NRA's Past President Strikes Again! -- Urges Senators "not to confirm Judge Sotomayor"

Last week we told you how NRA's Past President Sandy Froman was calling on all NRA members to vigorously oppose the nomination of Judge Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. She did this in response to the "wait and see" approach that the NRA's upper management has taken in regard to the Sotomayor nomination -- an approach that may well allow her to wiggle through and be confirmed.
Yesterday, Sandy Froman struck again. But this time she was joined with another past president of the NRA and several current Board members, as well.
"Judge Sotomayor's record on the Second Amendment causes us grave concern over her treatment of this enumerated right [to keep and bear arms]," the coalition stated.
"As Second Amendment leaders deeply concerned about preserving all fundamental rights for current and future generations of Americans, we strongly oppose this nominee, and urge the Senate not to confirm Judge Sotomayor."
In related news, the NRA sent a letter yesterday to the Senate Judiciary committee expressing "very serious concerns" over the Sotomayor nomination, but said that the leadership "has not announced an official position" out of respect for the confirmation process. The letter indicated the NRA's management would be watching the upcoming hearings very carefully.
One of the concerns about the hearing process, however, is that Sotomayor will act exactly the same way Obama has. You will remember that Obama tried to play himself off as a supporter of gun rights during the presidential campaign, but then once he took office, began showing his true colors.
Obama has nominated far-left gun banners to key positions of power -- including Attorney General Eric Holder, State Department counsel Harold Koh and Judge Sonia Sotomayor.
It's not uncommon to see politicians tout the Bill of Rights when trying to get elected or confirmed, but then act like a modern day Benedict Arnold once they are safely entrenched.
If Judge Sotomayor is anything like the man who nominated her, she will tell Senators what they want to hear during the Senate proceedings, but then stab us in the back once she has secured a lifetime appointment to the bench.
Folks, this is a huge battle. And that's why it's important to have every single gun organization firing all of its political ammunition. This is a battle that we can win. So even though we already asked you to contact the NRA's management last week, it is imperative that they hear from you again.
ACTION: Please urge the NRA's upper management to tell Senators that a vote to confirm Judge Sotomayor is an anti-gun vote. You can use the text message below -- addressed to NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre and NRA Executive Director Chris Cox -- to help direct your comments to the NRA.
I was so excited to see that past NRA President Sandy Froman -- in coalition with several other past and present NRA leaders -- came out in opposition the nomination of Judge Sotomayor.
In a letter dated July 7, the coalition stated that "we strongly oppose this nominee, and urge the Senate not to confirm Judge Sotomayor."
This is Froman's second communication in this regard, as she stepped up to the plate on June 24 with a call to arms for all NRA members to vigorously oppose the Sotomayor nomination.
"Gun owners, and especially the members of the National Rifle Association," Froman said, "must aggressively oppose Judge Sotomayor's confirmation to the Supreme Court."
I couldn't agree more with Mrs. Froman.
I hope that the NRA will officially tell Senators now -- and not wait until after the hearings -- that a vote to confirm Judge Sotomayor is an anti-gun vote. Please let me know what you intend to do.
"[Graphic Video] Why you must ALWAYS be prepared..."
June 30th, 2009
Every once in a while, I come
across a video that just makes me sick to my stomach.
Well, it happened today.
Not because of violence- the video I'm about to show you has no blood or gore.
But because of frustration and anger.
Frustration that this kind of stuff happens, and Anger that this ... creep... (to put it VERY lightly) wasn't brought to justice.
As frustrating as the video is, it serves as an unbelievably important lesson as to WHY we must always be prepared to defend ourselves and our loved ones.
GOA Applauds Call to Action on Judge Sotomayor from NRA's Past President

Gun Owners of America applauds immediate past NRA President Sandy Froman, who stepped up to the plate last week with a call to arms for all NRA members to vigorously oppose the nomination of Judge Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. (See the article below).
GOA has been calling on our members to oppose this nomination since it is clear that Sotomayor is anti-Second Amendment and wants to legislate from the bench.
The official position from current NRA leadership is to take a "wait and see" approach to the Sotomayor nomination which may well allow her to wiggle through and be confirmed.
GOA calls on all pro-gunners across America to urge NRA leadership to join in this critical fight to protect the Constitution -- and especially our gun rights.

