·By-law changes have been posted – added first and second
amendments.
I would like to clarify what I believe is a misunderstanding
about the first amendment that was passed. It changed the language to remove
the requirement for 2 state champs (scholastic and youth) but still allows for
multiple championships if the association membership deems that necessary. So instead
of calling for separate scholastic and youth championships, it calls for annual
championship(s) giving the association some flexibility. If the scholastic
teams deem it is necessary in the future to have a separate championship, that
can be addressed without changing the by-laws.
·Regatta schedules (fall and spring) up to date as far as the
info provided to me.
As always, please feel free to send updates. Good luck with your
fall races.
Thanks, Brice

Subject: Youth Olympics
All
U S Rowing and the USOC had extensive discussions early in 2009
concerning youth Olympics to be held in Singapore in 2010 and we have no
team scheduled to participate in this event. There are many reasons from
USOC most surround team size and priority or events. From US Rowing
standpoint this event is likely to be problematic.
Scheduling is one problem as these games require 2 week commitment to
attend and falls the week following junior worlds.
Us Rowing is in support of the decision by USOC not to send rowers.
I bring this to your attention as the following ran on fisa site this
week.

I will see you at the meeting this Saturday in Orlando.

TO: FSRA Membership RE: Proposed Constitutional & By-Law Amendments
Please see the attached amendments offered by the FSRA Executive Committee.
At last year's FSRA Annual Meeting, we discussed the need for FSRA to be a more responsive and efficient governing body for scholastic and youth rowing in Florida. The attached amendments are the Board's effort to clear up some ambiguities in our founding documents, and to help provide a more consistent, positive rowing season for the membership.
Amendment 1 - This is an effort to clean-up language in the Constitution and By-laws to reflect our current operations. The changes are non-substantive and are an effort to use consistent language throughout the document. Amendment 2 - Adds new language regarding the implementation of a season-long approach to member ethics. The FSRA Executive Committee believes its critical that our Association Members operate in a respectful and ethical manner throughout the entire rowing season, not merely on the weekend of our state championship. In creating this amendment, the Board looked to other similar youth athletic organizations, such as the FHSAA, for guidance. Recruiting of another teams' athletes is expressly forbidden. Amendment 3 - As many of you know, there have been ongoing problems between programs related to eligibility and recruitment of athletes. Coaches, in particular, have been put in the difficult position of being asked to permit certain athletes seek to leave their program for another. Elements of this proposal will be controversial, but the FSRA Board believes the various changes, taken as a whole, help solve the eligibility crisis and take coaches out role of "bad guy" in these disputes.
The amendment accomplishes three main things:
Expressly allows members, including those affiliated with public schools, to utilize middle schoolers from their feeder schools.
Bars team switching for all FSRA programs between 9/1 and 6/15.
Allows rowers to select their teams during the summer months.
If you have any questions about any of the amendments, please do not hesitate to reach out to me my phone (850.321.0738) or email (dsnewman99@...).
I look forward to seeing all of you in two weeks.
Best,
Dan Newman FSRA President

Due to the strong interest of additional people wanting to serve on the board, we will be "electing" 4 regional reps to serve as a steering committee and serve as a conduit for teams in their area to correspond with the executive board. The regions are
North (Tallahassee/Jax), Central (Orlando/Brevard), Southeast (Miami), and Southwest (Tampa/Sarasota). We believe this is a good first step to a future amendment to the Constitution to increase the board size from 5 to 9.
We plan to adjust the following agenda to allow invited guest speakers to go first before proceeding with normal business. We have invited the Benderson Corporation to speak on the development progress of the Sarasota venue. We have invited the Florida
Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to speak on listening sessions and future plans for state boating rules and regulations.
The agenda per By-Laws is as follows:
Registration of representatives and roll call.
Reading and approval of previous minutes.
Report of Treasurer.
Report of President.
Consideration and vote on amendments to Constitution. (none submitted)
Setting the following year's Membership Dues.
Discussion of annual race schedule.
Discussion of Annual State Championship Regattas.
Junior National Team testing.
Election of New Officers.
Committee Assignments.
Unfinished Business.

