We are going to give another try on having youth show up for possible
leagues on November 3rd.  We had 15 to 20 girls or boys show up last
week...  not enough for a league but enough for something perhaps.
Once it again it will be free for next week.  I don't know that we
will be able to get anything going for youth under 6th grade and I
would just advise youth older than 9th or maybe even younger to just
join the womens league I have going in January.

If interested in youth leagues they can just show up on November 3rd
at Spiece at 6 pm or after. There will be youth open court from 6 pm
to 7 pm.

Some parents have wanted an instructional league and we may able to do
that with the help of South Side coach Erika Prasuhn, but she can't
make it next week.

There are no matches at the Seminary this Wednesday, October 29th due
to a Seminary basketball game.  This was an oversight on my part as it
wasn't listed in my contract and I didn't notice it because I've never
had October dates unavailable before...  but I guess the basketball
team is getting more popular there.

There is not time on the schedule so I will just have to refund all
teams $30 for Wednesday.  I will also have to refund $5 per player for
all the Monday teams that missed last night...  that is... if you have
already paid...

Anyone interested in youth leagues can just show up on October 27th at
Spiece at 6 pm or after.  There will be youth open court from 6 pm to
7:15.  I am trying to get a junior high league as well as a 6th grade
and under league going.  Any high school players can simply play in
the womens league.  Boys are ok in the youth league.

The cost will be $45 to $50 per player and it will end either on
December 22nd or the week before that. Teams will have an hour of open
court league play each week starting November 3rd at Spiece and it
will last 7 to 8 weeks.  There will be referees.

Some parents have wanted an instructional league but maybe I can do
this league this season to get it going and then see what we can do as
far as an instructional goes in January.

I have the schedules there as I am working on them and you can get your start
time by opening up the schedule. I won't change any teams start time but there's
a chance I could change the second match time... but most likely only if a team
is on the tail end of a schedule.

I will be only making the first 2 weeks of the schedule to make sure
teams all show up the first week and are in the right divisions... so
there's still time to enter as a team or individual.

The youth league on Monday nights looks like a go... at least for the
junior high age group.  Any high school players can simply play in the
womens league.

I'm not sure what to do yet about the girls (and boys) under junior
high age but I could either have them try to play the older kids or try
to form at least two teams that age that play each other each week.

What I'd like to do is have prospective players and teams show up at 6
pm on October 27th and then start the league on November 3rd...

Follow the links on this link to read where a former resident of Fort
Wayne blames the Amish for Fort Wayne problems.

One of the most misunderstood rules in volleyball and our leagues is
regarding double contact.  In sixes it is ok to double contact the
ball on the first contact, but not the second or third contact... and
it can look pretty ugly.  It is not ok to lift it on any contact.

In beach fours however it is not ok to double contact on any contact
but it is ok to lift the ball on first contact in the case of a hard
driven ball.  For indoor fours rules, however, we have been reverting
to sixes rules re: double contacts and lifts.

I am going against USAV rules when I allow sixes teams to play with
three players but it is in the interest of getting a good game going
and not forfeiting.  I don't think anyone likes forfeiting.  Playing
with 2 in a fours league has always been ok.

In the past teams of 3 playing in sixes actually may win as high as
55% of the time.   This is partly because players can be more
aggressive in playing the ball, and they can get in a good rhythm by
serving a lot, and also because teams of 6 playing teams of 3 are
taken out of their rhythm by having too many options on areas of the
court they think they can score a point.

One thing that shouldn't be a factor is teams of 2 or 3 complaining at
a team of full or near-full compliment about tips and possible cheap
shots because "they" don't have a full team on court.  If a team is
short it's their own fault.  Full or near-full compliment teams should
be able to take advantage of whatever they want (as long as its a
legal play)... especially in tournament.  I am going to start
recommending to refs that they consider such talk from teams with
lesser players to be "shit" talk and to warn them about it, and
afterwards a point penalty assessed just like it would be with any
other trangression of that type.  Prima donnas don't rule the court...

Thanks to leads from people in the league the volleyball lights all
work now.  The Westinghouse circuit breaker was installed Thursday
before leagues.

I have checks paid to the league from KNS Acquisitions and Pain
Manangement Associates and I have no idea what teams they go to.

Also, I have numerous teams and players that still owe....

There is a power issue to the panel that control the volleyball
lights.  Bathrooms and the worklights to the new courts are on a
different panel and work just fine.  Also, the bar has power.

It is unclear at this time when the power issue will be resolved but
at this moment I would guesstimate some where between Tuesday and
Wednesday.

All Monday matches tomorrow will go on as schedule except for the
matches involving the following teams:  Team Jordan, Papa G, ProAVP,
JJ and Net Surfers.

Those matches will be replayed on Sept. 22nd on Court #5 at the same
match times:

8 pm)  Team Jordan, ProAVP

8:30)  Papa G

9 pm)  Net Surfers

9:30)  JJ


If the power problem is not fixed by Tuesday the Coed A Tourney would
be moved to September 30th. The BB tourney will go on as scheduled on
Tuesday.

All League Tourneys are online.

All tourneys are double elimination but some losers bracket games will
be played on the new courts under what is now worklight lighting.

The Friday tournament and the Saturday benefit tourney will be
postponed until next weekend.  This is due to the main breaker panel
failing downstairs at River City.  There is still power to the minor
panels like the bathroom lights and lights to the new courts.  And the
bar and most everything else to that building still has power there.
As of this moment the replacement part has still not been located
because its an old part, so Monday and Tuesday may have to have an
adjusted schedule, though not canceled or postponed.

The Friday tourney scheduled for tonight will now be Friday, September
19th starting at 7 pm.  If it turns out there is still a problem by
then we may have to move the time up to take advantage of daylight.

The Saturday and Sunday benefit tourney will now be played next
weekend on Sept. 20th and 21st.

Open play is now available on Fridays.  You can come out at 6 pm.
Leagues will be starting at 7 pm.  Theres still room for another coed
fours team on Friday.

The cost for open court is $2.  The bar will be open.

Also, there is a coed doubles tourney this Saturday that starts at 5
pm.  There are 8 teams signed up so far...

Sunday Fours:  August 2nd
Monday Fours:  August 3rd
Tuesday Fours:  August 4th

I will still take Friday teams for the Coed Fours for awhile yet...

I am also still forming some teams if you are interested as an
individual.
