Coaches and administrators, in order to facilitate the most effective seeding for the FSRA Sweep Championships on April 28-29, please send an email to FSRA Regatta Director Brice Crossley (Regatta@...) indicating which events you want your team to be seeded in (ie. "BV8, B2V8, B Jr. 8, G Lt. 4+," etc.).

Also, a reminder that the deadline for entries to the FSRA Sweep Championships is midnight, April 14th.  Please be sure to refer to the "Rules & Eligibility" page on Regattacentral (https://www.regattacentral.com/regatta/rules.jsp?job_id=2059&org_id=0) if you have any questions about eligibility for particular events.

RE: Clarification on Seeding process

Clarification on the seeding process: all entries will be seeded unless specifically requested otherwise. It is not necessary to request seeding as this is the normal lane assignment process. However if you are entering a boat just to give your extra athletes a race that you don’t expect it to be competitive for finals and should not be seeded, please send an email to FSRA Regatta Director Brice Crossley (Regatta@...) indicating this exception.

Lane assignments have been posted on Regatta Central:
https://www.regattacentral.com/cms/uploads/florida_scholastic_rowing_association\
/files/FSRA-Sculling-Championships-2012-Sunday-Apr-15-heat-sheet.pdf

All submitted entries including exhibition B entries have been accepted and
assigned lanes.

Please note tomorrow, Sunday April 8, is the deadline for late entries and
scratches without additional $50 scratch fee. Final schedule will be posted
early next week.

Coaches, please review your boatings. No doubling is allowed and also not
recommended since most athletes will have about 3 races in one day in just one
event with our progression system.

Please look at volunteer assignments:

Most teams still need to submit volunteers, if even you only have 1 or 2 boats
entered.

Practice:
FIRA regatta is expected to be done and off the water by 3:30 pm Saturday (weather permitting).  FSRA plans to have the course open for practice from 4 pm to 7 pm. Outgoing launch docks close at 6:30 pm with all docks closed at 7 pm.

Trailers:
All FSRA team trailers / car-top boats arriving before 3:30 pm Saturday can expect to be staged in the large parking area at the south end of the lake until space is available. FIRA needs room to load and exit (~4:00 pm). Follow Parking Staff instructions.

Many teams still have not provided a couple volunteers for the FSRA Sculling Champs. Without them, we cannot race. Most teams have small groups coming to this event so we all need to work together to use any extra people you have available.

Please look at this list and sign up for a spot: https://www.regattacentral.com/regatta/volunteer.jsp?job_id=2112&org_id=0

Please send me your name, team affiliation, and cell number. First priority is filling stake boat openings with either students (good opportunity to put your alternates to work) or parents, and Finish Line with parents. I also need 4 adults to work with the refs as course marshals helping round up crews at the start line (2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon). Refs will provide direction and supervision and the LOC will provide you a motor launch with a driver.

Weather forecast is currently partly cloudy with winds 11MPH or less from the south meaning we should have a great day on the water.

Wrist bands are required to compete in Lightweight and Junior events. Checklist forms are generated from Regatta Central entries; coaches make sure you have the correct boatings including alternates entered.

Lightweights: test scales are available Friday only at HQ trailer near the finish line; no testing on Saturday. Weigh-ins are Saturday only. The whole boat including alternates must be present at Saturday weigh-ins. The team adult representative does not have to be the coach. Bring a photo id in case you don’t make weight during your Saturday weigh-in. Otherwise we cannot allow you a second opportunity to make weight.

Junior Events: Only those rowers and coxies in Junior events need to show proof of age.  Bring a photo ID what shows your date of birth. Please stop by the HQ trailer near the finish line on Friday; you can come individually and don’t have to have all your boat together for this.

FSRA park use agreement for Sarasota’s Benderson Park commences Friday morning,
so no arrivals allowed prior to 6 AM Friday. Teams planning to drive over
Thursday or earlier can stage their trailers off site until that time at their
own risk.

Teams bringing utility/supply trailers to be parked near their team tent must
arrive prior to Saturday 6:30 am. Team should plan to arrive Friday.

Team tents including tie-down lines must provide a minimum of 5 foot clearance
from the road. This will be enforced for safety reasons.

Tent space is first come, first served, with the following stipulations:
1) Tents may not exceed the 25 foot wide markings on the road.
2) Tents and all ropes must be at least 5 feet back from the road.

