I was reading an article entitled `Rise in Justified Shootings Continues" by Robert Crowe, writer for the Express News in San Antonio, Texas (01/08/2009).  In this article Mr. Crowe reported that justified homicides in 2008 have more than doubled from 7 to 17 over the previous year where the shooter acted within the law.  They were justified under state law called the "castle doctrine," which allows property owners to use deadly force to protect homes.

Mr. Crowe stated that George R. Franks Jr., a criminal justice professor at Stephen F. Austin State University, said the publicity of high-profile justified shootings has inspired others to take up arms. "As people see these things happening to folks they identify with, they decide it's time for them to arm themselves."

Mr. Crowe also reported that police related justified shootings have risen in San Antonio.

In my opinion Mr. Crowe wrote the article taking an anti gun position but it is good to see that Texas citizens are gaining the ability to protect themselves from intruders within their homes and be justified in doing so.
