Pending items completed:

·        By-law changes have been posted – added first and second amendments.

I would like to clarify what I believe is a misunderstanding about the first amendment that was passed. It changed the language to remove the requirement for 2 state champs (scholastic and youth) but still allows for multiple championships if the association membership deems that necessary. So instead of calling for separate scholastic and youth championships, it calls for annual championship(s) giving the association some flexibility. If the scholastic teams deem it is necessary in the future to have a separate championship, that can be addressed without changing the by-laws.

·        Regatta schedules (fall and spring) up to date as far as the info provided to me.

As always, please feel free to send updates. Good luck with your fall races.

Thanks, Brice

Subject: Rowing Coach Position Offered
mkaminski@...
Send Email Send Email

Melbourne HS Rowing is looking to add a coach for the men's program for the 2010 spring season.

Pay competitive but commensurate with experience.

Coaching could be for the varsity squad, freshmen, or both. Again depending on experience.

Prior coaching experience needed (or at least 4 years of competitive rowing/coxing), also current CPR, first aid, a working knowledge of rigging, launch driving experience, and basic boat maintenance.

The successful applicant will need to be fingerprinted per school policy and pass a school district security check.

Opening starts in early January, but could start earlier if available.

The assistant coach will follow school and team policy, and work with the head coach to prepare the team for the state championships and scholastic nationals.

Men's team currently has 33 members and we also have 4 other assistants to help share the load. There is a very active parental group for extra help, and the organization has a solid long term plan.

Practice held weekdays after school and saturday mornings.

Apply through Matt Kaminski via email (mkaminski@...)

I'm trying to secure some equipment to be used by several alumni of the UCF women's club to varsity program for use at the Hooch.  The ideal boat would be a mid-weight eight and a set of oars. They are willing to pay a reasonable rental fee.  Please email me directly if you have anything available.

Dear coaches and friends of FSRA:

I wanted to make you all aware of an exciting,  unique rowing event hosted by Hillsborough High School Rowing Club on November 14th.  The Hillsborough Rowing Challenge is a run, erg and row triathlon benefiting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.  The event not only serves a great cause but provides an interesting format for all high school and junior rowers.  Up for grabs is the title of the “Fittest Crew in Florida”.  So if you think you are up for the challenge, please read the attached flyer for more information.

If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me.  We look forward to seeing you all in Tampa.

3rd annual Head of the Giblet - October Updates

We are less than 2 months from the Giblet !!

The event schedule on Regatta Central now shows event times.  We're trying to give you an enjoyable & full regatta AND have races done by 2 p.m.

We have added the middle school coxed 4x and middle school 8+ events to the schedule.  Highlights for these two events include:

est. 2250 meters (just under 1/2 of the 5000 meter course)

                ½ price entry fees ($40 for the 8+, $25 for the 4x)

All middle school participants receive a medal

All mixed events are at the end of the day (1-2 p.m.)  Although your rowers will only be able to participate in one mixed event, we hope this will create an enjoyable grand-finale to the day and allow most rowers to race in a mixed event.

The Turkey feet have been ordered!! We promise this year we will have a gold turkey foot trophy as all-points trophies (for Master and HS programs) and for first-place finishers in select events.  More details & which events receive trophies will be in the November update.  All events will receive 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals.

The Gobbler Sandwich is back & a Frozen Turkey will again be awarded to the top Master 1x (men and women).

Visit our Head of the Giblet Regatta FaceBook page for updates on awards, prizes and other exciting developments!

We look forward to seeing you on November 21!

As is tradition, Florida cheers on their own when outside our state. So if you are racing in Boston this weekend, please let me know the entry name and event. I’m putting together a list so we will know when to be on the lookout to cheer on our sunshine state competitors in what is looking to be a cold New England regatta. With wind chill, probably will be less than 50 degrees and not much sun. I’ll send the info collected Wednesday afternoon. Good luck and row fast.

Hi Brice,

I hope things are going well!  I have a question and I’m not sure if you can help.  I have been in contact with Morten Bjoern who has been living in Claremont, but recently moved to Miami.  He is a former Danish National Team athlete and through his connections has invited several athletes (4-, 4x, two 2x’s and 1x) to train in Central Florida.  They are currently in the area and are planning to go to the Gatorhead Regatta in Gainesville and have been borrowing boats from Jeff Border and Vespoli.  Currently, they have no way to get their boats to Gainesville and I saw on Regatta Central that several local high schools are going to the regatta.  Is there any way to contact FSRA or the local programs to see if they would have space/ability to trailer their boats?  I will also touch base with Jeff Border to see if he will be going to the Gatorhead.

His contact information is: Morten Bjoern - morten@..., 407-770-8537

I have also copied him on this email.

Thanks and I hope fall racing is treating you well!

Becky

Coaches & Competitors,

We are going to incorporate team blades into the 2009 Head of the Giblet shirt (November 21 & Turkey Lake Park).  Our entry deadline isn't until Friday November 13, however our artwork deadline is much earlier!!!

If you will be competing in the 2009 Head of the Giblet, and would like your blade to be included on the official regatta shirt, please let me know by Tuesday, November 3.  If you have already registered on Regatta Central, your blade(s) is/are taken care of.

Thank you,
Katie Davis

Please forward to all programs attending the Head of the Hooch Regatta.

The University of Tennessee @ Chattanooga will offer shower facilities on Saturday after the regatta

at a cost of $1 per person.  There are large facilities available in two buildings, so if there is enough

interest, there is more than enough space to accommodate teams.  The cost is $1 per person.  There

are no towels available, so you will need to bring your own towel to dry off.

Please contact Robert Espeseth at 423-425-5333 or at robert-espeseth@... for further

information and to make a reservation.  Everything has to be arranged by Monday, November 2nd.
