Bram,
Your package mentioned regulating front row tent spaces. Here is my
suggestion to the organizing committee concerning front row tent spaces. I
think a limit should be enforced on the footage of frontage space. Some
teams are getting tents that are really long and taking space that in the
past would accommodate 2 or 3 teams. You should mark off spots that are
about 40 or so feet, which I believe the width of all tents will fit in. If
the teams tent does not fit, then they must turn the tent 90 degrees to run
back away from the water instead of along the water. This will allow more
teams equal access to water front viewing. If teams have more than one tent,
only one may be water front within their space. I realize that some areas
have a slope to deal with but that will be the team's problem.

Although club teams may be representing multiple school, like SCC has
entries for 4 high schools, the club may only have one front row spot
instead of the number of schools they are representing. I'm sure GAR, MRC,
OARS and SSYRP will accept this.

I know we all want a level and fair playing field and that should go for the
spectators too. Parents and teammates all should be able to watch their
races without have to walk through other tents to get there.

Thanks,
Brice A. Crossley

The only place where this might be a problem is on the access road to the
startline. And they have already said no tents in that area to keep it clear
for official vehicles. Which again reduces the amount of front row space
available. Which again is a reason for rotating those tents which are 2 or 3
times as long as the traditional square ones.

Steve,
Glad you shared that with the entire FSRA. And I'm sure you will be happy
when I'm gone next year. But than I'm sure most people already know your
true nature.

I too have connections and I'm not concerned about our location. But I made
the suggestion, which was only a suggestion, to allow all teams equal
access, instead of coaches of traditional powerhouses like yourself using
your 'status' to get 'special' treatment.

To the rest of FSRA and Bram, sorry I made the suggestion. I thought it
might help make the regatta more enjoyable for all.

How embarrassing. I will explain what led up to this when I have more time,
but the connection has vaporized. I really appreciate all that Brice, Steve
and many coaches have done for the FSRA.

It looks like this issue has become worthy of some policy decisions due to
the growth of our sport. Bram and I are meeting tomorrow afternoon to
coordinate land and water duties and supplies. We will begin discussion on
guidelines to solve this problem so that this no longer becomes a negative
issue.

I went to a balloon festival at the airport across the canal last weekend and
I would like to get the word out to everyone that Exit 6 for Highway 301
North has been switched again due to the never ending construction and now it
comes up much earlier. DON'T MISS THE EXIT. If you do, like I did, the next
two exits are closed and it will take you an extra 15 minutes to go to the
next open one to make a U-turn.

In the meantime, good luck to all of you in your next two weeks of training.

:-) Martyn

I must apologize, I was sending a reply and it was not intended for the
group. I am sorry Brice, I am frustrated and tired. It has been a long
year. Sorry. It would been directed at anything right now, school, crew
and the politics of school and crew. Brices's work on communications has
been a big help to the program.
Sorry.
Steve de Zwart

Peter had a suggestion last year that might work. But it required a
rotation schedule that schools would intially draw for. Each year the
schools would shift to the next spot in line.

On behalf of the Miami Rowing Club membership, its Board of Directors,
the MRC Youth Program, Pocholo and myself I want to take this opportunity

We like the civilized approach (a new concept here in Miami) of having a
rotation schedule of the site location that is planned, on paper, and
approved by everyone.

Something to finalize next fall at the coaches's meeting.

Bram and I talked about my stupidity and the tent issue. One solution is a
merging of the two ideas. Divide the teams into two groups, one group
would be assigned spaces on the starting line side of the finish and the
other group the down course side. Within each group a draw is done to
decide the lineup of tents (using the finish as a starting point for each
group). Every year the groups are flipped so that every other year the
groups have the race course side of the finish line.

Another suggestion is that Bram simply line off tent sites based on the
size recommended by Brice, number them and assign sites based on a blind
draw. This would be good temporary solution. Until the fall meeting.

It would be cool if we could somehow access the road on the other side of
the course for race commentary and use more of the roadway on the offical's
side of the race course.

Michael S. Bruce Since everyone has their opinion of waterfront
property rights. I suggest we do what was done in Oklahoma. All coaches
line-up on Hwy 301 each has a stake with a flag a starters gun goes off
we race and stake our claim. Just kidding . My tent is only 12'X12'
maybe a couple feet more with stakes. I hope I can be somewhere between
the start line and finish line. Thank you for your time.

Hello everyone. I was just wondering, for those of you sending boats to
Delaware, if there was any room you could spare on your trailers? I'm
sending one four and one double. We would be more than happy to pay any
fees necessary for transport. Also, we can trailer the boats to you, or
meet you along your route, whichever is easiest. Any information on other
possibilities would also be helpful. Thank you!

Hey Gang,

Thanks to everyone for doing such a great job coaching your crews on race day
to make last weekend's state race such a success!

Regarding shell transportation from Delaware, last night I got a phone call
from Paul Quinn, the coach at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona
Beach. He bought a new shell (Vespoli I think) that he would like to find a
trailer ride from Scholastic Nationals in Delaware.

I referred him to the FSRA website and told him I knew Edgewater was going,
but I'm not sure if he has contacted Steve DeZwart yet or what their
trailering situation is. If anyone has trailer space and would like to pick
up some gas money, contact Paul at plquinn@....

To those going, have a safe trip and great racing!

:-) Martyn Dennis

Dear Paul, We would probably have room on our trailer. I am not sure what
the details of our departure is yet, but you could call Steve Hitchcock at
904-221-9353 and we could work them out. (He doesn't know about this
e-mail, though, so you would need to introduce your call by explaining that
we had communicated. We would need your boats in Jacksonville before Weds.

Howdy,

While some crews are making plans to go to Delaware, Leon is taking 3 boats
to Cincy on Wednesday June 7 and returning Sunday June 11 (Scholastics
falls on our graduation weekend). If there are any other Fla. schools that
are planning to go and would like to discuss sharing some trailer space
just send me an email.

We will be bringing a 4 down to Maclay that was purchased from Ohio State
and we will have plenty of space for other boats.

Good luck to those crews competing at Scholastics!

Tom

Hello,

I just wanted to send a brief note of appreciation to the entire FSRA
membership. As many of you know, youth rowing is finally taking off in
Tampa. Four new teams (Berkeley Preparatory School Boat Club, Hillsborough
High School Crew, Plant High School Crew, and Tampa Catholic High School
Crew) have completed their first season. We formed the Tampa Youth Rowing
Committee this past Fall to organize our efforts and maintain a safe rowing
environment for our athletes. I would like to especially thank all of the
coaches, officials and rowers who welcomed our kids at their first "State
Championship" regatta. I would also like to wish all of the Florida crews
advancing to upcoming races the best of luck.

Sincerely,
David D. Schumacher

It is my understanding that the city of Gainesville is hosting the games
this year. However, I do not know who is in charge of the rowing events
and where they will be held. Perhaps Paul Bugenhagen or one of the other
Gainesville people can find out the answer.

Call the Florida Sports Foundation at 1-850-488-8347. The games, I was told,
would be between July 6-9 most likely in Palatka....where the Gainesville
Crew Classic was held. I've requested info, but nothing has come.