NRA Members Must Oppose Sotomayor by Sandy Froman
Wednesday, June 24, 2009
Judge Sonia Sotomayor, President Barack Obama's first nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court, has a narrow view of the Second Amendment that contradicts the Court's landmark decision in District of Columbia v. Heller. A heated debate has started in the U.S. Senate over her opposition to the right to keep and bear arms. This issue, which has decided the fate of presidential elections, could also decide her nomination. Gun owners, and especially the members of the National Rifle Association, must aggressively oppose Judge Sotomayor's confirmation to the Supreme Court.
On June 24, senators began speaking on the floor of the Senate expressing grave concerns over Judge Sotomayor's Second Amendment record. Senator Jeff Sessions R-AL, the Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, pointed out that although her record on the issue is "fairly scant," she has twice stated that the Second Amendment is not a fundamental right. Senator Sessions also noted that in Second Amendment and other constitutional cases, Sotomayor's analysis of important constitutional issues has been lacking suggesting "a troubling tendency to avoid or casually dismiss difficult Constitutional issues of exceptional importance." Sotomayor's view on the Second Amendment clearly reflects an extreme anti-gun philosophy, and some Democrat senators from pro-gun states are justifiably nervous.
Last year, the Supreme Court held in Heller that the Second Amendment guarantees the right of individual Americans to keep and bear firearms. But that ruling was a fiercely-contested, 5-4 split decision. Justice Kennedy joined the four conservatives on the Court to make the majority, with the four liberal justices writing passionate dissents about how the Second Amendment does not apply to private citizens.
Bluntly speaking, the Second Amendment survived by a single vote. Had one justice voted differently, the Second Amendment would have been erased from the Bill of Rights forever. Today in the Supreme Court, the right to bear arms hangs by a single vote.
The next question the Supreme Court will decide is whether the Second Amendment is a "fundamental right" that applies to cities and states, thus preventing them from restricting gun rights. Even the liberal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals held earlier this year in Nordyke v. King that the Second Amendment is a fundamental right, yet Judge Sotomayor disagrees.
When Barack Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, it belied his flowery rhetoric about respecting our constitutional gun rights. Out of almost 200 federal appeals judges in this country, Judge Sotomayor is one of only six to weigh in (after the Heller case) to hold that the Second Amendment only limits federal actions. If your state or city chooses to ban all guns or take away the ones that you already have in your home for hunting and self-defense, Sonia Sotomayor says the Constitution can't help you.
This position becomes all the more radical when it's revealed how she reached this conclusion. Only six judges have denied gun rights against the states. Of these, three did so in a recent Seventh Circuit case, NRA v. Chicago, writing a detailed opinion that the Second Amendment doesn't apply to the states because they thought an old 1800s Supreme Court case tied their hands on the issue, and they commended the case up to the Supreme Court after long and scholarly consideration. Judge Sotomayor and two of her liberal colleagues, however, wrote only a single paragraph on the whole issue when deciding their own New York case, Maloney v. Cuomo. In one paragraph, she said the Second Amendment gives people no rights at all when it comes to state or city laws. She gave no explanation, and made no call for Supreme Court action.
Then we find that this has been a consistent belief for Sotomayor. In a case before her in 2004, she and her colleagues concluded that there is no fundamental right in the Second Amendment but provided no substantive analysis to justify this conclusion. Throughout her career, Judge Sotomayor's record is one of consistent opposition to the private ownership of firearms.
America has almost 90 million gun owners who value their rights. And of these, no one does more to protect the Second Amendment than the four million members of the National Rifle Association.
I served as an officer of the NRA for nine years, including a two-year term as president. I saw NRA members turn the tide on Election Day 2000 to defeat Al Gore. We fought again to help defeat John Kerry in 2004. We can do the same with Sonia Sotomayor, if we call our U.S. Senators and tell them to vote against this anti-gun judge. No fewer than fourteen Democrat senators have solid records on the Second Amendment, and we must urge them to oppose this nominee.
Next year, the Supreme Court is likely to take up NRA v. Chicago, which will decide whether the Second Amendment applies to states and cities like it does the federal government. This case is as important as Heller, and will massively impact gun rights forever.
We already know where Judge Sotomayor stands. It's time to tell the Senate, "Vote No! on Sonia Sotomayor."

From: Dudley Brown - National Association for Gun Rights <director@...> Subject: Uh oh, here comes Koh. Date: Thursday, June 25, 2009, 2:56 PM
June 25, 2009
Who is Harold Koh?
With 65 votes yesterday -- including those of 8 Republicans -- Harry Reid successfully ushered yet another one of Obama's radical anti-gun zealot nominees closer to a final Senate confirmation vote.
I'm talking about Harold Koh, former Clinton flunky and current nominee to one of the State Department's highest positions -- the senior legal advisor to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
So just who is this guy? And why should you care?
In his infamous essay/lecture "A World Drowning in Guns," Koh summarily declared: "There are more guns than any sane civilization would ever need."1
To solve "this huge and growing global problem" of guns, Koh proposes an assortment of measures the United States must take to "establish a global system of effective controls on small arms and light weapons"
-- a "global regulatory process" or even "global regime" to combat what he calls "grotesque gun oversupplies."2
Relying on faulty logic, Koh smugly proclaims: "The very promiscuous presence of guns chokes civil society. Guns kill civil society. The pervasive presence of guns perpetuates a culture of societal violence."3
The various strategies he proposes to curtail the "gun problem" may interest you.
First, he says, our government needs to create a "law-declaring forum that can operate at a global level to declare an international norm against the illicit sale, transfer, and use of small arms and light weapons."4
The absence of a definition for
"illicit" notwithstanding, what could be next?
Oh, you guessed it: We need to "bring home" those "norms" and "internalize" them into the "domestic statutes, executive practice, and judicial systems of those participating nations" -- that is, subvert the national sovereignty of each country that came together to globalize gun control, and put international law in its place.5
(It just keeps getting better, doesn't it?)
After asserting the necessity for a "marking and tracing regime" to track every gun made and sold in America, Koh then beckons the state to "establish a national firearms control system and a register of manufacturers, traders, importers, and exporters."6
(Gee, where have we heard that before?)
But that's not all. Listen to
this:
One particularly intriguing idea is the idea of promoting production of smart or 'perishable ammunition,' e.g., AK-47 bullets that would degrade and become unusable over time. Ironically, by focusing exclusively on controlling the delivery mechanism -- the guns themselves -- the small arms activists [read: gun grabbers] may have overlooked a surer longer-term solution to the international firearms problem.7
The guy sounds like he's ordering a pizza, describing a sunset, or expounding on a piece of music...
But he's talking about seizing your rights! And that "intrigues" him!
Just to remind you, this is the guy whom Obama wants to advise Hillary Clinton in her role as Secretary of State. Can you imagine a more heinous partnership in crime?