As indicated by road markings, tents are allowed on both sides. That said, due
to the limited space on the water-side of the road, most larger teams will need
to set up on the west (tree) side of the road where there is more depth back
from the road.

1) we need coarse marshals to watch over crews to address safety issues should
any come up. Coaches are welcome to do this. Consider it a 2 hour break on the
water away from everyone. All you need to be able to drive an outboard motor and
have a cell phone to make a call for help if needed.

2) to avoid boat damage, all boats must avoid the area south of the start bridge
especially in the SE area with yellow markings. The water level is down and
under water hazards exist.

Traffic pattern:
Lane 0 (closest to the west shore) is south bond only (from finish to start).
When approaching the start line bridge, pass it on the west side and immediately
turn left behind (south) of the start line to warmup area to the east.
Warm-up/practice area a counter clockwise loop north and east of the start line.

Remember on race day, all boats near the race course are required to come to a
complete stop when a race is passing by.

A traffic pattern map will be provided as soon as possible.

Subject: Rowing family needed for exchange student!

Good afternoon,

My name is Cristina, I am the program coordinator for STS Foundation, a non-profit organization that sponsors International Students to live and study in the US for an academic year or semester.

We are proud to have been successfully placing international students with host families in and around the area for over twenty years and want to keep this welcoming tradition alive. Our belief is that international student exchange is a unique and vital source of knowledge and an empowering supplement to both the American student's and the exchange student's education and experience. STS Foundation is recognized as one of the leading student exchange organizations and strictly adheres to criteria established by the CSIET and the Department of State. We believe that those standards are essential in providing the cultural experience for which we strive.

Currently, we are sponsoring a student from the Netherlands to spend her high school exchange year here in the US and we are looking for the best family and school for her. This student enjoys rowing very much, and in an effort to place her with a host family who shares similar interests, I would like to kindly ask if you would be able to help me connect with your rowing students and families. To clarify, my purpose is not to secure a spot for her to row on a team, but to find a host family who shares similar interests so that she can fit in well with the family and consequently have a positive exchange experience—that’s why I’m reaching out to you.

She is 17 years-old and her state of choice is Florida. Back home she loves spending time with her friends and listening to music. She is excited about the opportunity to make new friends, to learn about American culture, and to experience life as an American high school student does. Her passion is rowing and she has been active on her rowing team for five years. She describes herself as spontaneous and lighthearted and is looking forward to this big adventure. She hopes to find a loving host family she can become a part of and share her customs with.

This experience can also be really enriching to American students. When families with High School students host for us, they too have a chance to receive a scholarship to study abroad.

Please let me know if this is something you can help me with, and I will be happy to send you more information if anyone in your community shows interest in becoming a host family.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Cristina Carrasco

As we come down to the wire, here are some things to pass along:

·         All athletes, spectators, volunteers and VIPs park on the north end of the park and use the trolley to the north end drop off. This includes all bus service. Buses will run 1200 to 2000 on Friday and from 0600 on Saturday and Sunday.

·         No team tents are allowed in the park before 0600 Friday. Spaces will be granted on a first come basis. Only one spot per team.

·         Boat trailers, team tents, ADA, and community access (not associated with the regatta) are to use the south entrance.

·         Boat trailers must queue on the south end of the lake until the team has arrived to off load the trailer. At that time, the trailer will be released to proceed to the boat ramp area where it will be temporally parked for off loading. This must be done quickly a the trailer returned to the south lot for overnight parking. Trailers will be queue again for Sunday’s loading.

·         Only two vehicles from each team, the tow vehicle and a team tent service vehicle  will be allowed in the south entrance. Tow vehicles will be allowed to park adjacent to the boat storage. Team tent service vehicle will be asked to park south along the west side of road.

·         A 20’ section has been measured off for tent tents. One spot per team. Tents must be located within the designated area.

·         Traffic pattern: NO BOATS  may cross the race course. All boats must pass behind the  start platform. No boats are allowed in the yellow buoy area. All boats must enter the race course from the east side (after you have passed behind the start platform).

·         The awards dock will be in front of the bleachers.

My apologies. I just forwarded these notes from the local committee after a quick review.

Clarification RE: boat trailers unloading – those wishing to unload immediately near the boat ramp will be staged at the south end. Others will be parked as they arrive Friday at the permanent location for the regatta.

Thanks, Brice
