Hi Mike,
I am interested in navigating for you on some winter events. I live in Niagara Falls. I used to codrive in ProRallies for a guy from Rochester, and I lived in Geneseo for 4 years in my early teens, so I have a bit of a connection with the FLR.
I have driven on 2 or 3 of these winter series rallies. I am a former ProRally driver (in the 70s) and I currently codrive in the Rally America stuff. Though I've navigated on a few TSD rallies bad in the old days, I am pretty rusty at time keeping. I still have a Curta and Stimson's rally tables though, and given the tulip instructions easing the task of staying on course, I might be able to get the hang of timekeeping again.
Let me know if you're interested in talking. My cell number is 716-863-7400.
Best regards,
Don

Hello moderator[s] if this message is OK to forward to the list please do so. If it is not deemed suitable for the announcement only list, I completely understand.

After 30 years of modifying cars and racing them in various types of venues, I find it ironic that I have never been a member of the SCCA. Why? Probably because I'm not big on autocross or road racing, and was plenty happy participating in events that the SCCA had no part in like: drag racing, ice racing, and dirt oval racing.
I've always been interested in stage rally but was not willing to spend the money it took to compete in that arena. So I've worked as a volunteer at Rally New York events since 2001. I've tried rallycross a few times but found the speeds too low and turns too tight. You see, I'm spoiled from A.M.E.C. ice racing where I can get out of second gear and really open it up.
Local road rallies are far and few between around for me here in the Capital District. But then in 2007 I got up enough gumption to try the all night Vermont Winter Challenge. Wow! I knew right away that
winter tsd's were for me! But that great event is just once a year. I craved more.
So this year I reached out even further from my area and trekked across the state to my first Finger Lakes winter tsd. As described in this month's "Top End" newsletter, I was very impressed with the FLR winter series.
So as a result of running three SCCA road rallies this winter [Mo-Hud, FLR, and NER] and looking at all of my temporary membership receipts, it became obvious that it was finally time to become a member of SCCA.
Sometimes we just don't get something done unless it is made really easy for us. That's where the FLR came in yesterday. I was sent a surprise complimentary issue of "Top End" and in it was a membership form. I was out of excuses. It also helped me decide which region to sign up with. Normally a member would sign up with their local region right? Well I didn't do that. What attracted me to the FLR is their outstanding rally
program. Yes, it is an eight hour round trip for me to participate in FLR events, but to me really good events are worth it.
So the check's in the mail as of this morning and I look forward to meeting more of you FLR members at future events.

P.S. I am now in need of a navigator for the FLR series. Marnie navigated for me back on Feb 7th, [and was excellent] but she prefers to drive and will not be available to navigate in the future. If anyone else out there is interested please contact me at mkamm [at] juno [dot] com. Even if you can only make one event here and there. I hope to be participating in the upcoming May 24th Livonia, Avon & Lakeville social rally.
