on the information that is passed on to me.
Thanks.

David, Please send out. Thanks.
_______________________________

Just want to let everyone know that the North/Central Florida Regional workout
has once again been a success. Player's from Summerlin Judo, Judo Ryu Jax,
Orlando Metro Judo and Central Florida Judo had plenty of tachi waza & newaza
practice. A good time was had by all. The cookout afterward was also a big hit
along with the free ice cream offer Friendly's Ice Cream was having after the
workout.

Look out South Region. I think the North & Central Regions are ready for the
Sunshine State Games next weekend. The players here were on top of their game
and everyone left in good spirits.

This will be the last of the monthly North/Central Special workout series until
Sept. Judo Ryu Jax has made a bid on holding the next one at there club in
Jacksonville in Sept. We will give you the plans as the date arrives. Right now
keeping with our plan having these workouts on the first weekend of each month.
Plan on Sept 6th for the next workout. David will let us know if there are any
other plans for that weekend.

respectfully,

William E Andreas
USA Continental Coach
Vice-President of FJI Central Region
