It would be nice if it was UI, but hopefully in a few years. He's
currently at KU with Self. This is a step in the right direction to
coming to the UI.

SALINA – Cleotis Brown, a former University of Illinois basketball player has signed with the Kansas Cagerz for the 2004 season. Brown, a 6'5" guard from Pittsview, Alabama has played for the Burger King Limerick of the Irish Super League since leaving Illinois in 2000. In 2003, he averaged 23.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game before finishing the season with the Maccabi Ironi Ramat Gan of the Israel Premier League where he scored 15 points per game and dished out 3.2 assists. Brown will be a big scoring threat for the Cagerz, but also has the ability to run the floor.
"Cleotis is a big guard who can score and play the point as well," said Cagerz coach Francis Flax. "He is a true combo guard that can do a lot of things we'd like to do offensively. He can pass and shoot the ball very
well."

You are correct. Aaron has some problems he needs to work through.
With the Pruitt kid coming in ;Aaron's chances of quality PT were
next to nil for next season. Pruitt is a lot more mobile and is a
hard worker in the weight room, like Roger Powell. I was hoping
Spears would play like his Dad, Dan Davis (a minimal talent with
lots of heart). Aaron has talent. Hopefully, a new environment will
help.

I heard this on the news and was a little shocked. Haven't heard
where he is going.
Really don't think this will have too much affect on Illinois next
year.

Champaign, Ill. - Redshirt freshman Aaron Spears, a 6-9
center/forward from Chicago's Dunbar High School, announced today
his intention to transfer from the Illinois basketball program.
"I feel that it's time for me to make a move," Spears said. "I'm
going to miss both the players and coaches at Illinois, but it is
best for me at this time to change schools."
"Aaron had a troubled year," Illini head coach Bruce Weber said. "He
fought through some adversity and tried to do what the coaches
asked, and came to the point where he felt he needed a fresh start.
The coaching staff wishes him nothing but the best and hopes that a
new academic environment will help Aaron to success not only in
basketball, but in life."
Spears played in 20 games in 2003-04, averaging 1.1 points and 0.6
rebounds per game. He saw action in six games as a true freshman in
2002-03, averaging 3.2 points and 1.5 rebounds before suffering a
season-ending knee injury that forced him to take a medical
redshirt. For his two-year Illini career, Spears totaled 40 points
(1.5 ppg) and 20 rebounds (0.8 rpg).
Illini Sign Brock To National Letter of Intent
Chicago Simeon All-Stater is Chicago Sun-Times Area Player of the Year
April 19, 2004
Champaign, Ill. - University of Illinois men's basketball coach Bruce
Weber announced today that Chicago Simeon All-Stater Calvin Brock
signed a national letter of intent to play for the Fighting Illini.
Brock, a 6-foot-5-inch, 180-pound wing player, is the second high
school senior to sign a letter of intent with the Illini this year.
He joins Shaun Pruitt (6-9, F., West Aurora HS) who signed with
Illinois in November.
"We are very pleased to find someone as talented and versatile as
Calvin Brock in the late signing period," Weber said. "The thing we
like best about Calvin is that he has a great upside. He kind of came
out of nowhere in recruiting circles and at the end had schools from
all over the country calling. Calvin comes from a high school program
with a long connection to the University of Illinois and played under
a great coach in Bob Hambric, who instills tremendous discipline in
his program and prepares his players for college basketball. This
signing helps us continue to make inroads in the Chicago area as
Calvin was the Sun-Times Player of the Year and is also a great
student as a member of the Public League All-Academic team."
Brock earned first-team All-State honors by the Associated Press,
Chicago Sun-Times, IBCA, Chicago Tribune and Champaign-Urbana News-
Gazette after averaging 24 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, five
blocks and three steals a game for the Wolverines under Hambric. He
was named the Chicago Sun-Times Area Player of the Year and was rated
a consensus Top-100 player by recruiting services. Brock helped
Simeon to a record of 26-5 and the Elite Eight of the 2004 Class AA
state tournament. A top student, Brock was named to the Chicago
Public League All-Academic team and has plans to pursue engineering
at the University of Illinois.
Brock played in the EA Sports Roundball Classic in Chicago and the
Wendy's All-Star Shootout game between high school stars from Chicago
and New York. He joins a list of Simeon alums to attend Illinois that
includes Nick Anderson, all-time scoring leader Deon Thomas, Bryant
Notree, Ervin Small and Kevin Turner. Anderson and Thomas also earned
Sun-Times Player-of-the-Year honors at Simeon.
Added some files of the Illini beating Duke to stop their 95 non
conference winning streak at Camron Center.
Sorry but I couldn't get the sound to record. Will try to learn how
to add it.
Enjoy.
Glad you are enjoying the photo. That's cool that you knew Vance once upon a time.

Steve brought to my attention that only moderators were able to add
photos. That was by accident. He sent me several photos and I have
added them to the album (Steve's). They are great photos he got from
a book on Illini basketball history.
Thanks Steve!

IT was believable for the first couple sentences.

I just gotta fax from a friend in England. It looks like Illinois
will be bringing in a top notch basketball recruit. Maybe next
season. but more likely he will enroll Fall of 2006. His name is
Baktar Musa. His father is an ethnic Albanian from Kosovo. His
mother is half British and half Dinka. One of Baktar's maternal
uncles is 7-8. Baktar is 15 years old, 6-11 1/2, weighs 220, and
is still growing. He has huge hands and a 7-6 wingspan. With a 46
inch vertical leap and a world class long jump, he has great hang
time and can easily dunk from the top of the circle. Baktar can also
shoot. He recently won both the slam dunk and 3 point shoot out at
an International junior event. And one scout said passing his
probably his best skill. Josh U. Campbell, of Stokely Van Camp's
Scouting Service, says he can play virtually any position in
college. Baktar is also an honor student who speaks 16 languages,
scored a 36 on his ACT, and expects to graduate high school early.
He wants to attend a college with a good nuclear engineering
curriculum and competitive basketball program.
robin
Pruitt is our only recruit as of right now. Jerrance
Howard is the only player that we are losing. Due to
Kyle Wilson's transfer last year, we do have one more
scholarship. There is talk of holding that
scholarship over and giving out 5 to the high school
class of 2005 and only one in 2004.
BUT, we have offered a scholarship to Calvin Brock, a
senior at Chicago Simeon. He is an extremely athletic
swingman, 6'5" tall, and would be the second recruit
in our class of 2004, leaving four scholarships for
2005 (two of which are spoken for by Jamar Smith and
David Palmer).
Here is a link about Calvin Brock
http://highschoolelite.com/2004/brock.html
And a Sun Times Article on him
http://www.suntimes.com/output/roundball/spx-news-eabrock22.html
Note that in the Sun Times Article he says that
whatever school he chooses will have a strong
engineering program, sounds like Illinois to me!!
Hope that helps,
B$

Ok, I know that we have got Shaun Pruitt coming...... I thought I
heard of another, but I can't find anything on the web about any
additional recruits......
Anyone else know about possible additions for next year????

They played their hearts out. Dee was out there with a stress
fracture and refused to be taken out. Don't know what was up with
Nicky and his attitude. Got a little upset with him. And Weber was
in his face. Wish they could have kept up on how they started the
game. They came out strong. A few got into foul trouble early and
that hurt them. They were great on the offensive rebounds, but just
couldn't hit their shots. If they could have hit them, they might
have won the game. They went farther than was predicted and they did
wonderful. I do hate that they didn't make it to San Antonio.
They will be a force to be reckoned with in the 2004-2005 season.
All but Howard should be returning.