Vote Coming to Confirm Anti-gun Radical -- "Guns Kill Civil Society," says State Department Nominee
Gun Owners of America E-Mail Alert 8001 Forbes Place, Suite 102, Springfield, VA 22151 Phone: 703-321-8585 / FAX: 703-321-8408 http://www.gunowners.org

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has scheduled a Wednesday vote on a State Department nominee who supports gun control on a global scale.
While advocates of the Second Amendment have come to expect that appointees of President Barack Obama would be hostile to the rights of gun owners, the president's nominee for legal advisor to the State Department reaches a whole new level of anti-gun extremism.
Harold Hongju Koh, who served at the State Department under the Clinton administration, is a self-described "trans-nationalist" who believes that our laws -- and our Constitution -- should be brought into conformity with international agreements.
"If you want to be in the global environment, you have to play by the global rules," Koh told a Cleveland audience.
Koh's positions treat our constitutional law as if it were a mere local ordinance on the greater world stage. This is of particular concern to gun owners at a time when the U.S. Congress is under pressure from President Obama to ratify an international gun control treaty with countries in the western hemisphere. That treaty, known by its Spanish acronym CIFTA, would likely serve as a forerunner to a more extensive United Nations initiative, the "Program of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in all its Aspects."
The Bush administration, under the leadership of UN Ambassador John Bolton, rejected the small arms treaty. Bolton plainly told the world that the United States will not accept a gun control document that violates our Constitutional right to bear arms. Harold Koh commented that Bolton was being "needlessly provocative."
In a paper entitled "A world drowning in guns," Koh maintains that a civil society cannot exist with broad gun ownership: "Guns kill civil society," he said.
Koh is eager to assume his post at the State Department, having lamented that there is only so much that can be done from the outside to push gun control treaties, and that ultimately we need people like him in positions of power. The chief lawyer for the State Department is just the position someone like him needs to put his agenda into play.
While Koh's nomination has been delayed largely because of Second Amendment concerns, Sen. Reid plans to force a vote this week.
It is imperative that gun owners contact their Senators and insist that they vote AGAINST this anti-gun extremist.
ACTION: Please contact your Senators immediately and urge them to oppose Harold Hongju Koh's nomination to the State Department. You can use the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center at http://gunowners.org/activism.htm to send your Senators the pre-written message below.
----- Pre-written letter -----
Dear Senator:
The Senate is expected to soon vote on a State Department nominee who supports gun control on a global scale.
Harold Hongju Koh, who served at the State Department under the Clinton administration, is a self-described "trans-nationalist" who believes that our laws -- and our Constitution -- should be brought into conformity with international agreements.
According to Koh, "If you want to be in the global environment, you have to play by the global rules." Well, I don't support global rules that contradict our own Constitution.
Koh supports international gun control treaties such as the United Nations initiative entitles the "Program of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in all its Aspects."
When former UN Ambassador John Bolton told the world that the United States will not accept a gun control document that violates our Constitutional right to bear arms, Harold Koh commented that Bolton was being "needlessly provocative."
And in a 2003 Fordham Law Review article entitled "A world drowning in guns," Koh maintains that a civil society cannot exist with broad gun ownership: "Guns kill civil society," he wrote.
I urge you to reject this trans-nationalist, anti-gun extremist who would place foreign laws and international agreements on equal footing (at minimum) with the U.S. Constitution.
Sincerely,

This is the primary source of the current anti-gun/disarmament agenda - not only in the U.S. but world-wide. The "Freedom from War" plan is but one plank of a larger global-government plot. Included are other schemes by which to unite the world under a single government - "scare-tactic" scenarios such as environmental catastrophe (the phony "global warming" program being the most recent) and invasion/contact by "aliens from outer space" (I own a copy of the original book describing the think-tank sessions that took place during the 1960s wherein these concepts were created, discussed, and agreed upon as elements to be implemented in master plan for global control).
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

