Tulsa Judo Club Founder Passes Away
John Ross, one of the founding coaches of the Tulsa Judo Club, passed away Dec.
23 due to congestive heart failure.
A former Chinese National Champion, Ross also won multiple U.S. Masters titles.
Ross was a former Head Coach of the Florida State University Judo Club in the
1970s and also led the Los Angeles Judo Club in the early 1990s. Ross trained
several prominent judoka including Janet Trussell, Fred Hand and Richard Rose.
A consummate devotee of judo, Ross was especially adept at newaza in his youth.
Most recently, Ross had begun to display early signs of Alzheimer's disease and
was residing at a nursing home in Tulsa, Okla.
