with the park re: holes 3 and 4, tweaking their locations. If so,
where will they be moved to?"
To answer I'm going to ignore multiple tee placements for simplicity.
Tee of hole 3 is to move to the right of the present location and
slightly forward, so that won't interfere with the sidewalk along
Reservoir Drive AND so that the tee shot is aimed more down hill and
less toward the playground. The basket is to move a corresponding
length down the hill – so that the overall effect is that the hole
plays exactly as long as it does today, but with less risk of discs
entering the playground.
The tee of hole 4 is to move slightly downhill towards the basket.
The basket is to move a corresponding length backward – so that the
overall effect is that the hole plays exactly as long as it does
today. We lose the red and yellow tees of four, but can create a new
yellow tee back in the woods (rightly anhyzer shot – Topher had a tee
in there once).
NOTE: we also get plants and trees planted on the hillside to
separate the third and fourth fairways and to return hole 3 to what
it was originally. Not many remember, but originally there were
several other huge Sycamore trees that blocked the third fairway. In
fact, hole 3 was originally a roller hole (one of several holes that,
because of the trees, could only be birdied with a highly accurate
roller or skip tee shot – holes 8 and 10 were the others). Having a
basket on a hill is a key design feature for roller shots.

since the paths from the back come up to 12 by the pole--or need to
drop 17, (aka 15 to 11), just to keep the road open--people are
regularly walking all over the course during events, regardless of
layout, (like Puppy Preview). The links layout is problematic, but
with the amount of land available on the front, it doesn't seem that
it can be avoided."
My discussion of avoiding the road was to address some of the
criticisms of a links layout. I understand the reluctance to change
current 12 (though I'd like to try it with the basket down the hill
beyond the current location – and alternate pin placement if you
will – if only because it will make 12 even more treacherous). I also
understand that current 15 tee to current 11 basket makes a fine
hole. Again, with a links layout the foot traffic on the road will
increase – and we should consider the implications and alternatives,
even if we ultimately reject them. I advocate fully considering the
possibilities and implications – not a particular layout.
Finally thoughts & considerations:
1. I'd like to see alternative pin placements incorporated into the
new design. Some future "greens" will naturally have room for
additional pins. Over the years we have developed multiple tees, but
not multiple pin locations. Given the investment in tee pads,
changing the basket locations to create the "red" and "yellow" holes
now seems a better method of providing variety than 54 separate tee
pads scattered in the woods.
2. New tee signs AND "next tee" signs will have to be funded and
installed.
3. Play on "Classic Sedgley" will be reserved for special events AND
only lids and non-golf plastic allowed.