Globalist Plan to Disarm America - read and understand .. all the proof is here
Globalist Plan to Disarm America:
PL87-297 Arms Control and Disarmament Act / State Department Publication No.7277
If someday your children or grandchildren ask you how Liberty died in America and what happened that caused the demise of the Nation, read this and you will be able to answer them.
If they ask you why the Citizens have been disarmed, you'll know. If you want to know why, go to your local library, no matter where you live in the United States. Tell the librarian to show you where the 'United States Code books' are shelved. There are 25 books in the set. They are reddish-brown in color. They are printed by the Government Printing Office in Washington, DC. These hard-covered books are printed every 8-10 years. They are updated with annual soft-back supplements each year until a new hard cover issue comes out. At the present time, the 1988 hardbacks are on library shelves.
OPEN VOLUME 9. The page numbers are in the center near the middle binding. The section numbers are along the edges.
TURN TO PAGE 651. Here you will find Public Law 87-297 which calls for the United States to eliminate its armed forces. This law was signed for the United States in 1961. John F. Kennedy signed it and every president since has worked to enact its provisions. The government knows you will not approve which is why they want to take away your firearms. (This is Title 22 USC section 2551)
TURN TO PAGE 652. Here you will find the definition of what the government means by "disarmament." The disarmament calls for the elimination of our armed forces. It also calls for the elimination of weapons of all kinds.
TURN TO PAGE 654. Here you will find it stated as item (a) "control, reduction and elimination of armed forces..." and as Item (d)" ...Elimination of armed forces...." What you need to know is that your armed forces are being eliminated and relinquished from national control which, in turn, wipes out our sovereignty as a nation. In two stages, we will have no more army, no more navy, no more air force. In the third stage, we shall have a "zero" military. Before Stage I closes, all citizen owned guns are to be banned.
Public Law 87-297 is further explained in the State Department Document called Publication 7277. Your librarian can also furnish you a copy. Also ask the librarian to get you a copy of "The Blue Print for the Peace Race." It is a 35-page booklet printed by the United States Arms Control and Disarmament Agency as Publication No. 4 - General Series 3 - Released May of 1962. Publication No. 4 is the unabridged version of State Department Document 7277.
Both of these booklets explain how our military is to be reduced to 2.1 million men. China and the Soviets are to be reduced to that level also. At this point, we are at Stage I at which time we are to transfer (on a permanent basis) one-half of our armed forces to be merged with the Russian and Chinese armies. In Stage II, the remaining one-half of our armed forces is then turned over to this same Security Council of the United Nations. The person in charge of the merged armies must, by agreement, always be a Russian. The world's smaller nations turn 100% of their armies over to the same under-secretary of the Security, Council in Stage II. President George Bush and Admiral Wm. J. Crowe [have referred] to this process as being "in transition."
TURN TO PAGE 655. On this page in Volume 9 of the United States Code, read "Policy Formation." The directives there (written in 1963 to pacify objectors) are supposedly to restrain anyone from disarmament, reducing or limiting our armaments, or taking guns away from the people unless it is pursuant to the treaty-making power of the president, or if it is authorized by further legislation by the Congress. (This is title 22, Section 2573.)
Every couple of years the House of Representatives votes to appropriate funds for this on-going program. Since P.L. 87-297 was first passed into law in 961, there have been 18 updates to it - all bad - with no deletions of these issues I lay before you now. The Congress knows that the plan includes the policing of the United States by foreign troops. (The world army they are forming in Europe.) The Congress is allowing our military bases to be closed down, except for those that will be used by the world army. You will find that plan in Publication 7277 and in "The Blueprint for the Peace Race."
If the president and Congress can promote a "Constitutional Convention" you will find yourself with two new constitutions (communist in structure) which in one states in Article VIII, Section 12: "No person shall bear arms or possess lethal weapons except the police and members of the armed forces...."
The Congress has praised these documents and is on record in Senate hearings seeking ways to install these constitutions. Ask your librarian for "Revision of the United Nations Charter - Hearings Before a Subcommittee (Foreign Relations) Feb. 2-20, 1950 U.S.Government Printing Office." Nothing has changed since. They are still viable. The ultimate goal to be reached in Stage III of the disarmament process is to "proceed to a point where no state [nation] would have the military power to challenge the progressively strengthened U.N. Peace Force...."
Anyone who doubts the truthfulness of what has been presented here is free to go to the library and go through the steps which have been outlined above. While you are at it, look up Public Law 101-216.
State Department Publication 7277 is available on the web at:
As a presidential candidate, Barack Obama deliberately and repeatedly LIED to America's 90 million gun owners across the country, when
he insisted that he would NOT try to take away anyone's firearms.
Now, Obama's Attorney General Eric Holder is saying that the president will seek to reinstate the ban on semi-automatic
firearms -- which means he KNEW he was lying to the nation, because his own website touted his plan to revive the gun ban and make it
