There have been a couple incidents at Spiece this session involving
car break-ins... Make sure you lock your car doors, and also report
any suspicious activity you might see. In fact, I may get a high
power flashlight and walk through the parking lot a couple times a
night.
As soon as the ground thaws the electric company will be able to
repair the short to the outdoor lighting of the parking lot.
So make sure you lock your doors and keep VALUABLES OUT OF VIEW.
The last break-in, I was told, looked to be the work of kids. And
in general, there is supposed to be less crime when it is cold
out...therefore, I think the most likely cantidates are thugs that
play open court basketball, that as they are leaving walk by a car,
and get an urge to take something from a car that has something
valuable that is visible. I could be wrong but if that info helps
someone keep their stuff (for example seeing a certain someone
standing close to your own car or someone else's vehicle) then it's
worth it.
But don't get me totally wrong... 80% to 90% of the open court
basketball people range from nice to ok in relation to us... I mean,
they get pelted by at least 10 volleyballs every hour or so from us
(On Tuesday and Wednesday) that the netting doesn't catch, and in
general, have been good to very good about it. But obviously
someone can be nice about that and still take your stuff... So
anyway, watch where you put your valuables inside, as well as out in
your car.
Spiece and the Seminary both have had a high percentage of return
with their lost and found (Turnstone is the best in this area, and
also regarding theft... theives have broken into Turnstone's
facility in the past, and the judicial system has no sympathy for
people who steal from a facility that is designed to rebuild lives
of the disabled).
Fair Play, or the facilities that Fair Play rents, are not
responsible for lost or stolen items.
