I rewrote the mission statement for Fair Play about a month or so
ago. I wanted to put something into it about how kids are forced in
general to be adults too soon, and therefore we misunderstand the
purpose of play. But that would have made it too long I think.
The value of play in today's society is not taken seriously enough.
In sports, kids are being pressured by adults to perform. And there
isn't enough emphasis on the joy of simply playing. Winning and
losing are over-emphasized. If winning is seen as being part of the
game it is ok to strongly desire to win. But if there is a life or
death quality to winning and losing, it may be time for a coach or
parent to take a step back and get some perspective. Adults may not
have grown up with a healthy attitude and placement of sports in
their lives.

Fair Play Mission Statement:
The mission of Fair Play is to simply give everyone that we possibly
can an equal opportunity to play. Anyone who pays, and follows the
Fair Play Code of Ethics, is certainly welcome. Good sportsmanship &
good intentions are encouraged.
Code of Ethics:
* Respect the house rules of the facility,
& the neighbors of the facility.
* Be respectful of other people who play,
& friends who come to watch.
* Respect the referees & the organization.
Fair Play Volleyball:
Fair Play Volleyball is about "Fair Play" firstly & volleyball
lastly. I would rather see people learn to enjoy themselves & other
people, & even become better human beings from the interaction.
There's nothing with being too competitive, right? Actually, yes
there is. Read the newspaper every month (psycho hockey dads, soccer
riots, etc…). If being too competitive interferes with the Fair Play
Code of Ethics, then there is a problem… It is supposed to be fun.