permanent!
We warned America that Obama's "support" for the Second Amendment was empty rhetoric -- and now Holder's disclosure has confirmed it. Obama
was lying, and now gun rights may be dying.
Several times on the campaign trail, Obama told voters, "I'm not going to take your guns away." He said it at rallies in Duryea, Pennsylvania, and in
Boise, Idaho. He also told a news conference that "Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear... I think people can take me at my word."
One thing is now obvious: We shouldn't take Obama's word, even if he says it rains a lot in Seattle. Apparently, law-abiding gun owners have nothing
to fear... UNLESS they own sport-utility rifles, semiautomatic shotguns, handguns and any other firearm that Obama and his
anti-gun Attorney General don't like.
Thanks to Eric Holder -- who has been far more honest than his boss about his anti-gun philosophy -- it is now clear that the new president
doesn't support the Second Amendment at all. American gun owners should remind Democrats in Congress that the Second Amendment means
what it says, especially when the president doesn't.
It doesn't stop there! Senators Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Jack Reed (D-RI) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) have joined Paul Helmke,
President of the "Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence," along with victims and family members of the Virginia Tech tragedy, to introduce
legislation to ELIMINATE the private transfers of firearms and close the nation's "gun show loophole."
You read that right. Did you know that YOU are considered "irrational" if you support private gun sales? Sen. Lautenberg says
so!
"There is no rational reason to oppose closing the loophole. The reason it's still not closed is simple: the continuing power of the special
interest gun lobby in Washington."
BUT, not only are YOU irrational for supporting private gun sales -- they also must think you're an IDIOT because, with NO supporting evidence,
Lautenberg fell back to the disproven old "90% Obama Mexican Gun" Lie:
"Thirty percent of the guns that go to Mexico are bought at gun shows. We don't know whether they're bought from unlicensed dealers, but logic
would say let's have some idea who it is that bought those guns and what their intentions might be."
Independence Institute researcher David Kopel has written about the so-called "gun show loophole," concluding that it is a
myth:
"Despite what some media commentators have claimed, if a dealer sells a gun from a storefront, from a room in his home or from a table at a gun
show, the rules are exactly the same: he can get authorization from the FBI for the sale only after the FBI runs its 'instant' background
check."
Even the Bureau of Justice Statistics report entitled "Firearms Use by Offenders" found that less than one percent -- 0.7%, to be
exact -- of guns used in crimes originated at gun shows.
None of this matters to the Gun Grabbers -- New York's Democrat Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand have now
proposed that computerized background checks be retained, creating a de facto gun registration system; and Lautenberg's bill proposes
private transactions be added to this registration system!
This is an OUTRAGEOUS violation of the Second Amendment!
Why are Obama, Lautenberg, and other liberals in Congress doing this?
Motives for eliminating gun shows are twofold:
First, gun shows are a powerful tool in defeating gun control legislation. Grassroots activism burns like a brushfire when Second
Amendment supporters gather in one place!
Second, If you can eradicate the gun show, you are a HUGE step closer to eradicating the pro-gun culture altogether.
Lautenberg and the Gun Grabbers in the Senate are also lying about the Virginia Tech gunman who had a background check at a legal gun store,
just so they can try to justify themselves. There were abundant warning signs that he posed a serious threat to the campus. Yet he was running loose
because the gun check system failed.
It's obvious that the Anti-Gun Coalitions are trying to use tragic events to destroy gun shows and the right of all Americans to keep
and bear arms to protect themselves under the law. They are attacking and hiding behind an "Anti-Terrorist" Agenda while getting political
and financial support from:
George Soros, a Hungarian-born billionaire who is bank rolling efforts with his checkbook and spending more that $100
million to destroy the Constitution.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (CA), who admitted that "guns would be banned and confiscated" if she could have her
way.
The United Nations, which actively pushes globalism seeking to disarm all Americans.
We must Stop the Anti-Gun Coalition and get ready for the biggest gun control fight of the year from coast to coast. We can not do that without your
support.
All that seems to be on the minds of the Anti-Gun Senators and at the offices of gun control extremists is figuring out how to exploit tragedy to
erode and eventually destroy the right, and the means, of self-defense.
Like all other threats against our freedoms, we must rise and defeat these attempts by Obama and his followers -- we must slap these bills down
hard.
Sens. Dick Durbin (D-IL), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Charles Schumer (D-NY), John Kerry (D-MA), Ted Kennedy (D-MA), Carl Levin (D-MI), Ben Cardin
(D-MD) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) cosponsor the current Senate legislation. And Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is working to make
sure that all of the anti-gun legislation passes over on the House of Representatives side.
In order to stop Schumer, Kerry and Kennedy and their fellow gun-grabbers, we need to let Congress know with tens of thousands of
faxes telling them to leave guns alone.
We need Americans like YOU who understand what our Founding Fathers envisioned for our nation... and who are willing to fight to defend our

