Playing for tags in a non official tag round - Why not?   Message List

Re: [Fiends] Playing for tags in a non official tag round - Why not?

I'm interested to know when the rule was changed so that you COULD
NOT play one on one for a tag. That's how the tags began, what, 12
years ago.
It was actually patterned after the Rasta Bears tag challenge.
It was only after Tag Czar Magic decreed 'official tag challenge
days' and scorekeeping that the one on one challenges became passe,
but were they actually decreed as 'unaceptable'.
MikeM is correct, nothing would change for the 'official' challenge,
except maybe for who calls the tees.
If a #50 tag defeats a #1 tag in a singles round, then both deserve
what they get, especially the advantages of the #1 tag.
Theoretically, a #50 tag shouldn't beat a #1 holder in most
situations.

Wharthog, sounds like you're afraid MikeM will kick your ass one on
one.

saying. Try this scenario. You have the 50 tag. You play against the
one tag on Wednesday and win. You now show up and play the Thursday
tag round. You tie the 2 tag holder (someone uninvolved with your
Wednesday match) for the low score of the tournament. You get the one
tag and he gets the 2 again. He didn't get in on your twosome match
the day before. It's not fair that you only had to beat one guy to
get the lower tag and have the advantage of the ties. It's also to
your advantage since you get to play in the lead group instead of
playing in a group with higher tagged golfers. These things mess up
the scoring. You don't have to believe it -- but I do and I think
you're wrong. I failed to mention that with the low tag you also get
to call a layout that you prefer -- adding to your ill-begotten
advantage even more.

close -- I'm sure you'll have the last word cuz I'm done.

What do you think about being able to play each other for each others particular tag like the DDG does? Here are my reasons why I think we should be able to. ...

If all you're contending to play for is what tag you get to enter with it doesn't seem like the rule you want to adjust. Your assumption that it won't "mess up...
