Team, we did it!

On behalf of Benderson Development and the Regatta Organization Committee (ROC), thank you for your tireless efforts which started back in 2004 when we first initiated the planning for a world class park and the state regattas in 2009.  We have flawlessly planned and executed our due diligence, master park design, regattas, public support and partnerships to help create a true World Class Aquatics Athletics Center that will be one of the world’s best!

As a result of yesterday’s vote, by our County Commissioners, to increase the Tourist Development Tax, we now can proceed to build the first two phases of the World Class Rowing Facility!  These two phases ($20 M) will shape the lake and depth in accordance to the master concept plans and national and international rowing guidelines.  This will also provide the needed infrastructure such as potable water, sewer, parking, trails, access, park amenities, landscaping and hardscaping to create a premier community park and aquatic center.  These phases will allow us to host local, state, and regional regattas by 2011 and national and international regattas by 2012.   The third phase ($10 M)will have the finishing touches (the icing) such as the permanent finishing tower, iconic boathouse and other world class rowing and training amenities. This phase will allow us to host world rowing, paddling, cross country and other athletic events. The funding will be through partnerships, sponsors and naming rights. Phase three will be completed by 2013-14.

Our hard work is paying off. Every team member had a significant contribution and when we say significant, we mean it. We all have shared the same vision from the beginning and we will continue to ensure that this park will be maximized to its fullest potential and be well managed.  Now we have one of the best aquatic venue manager, Sarasota County has hired Bob Whitford to take the facility to the next level.  It will be our duty to ensure that he is successful. In the meantime, we have five regattas in 2011; therefore, we must stay on track and follow through and step up like we did last year and have the best state regattas yet!  Lets help Bob take this facility to the next world class level! Our work has just begun and a new chapter has started, so let’s continue to ROC and Roll!

Please thank the Sarasota County Commissioners that truly shared the vision that Sarasota is World Class in so many different ways.  From Congressmen Vern Buchanan, Senator Bennett, Jim Ley and his 2010 Musings (a must read), John McCarthy with Sarasota Parks and Rec, Tom Polk, Jim Harriot, Tom Walsh with TSW, Tony Sawyer with the  Meadows, John Krotec with Fruitville 210, Virginia and Jason with SCVB, the Sarasota Chamber, MPO, Rick Piccolo with SRQ, Rae Dowling with FPL, Friends of the Parks, Mary Slapp with GCBX, HBA, ARGUS, Siesta Key Chamber, CONA, Scullers, Crew, Masters, FSRA, FIRA, SE Regionals, CRI, Guy Peterson and the UF Architecture Department, County Sherriff’s Dept, USRowing, Rowing News, USF, SCF, OKC and Coach Alex. A special thanks to Coach Harry Parker that confirmed our vision. Thanks to all the rowing stars like Jason Read, Bruce Smith, John Lehnen, John Gartin, Brice Crossley, Allen Eubanks, Bob Whitford and Chip Davis and that came down to Sarasota, provided testimony, design guidance and believed in Sarasota’s vision.  We have over 400 volunteers to thank, and thousands of athletes, coaches and spectators. We thank you all! Our list will only grow and so will our future! Thanks again and as you can see, our work has just begun!

It’s an Honor to Serve!

Bryce,

I got your name from Justin Ledner (WinTech rep) who said you might be able to help. I am VP of the North Palm Beach Rowing Club (www.npbrc.com) and we are trying to see if you can help us network to a club in South Florida who could assist us in getting two boats to the Head of the Hooch on 6-7 Nov: a 4 and a double. We are hoping that we can get them onto a club’s trailer who is already planning on going. Understand there is usually a fee and are prepared to handle this.

FSRA,

It is my understanding that these were the medals that the US acquired in New Zealand.

-          Women’s 8+ won gold

-          Women’s Ltwt 4x won silver

-          Women’s 2- won bronze

-          Women’s 4- won bronze

We took 4 medals overall in NZ.

Subject: USRowing Presents Junior Day

USRowing is pleased to invite you to “Junior Day” on Saturday, December 4, as part of the 2010 Annual Convention being held at the Tampa Marriott Waterside.

Junior Day is geared specifically toward high school rowers and parents. USRowing Junior National Team Program Director Steve Hargis will speak about the process of being identified for the Junior National Team. Gail Silberstein of Rower’s Edge will speak on the college recruiting process for rowers. Athletes will have an opportunity to meet U.S. Olympian Tyler Winklevoss, portrayed in the movie “The Social Network.” The day will wrap up with a panel of college coaches and rowers answering questions about a day in the life of a collegiate rower.

Registration includes admission to all Junior Day sessions and lunch. Tickets are $35 for athletes only, and $50 to include a parent. Visit www.usrowing.org for online registration until November 22. On-site registration will be available beginning December 1.

For more information, contact AJ Dominique III at 609-751-0705 or e-mail alvin@....