Ted Kennedy Bill Could Send Your Gun Info Into A Massive Federal Database -- And you could be forced to spend $13,000 of your own money toward this effort!
Gun Owners of America E-Mail Alert 8001 Forbes Place, Suite 102, Springfield, VA 22151 Phone: 703-321-8585 / FAX: 703-321-8408 http://www.gunowners.org
Tuesday, June 16, 2009
At long last, Teddy Kennedy has partially revealed the health care system he wants to foist on the whole country -- and it isn't pretty.
It won't be pretty for your pocket book... OR FOR YOUR GUN RIGHTS!
But first, let us explain what TeddyCare is all about.
At the center of the plan is what's called a "universal mandate." What this means is that you -- and virtually everyone in the country -- will have to buy as much health insurance as the government demands, and that insurance plan will actually have to be approved by the government.
If you work for a small business, the business will buy the insurance on your behalf. But you may be saddled with an enormous part of the cost. And, if the employer's contribution is too large, you will be fired.
If you fail to buy TeddyCare, as the government orders you to do, the IRS will fine you, garnish your wages, put a lien on your house, and, ultimately, put you in prison.
How much will you have to spend on your TeddyCare insurance? Teddy's not saying.
The portion of your paycheck that will have to be forked over to Teddy's latest social experiment will be revealed ONLY AFTER THE MASSIVE HEALTH CARE BILL IS SIGNED INTO LAW.
This should set off alarm bells in your brain, because, for instance, the average family policy is currently $12,700. "So," proclaims Teddy, "everyone's going to get a subsidy to pay for this." There's going to be a "chicken in every pot," and no one's going to have to pay for it.
Yeah, right. If you're a welfare mother, the government will pay for your TeddyCare, and it would pay for it -- the first time -- by taxing employer-provided health benefits of working Americans. But if you a "working Joe" your Kennedy-subsidy will be a microscopic fraction of the cost of your mandated TeddyCare insurance policy.
Okay, all of this sounds ominous... but why is this a gun issue?
The answer is that TeddyCare will allow radical left Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to determine all of the fine print in every TeddyCare policy -- which you will be required to buy under penalty of imprisonment.
Currently, as a result of the stimulus bill and a whole lot of other factors, the government is rapidly moving in the direction of computerizing all of your most confidential medical records and putting them into a federal database.
So remember when your son was asked by his pediatrician about your gun collection? That would be in the federal database.
Or remember when your wife told her gynecologist that she had regularly smoked marijuana ten years ago -- thereby potentially barring both her and you from ever owning a gun again? That would be in the database.
Or if a military veteran complains to his psychiatrist that he's had emotional stress since coming back to the States, that would be in the database.
Or remember when gramps was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, thereby making him a "mental defective" who would have to relinquish his life-long gun collection? That's in there too.
And, while we are dangerously close to allowing BATFE to troll all of that information, TeddyCare would allow Sebelius to put EVERYONE'S private data in a database with a stroke of a pen.
When we say "everyone," we don't mean quite everyone.
Teddy has conveniently excluded Washington bureaucrats from his TeddyCare mandate.
Also, Teddy and his friends in the media don't want you to hear about the details until after the bill is passed. That's why they're trying to slam it through within the next month and a half before anyone's had a chance to read or debate it.
In fact, the TeddyCare proposal is currently circulating around Capitol Hill without even a bill number.
ACTION: Urge your two U.S. Senators to oppose Sen. Ted Kennedy's mandate that will result in the registration of all your gun information.
Please forward this email to your friends and family and urge them to contact their Senators as well.
You can go to the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center at http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm to send your Senators the pre-written e-mail message below.
----- Pre-written letter -----
Dear Senator:
At long last, Teddy Kennedy has partially revealed the health care system he wants to foist on the whole country -- and it isn't pretty.
At the center of the TeddyCare plan is what's called a "universal mandate." What this means is that I -- and virtually everyone in the country -- will have to buy as much health insurance as the government demands, and that insurance plan will actually have to be approved by the government.
But this is not only an issue of individual freedom; it is a gun issue.
This is because Teddycare will allow radical left Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to determine all of the fine print in every Teddycare policy -- which Americans will be required to buy under penalty of imprisonment.
Currently, as a result of the stimulus bill and a whole lot of other factors, the government is rapidly moving in the direction of computerizing all of our most confidential medical records and putting them into a federal database.
So if a kid is asked by his pediatrician about his dad's gun collection, that would be in the federal database.
Or if a wife told her gynecologist that she had regularly smoked marijuana ten years ago -- thereby potentially barring both her and her husband from ever owning a gun again, that would be in the database.
Or if a military veteran complains to his psychiatrist that he's had emotional stress since coming back from Iraq or Afghanistan, that would be in the database.
Or when gramps was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, thereby making him a "mental defective" who would have to relinquish his life-long gun collection, that would be in there too.
And, while we are dangerously close to allowing BATFE to troll all of that information, TeddyCare would allow Sebelius to put EVERYONE'S private data in a database with a stroke of a pen.
You cannot imagine how angry I, my family, and my neighbors are about this most recent fraud scheme to cheat me out of perhaps over $10,000 for TeddyCare -- and to violate my privacy in the process.
I insist that you oppose TeddyCare -- immediately and loudly. Please do not try to shower me with propaganda about how a mandate on how I spend my own money is somehow good for me.
Sincerely,