Congratulations
to Tim Edsel and
Eric McDaniel. Eric and Tim were selected to
represent the U.S.
Adaptive Team in Poland. Tim will be coxing the 4+ and
Eric will be rowing the 4+ at World
Championships August 23-30.
Tim has been working very hard for a number of years to further adaptive rowing
in Florida. His efforts made it possible to bring adaptive rowing to the
Southern Erg Sprints. Tim has been a long time Cox and coach with F.I.T.
and has had is sights set on this goal for quite some time.
Eric, a wounded U.S. Soldier, came to the sport for the first time at the 2009
Souther Erg Sprints. He was immediately drawn to the sport and wasted no
time in getting out on the water with the help of Denny Antrim at the Stewards
Foundation and the Tampa V.A. Hospital.
Many programs have asked about the possability of starting an adaptive program
at their club. Tim's and Eric's stories are testimony to what is possible
when a group of rowers are willing to step up and take on the next
challenge. Adaptive rowing is very possible and most clubs already have
90% of the resources needed to make an adaptive program a
reality. If you're ready for the challenge, you may just find the next
world champion living in your neighborhood.
Rowing Clubs in SW region - please attend - important topics for non-motorized boating community From: ListeningSessions [mailto:ListeningSessions@MyFWC.com] Sent: Thursday, July 02, 2009 9:19 AM To: ListeningSessions Subject: Additional FWC ListeningSession for Non-motorized boats July 27th and deadline for email comments August 7th Hello, FWC has added an additional and final public non-motorized boating community listeningsession to be held in the southwest region of the state in Punta Gorda. Join us Monday, July 27th, from 6:30-8:00 p.m., at the Charlotte Harbor Conference Center. If you are unable to attend this ListeningSession then please send your comments to us by email: ListeningSessions@.... The final day to receive email comments is Friday, August 7th. We are compiling and analyzing the input and will post a report on the website in September. Please note: Florida has a very broad public records law. Most written communications to or from County Employees and Officials regarding County business are public records available to the public and media upon request. Your e-mail communication may be subject to public disclosure.
Bing™ brings you maps, menus, and reviews organized in one place. Try it now.
As you have noticed a few of the events have more than 6 entries. These events will be split into heats according to age/ability. It will not change the times of the events, these heats will have 7.5 minute centers. If I see that someone might have a 45 minute hot seat issue, I will make sure that they are in the first heat.
The Men's Master 4+ has been combined with the open 4+, it will be event 18 at 1200. The schedule will not compress, there will be a break for event 19.
The line up deadline is Wednesday the 22nd. I am mostly interested in ages so that I can split events into heats, set up the medals, and get the heat sheet figured out.
For registration purposes, please have one person per club hand in waivers (as much as possible.) That person can also pick up the swag bags for the club.
We will have a chiropractic masseuse especially experienced in rowing on site, a shaved ice vendor with hot dogs, etc. available, and a full bar-b-que vendor at the Farmers Market behind the boathouse.
As soon as the heat sheet is posted I will send out another email so that you can double check your events.
Looking forward to some serious racing on Saturday!

My wife is selling her Hudson 1X. It is in Daytona Beach at the Halifax
boathouse. It can be test rowed by appointment or at the Halifax Regatta on
25JUL. By the way, deadline for entries for the HRA regatta is 18JUL. We'd
love to see all you FL rowers at our regatta!
"Red" is a beautiful boat; for rowers 150-185 lbs, new seat and
comes with a Hudson boat cover. The boat was built specially by Hudson for
Rumyana Neykova to race at the HOC, which she won. Elizabeth, my wife,
bought it when she was a midweight and now is rowing at lightweight;
otherwise, she would have rowed it forever! I can forward pictures to
anyone interested. We're asking $4900, o.b.o.
Sorry about the late information, but I did not realize until today that I had neglected to include a Women's Master/Open Novice 4+. That has been remedied, it is event 11 directly after the "normal" Women's Master/Open 4+.
Hope this helps get some additional races for the novices!
As the summer comes to a close and we get ready for the fall meeting, I will be putting together a preliminary 2010 Spring planning schedule for our meeting. If you have tentative dates you would like to reserve for your regattas, please send them to me.
So far, I know of the following:

The deadline for the Halifax Summer Regatta is rapidly approaching, don't miss out!
A couple of notes on the regatta:
Security will be available Friday night if it is needed, please let me know by Sunday July 19th if you will be parking a trailer overnight on the 24th.
Fine Designs will be on site selling made to order commemorative HRA ’09 Regatta T-shirts, designed by artist David Bird.
This year we have put our hands on some samples, so---free stuff for everyone!
This is not a USRowing sponsored regatta, so a waiver needs to be filled out from the link on regattacentral. You may bring the waivers with you on Saturday morning.
Most importantly, if you have some novices, but not enough for an 8+, or are not sure where they would fit in, let me know, and I will put the word out. I will help you fill a boat, and let them race!
ORC will be taking a trailer to Camden this year, August 13-16. If there are individuals and/or crews needing transport, slots are available. For more information, please contact me.