You mean like criminals making use of it to ensure that they don't get shot,
but can still shoot the police? Oh, then what do you do if the police officer
IS the criminal (I know, that NEVER happens)?
If the criminal was near the a police officer, then you might not be able to

If they had some brains, they might decide that this is not a good idea :-).

NYPD looking at futuristic weapons technology
By COLLEEN LONG, Associated Press Writer Colleen Long, Associated Press
Writer
NEW YORK – The New York Police Department is looking into futuristic
technology that would allow officers' guns to recognize one another. It is
aimed at avoiding the type of shooting that killed a plainclothes police
officer in Harlem last week.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly has compiled a list of department
initiatives that would help avoid officer confrontations.
The NYPD is in talks with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory on the
possibility of adapting such technology. Officers' guns would be implanted
with a chip that would send a signal to another gun.
The research is preliminary.
Officer Omar Edwards was chasing a burglary suspect on May 28 with his
weapon drawn when other officers in plainclothes came upon the scene.
Edwards was fatally shot by an officer.

This gives you the right to make your opinion heard.. It takes 5 seconds - It is still a live link.
Our new Attorney General has already said firearm restriction is one of his major issues. This takes literally 2 clicks to complete. Please vote on this gun issue question with USA Today. It will only take a few seconds of your time. Then pass the link on to all the pro gun folks you know. Hopefully these results will be published later this month.. The next few y ears will become critical for gun owners.
First - vote on this one. Second - send it to other folks and ask them to VOTE! - then we will see if the results get published. Vote in the USA Today poll - click on the link below. The Question is: Does the Second Amendment give individuals the right to bear arms? Vote here: Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is a cool video and certainly a lucky guy but that target is
nowhere near 1,000 yards away.
According to the measured time delay of .37 seconds between the shot
and the 'ding' on the target, the target was approximately 100 yards
away.
The time delay of .37 seconds actually represents the summation of two
times: 1) bullet to target and 2) sound from target back to the camera.
Modifying D=RT to suit our needs here, we get:
D = distance
R1 = bullet velocity = approximately 2800 ft/sec (no accounting for
deceleration due to air drag)
T1 = 40.2% of total time (1125 / 2800) = .149 sec
R2 = speed of sound = approximately 1125 ft/sec
T2 = 59.8% of total time (.37 - (1125 / 2800)) = .221 sec
2D = (R1*T1) + (R2*T2)
substituting our variables:
2D = (2800*.149) + (1125 * .221)
(solving for D) = 333 ft. = 111 yds.
SInce there's no accounting for the deceleration of the bullet due to
air drag, the target is going to be a little bit closer yet.
If the bullet can go any direction when it impacts the target, what at
the chances of it hitting the person who fired it? (an exercise for
the reader)
If the target were at 1,000 yards, the bullet would take approximately
1.59 seconds (including drag coefficient) to get to the target and the
sound would take 2.67 seconds to return. Watching the video then, the
"bang" to target "ding" would take approximately 4.26 seconds.

Hard targets are bad news - this fella is lucky to be alive. A .50 richochet (sp?) even at this range still packs a wallop.
IT JUST TOOK A BAD HOP OFF THE DIRT!
Turn the sound up………you can hear the bullet head back. Watch in full screen to see it better. This is a very, very lucky sportsman. The guy is shooting a 50CAL. Watch the dust when he fires.. The target, a steel plate, was 1000 yards away. You can hear the ping of the hit, and then the bullet comes back and hits his earmuffs on his head. The footage is amazing. You can hear the bullet as it tumbles through the air on its course back toward the shooter.. He's lucky it hit the dirt first.. He is okay, and obviously very lucky. The bullet grazed his temple. What a difference a half an inch makes!
Victory at Last: National Park Service Gun Ban Repealed!
Gun Owners of America E-Mail Alert 8001 Forbes Place, Suite 102, Springfield, VA 22151 Phone: 703-321-8585 / FAX: 703-321-8408 http://www.gunowners.org
"Gun Owners of America was the most consistent and loudest voice on Capitol Hill in support of the effort to repeal the National Park Service gun ban." -- Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK)
Wednesday, May 20, 2009
Good news!
The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill today that included an amendment to repeal the gun ban on National Park Service (NPS) land and wildlife refuges.
The amendment, sponsored by Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) and attached to a credit card industry reform bill, passed the House overwhelmingly by a vote of 279-147.
For decades, law-abiding citizens have been prohibited from exercising their Second Amendment rights on NPS land and wildlife refuges, even if the state in which the land is located allows carrying firearms.
With some limited exceptions for hunting, the only way to legally possess a firearm anywhere in a national park is by having it unloaded and inaccessible, such as locked up in an automobile trunk. A Bush administration regulation partially reversed the ban, but that action was singlehandedly negated recently by an activist judge in Washington, D.C. The Department of Interior decided not to appeal that ruling.
Senator Coburn believes, like you do, that Americans should not be forced to sacrifice their Second Amendment rights when entering NPS land and wildlife refuges.
GOA worked with Coburn on an amendment that simply allows for state and local laws -- instead of unelected bureaucrats and anti gun activist judges -- to govern firearm possession on these lands.
The anti-gun leadership in both the House and Senate went berserk and fought to keep the Coburn amendment from being attached to the underlying bill. Sparks were flying on the floor of the House of Representatives today.
Anti-gun Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) whined that a "very good" credit card bill had been "hijacked" by the Coburn amendment. To this, Rep. Rob Bishop (R-UT) pointed out that gun control is the policy of tyrants, as evidenced by the British attempt to confiscate firearms at Lexington and Concord in 1775.
Congressional leaders and entrenched bureaucrats have fought GOA over the NPS gun ban for the past eight years.
But your activism has finally broken through. The late Senator Everett Dirksen said, "When I feel the heat, I see the light!" Well, you have applied a lot of heat. Members of Congress know that they oppose your Second Amendment rights at their own peril.
As it stands today, both houses of Congress have now passed the Coburn amendment -- and President Obama is expected to sign the provision into law (only because it is part of a larger credit card bill that he really wants).
So, congratulate yourself for winning this long, hard battle. GOA was the leading, and often only, national gun group involved in this fight. You involvement was absolutely vital to achieving this win.
Of course, many more battles lie ahead. President Obama continues to push for the Senate to ratify massive international gun control treaties. There is a battle over a Supreme Court nominee coming up. Anti-gun zealots in Congress are aggressively pushing to renew the Clinton gun ban and close down gun shows.
And as the health care debate picks up steam in the coming weeks and months, GOA is battling efforts to create a computerized national healthcare database. Such a database can be used to deny people their Second Amendment rights in the same way that so many veterans have lost their gun rights based only on the diagnoses of a doctor for things like combat-related stress.
GOA will be calling for action on these and other Second Amendment issues as they move through Congress.
In the meantime, have a safe Memorial Day as we remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that America would remain "Land of the Free."
****************************
What's Your Current GOA Status?
Obviously, we now face years of invigorated attacks on our gun rights. Shutting down gun shows, prohibitions on specific calibers, another semi-auto ban, and the anti-gun extremists' Holy Grail of mandatory federal licensing and registration of all gun owners -- these are just some of the horrors that we already know we'll have to defeat head-on. Meanwhile, we'll take every opportunity to go on offense and advance the Second Amendment.
It can't be done without every single voice being counted. That's why we are asking you to consider making the commitment of becoming a Gun Owners of America Life Member. By doing so, you put the politicians on notice that neither you nor GOA is going away -- that no matter who's in the White House, there is always going to be a solid wall of resistance.
Now is a perfect time to become a Life Member. And if you aren't a GOA member at all, isn't it time you became one?

GOA Helps Push Pro-gun Coburn Amendment over the Hump -- and Montana becomes a model state
Gun Owners of America E-Mail Alert 8001 Forbes Place, Suite 102, Springfield, VA 22151 Phone: 703-321-8585 / FAX: 703-321-8408 http://www.gunowners.org

Gun owners won a long-fought victory in the U.S. Senate yesterday with the passage of an amendment to repeal the gun ban on National Park Service (NPS) and National Wildlife Refuge System land.
GOA was the driving force behind this amendment and lobbied Senators hard prior to the vote to get the provision passed. The amendment, offered by Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK), passed overwhelmingly by a vote of 67-29. People can see how their Senators voted on the Coburn amendment by going to: http://capwiz.com/gunowners/issues/votes/?votenum=188&chamber=S&congress=1111
NPS and Wildlife Refuge land is treated differently with regard to gun rights than other federally controlled land. For instance, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) allows state and local laws to govern firearms possession. However, carrying firearms on NPS land and Wildlife Refuges is prohibited, even if the state in which the land is located allows carrying firearms.
The only way to legally possess a firearm anywhere on National Park land is by having it unloaded and inaccessible, such as locked up in your trunk.
This has created a patchwork of conflicting regulations. For instance, a Virginia resident who is licensed to carry a concealed firearm can legally carry on the Commonwealth's roadways, but it is illegal to carry on the George Washington Memorial Parkway, a major thoroughfare in Virginia under the jurisdiction of the NPS.
In the waning days of his administration, President Bush partially reversed the ban, but even that half-way measure has been single-handedly negated by an activist judge in Washington, D.C. The Department of Interior has decided not to appeal that ruling, thus leaving the gun ban in place.
The Coburn amendment will treat NPS land and Wildlife Refuges in the same manner as BLM land. The amendment will in no way change or override state, local or federal law, but will simply allow those laws -- enacted by legislation, not bureaucrats or judges -- to govern firearms possession.
The amendment was attached to a bill, H.R. 627, regulating the credit card industry. The House passed its own version of the bill on April 30 by a vote of 357-70, and the Senate is expected to follow suit this week.
The House bill does not contain the Coburn language, and is substantially different in other respects. Therefore, a House and Senate conference committee will have to iron out the differences between the two bills. President Obama said he wants to sign a bill before Memorial Day.
GOA will alert you once the conferees are appointed, as we need to put the heat on the conference committee to keep the Coburn amendment in the final bill.
Please stay tuned for further updates.
States Beginning to Resist Federal Intrusion
The epicenter of the earthquake you may have felt last month originated in Helena, Montana.
That's where Governor Brian Schweitzer signed the Montana Firearms Freedom Act into law. This act basically states that if you build a gun in Montana -- and the firearm stays in the state -- it is exempt from federal gun control laws.
Several states have passed so-called Tenth Amendment resolutions in recent years to protest the usurpation of power that the federal government has engaged in. However, most of these resolutions have no teeth.
What Montana has done is to actually interpose itself so as to protect its citizens from the unconstitutional mandates that have been passed at the federal level.
Gary Marbut, a former GOA Board Member and the current head of the Montana Shooting Sports Association, is the intellectual author of this legislation. He says that almost a dozen states are considering -- or have already introduced -- similar bills. Marbut is expected to talk about the new law on Fox's Glenn Beck show this Friday (5 pm EST).
This effort is not the first act of interposition on Montana's part. This is the state that has effectively, by law, decreed that every law-abiding citizen within the state is authorized to carry a firearm within a school zone; the state that nullified the federal requirements of REAL-ID (read: National ID card); and which had even threatened to leave the union if the Supreme Court ruled against Second Amendment rights in the Heller case.
Thank God for the state of Montana.
