Coaches,
I was wondering how many days a week your rowers practice on water versus on land.
Just curious,

Hello all,

I would like to extend an invitation to all teams to come and join us
at Maclay's 2006 Ergomania on January 28. Registration is now open
via mail, packets can be downloaded from
http://www.maclaycrew.org/ergomania.htm .

This is a great opportunity to get your team's pre-season 2k tests
done in a highly competative environment giving them the best possible
results. Every spring season we at Maclay use Ergomania as a
benchmark for the rest of the season's training.

Hope to see you there,
      Yuval Peress.

Maclay Crew.

Subject: new high school girls crew team in Tampa

Hi Brice,

My name is Pete Young, I am the athletic director at the Academy of the Holy Names in Tampa. We are an all-girls high school that is starting a crew program. We have done a lot of background work and are establishing the AHN Rowing Club to support the program, and we hope to begin having practices in January. But as if yet we do not have a coach and have had virtually no leads.

I was hoping that you might be able to help us spread the word that we are looking for a coach, and I was also wondering if you had any suggestions for what else I could do to spread the word that we need a coach. I have placed an ad on row2k.com as well as on fhsaa.org and in the local papers, and I have contacted many people affiliated with local rowing programs, including at Plant, Tampa Catholic and Hillsborough Highs and at the University of Tampa, as well as with the Stewards Foundation, which oversees one of the local boathouses.

Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Pete Young, AD

As teams prepare for the last fall regatta this weekend in Gainesville, many are looking forward to their spring schedules. If you have not done so recently, you may want to check the FSRA spring schedule. Updates and corrections are being made weekly.

One change that may effect many is a date change for the Southern Erg Sprints. This year it is being held on a Saturday (Feb 4) instead of a Sunday.

Thanks, Brice

Hi Brice,

I hope you are getting ready for a wonderful Holiday Season.

I do not know if you are still involved with the website of rowing for the state of Florida, but if you are, will you please encourage the rowers of the great state of Florida to please get out and vote for two very important elections for USRowing the Constitutional Propositions votes that is currently going on and the election for the Boad of Directors and other committee members in January.

The Southeast needs to speak out especially since USRowing is now going in a new direction.  I will thank you for your support in getting this message out.

Thanks and have a wonderful day.

please vote in the latest USRowing amendment balloting.
(four amendments under consideration.)

These are organizational votes (not each individual member)
so your organization has to have their official delegate vote.

IF your organization did not vote,
have your delegate go to the USRowing website and get their delegate ballot

info.
There was an adjourned voting, which is now December 16th. in Chicago.
Complicated, but the bottom line is,
absentee ballots must be there by Dec.16th.

Local Contact: For directions or hotel information please contact or Chris at cdeatric@...

You may join or renew online at www.usrowing.org.

The Level I and II programs are an excellent way to introduce your new coaches, and those who have coached a season or two, to more information that will help them be safer and more effective coaches.

LEVEL I

Level I is a two-day program designed for someone who has never coached rowing before, such as a parent, teacher, or recent college grad. We recommend this program for all new coaches with less than one year of experience. Cost per participant is $125.

LEVEL II

Level II is a two-day program for a coach who has completed Level I and/or has been coaching for about a year. USRowing provides speakers to address the topics outlined in our manual. Cost for regional Level II clinics is $150 per participant.

Subject: Demo Days in Florida (Please post and boradcast) Thank you!

Hello all,

After many years as Director of Member Services with USRowing, I now am delighted to be working for a great, innovative boat company  - WinTech Racing.

I, along with your area WinTech sales representative, am hosting a series of Demo Days of our boats in Florida and would appreciate the opportunity to visit you and your rowing organization.  We can be there as early as January and through February and March.

We can bring almost any size and weight boats your crews and scullers would enjoy rowing; We have a complete line of sleek, affordable singles, doubles, pairs, quads, fours and eights. Depending on the time of year, we can try to bring along the weight and size boat your organization is looking into.

Please refer to our website at www.WinTechRacing.com for more details on each model.

We have a line of new, SELF-BAILING boats, so your team can row more comfortably and safely.

In addition to our racing shells,
we also manufacture solid and stable single and double Recreational boats and a VERY stable recreational/touring convertible quad/four-with.
Great boats for your novices, stable in bad weather for your racing rowers as well. A solid investment for your program.

Our company has a full line of various sizes of trailers, wakeless launches, and rowing accessories.
Our service and follow-thorough are peerless.

When may we come by for a Demo Day?
We'll work around your club's schedule, and we'll even bring coffee and bagels.

Our reps are VERY savvy at matching the right boats to the sculler or crew.
In order to provide the best service possible we would appreciate your help with providing the following information:
What dates may we visit you? Time of day?

Which size and weight boats would your organization like to try?

Who should I contact to confirm plans for the WinTech Demo Day for your organization?

The
telephone number? Email?

Thanks, very much.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
Happy Holidays to you all!

As we bring 2005 to a close, for the association again I would like thank our many sponsors. In the past 2 years many of you have made a big contribution to our sport by providing beautiful incentives for our young rowers to strive to achieve and push their limits. Without naming all the names as I am sure I would unintentionally forget one, I do want to thank the Stanton organization for making a very large donation of 5 trophies this past summer. Perhaps if other established teams that win events could follow their excellent example of good sportsmanship in our Florida rowing community, we could fill in the last few gaps.

Here is our wish list (the last baker's dozen):

Boy's JV 8 - youth - 2005 winner - Winter Park
Boy's 3rd 8 - scholastic - 2005 winner - Winter Park
Girl's 3rd 8 - scholastic - 2005 winner - Winter Park

Send Email Send Email

FSRA has many more regattas listed this year than year's past. Are you planning a spring regatta (including dual/tri-meets)? Are you planning on using the services of a USRowing referee? Have you communicated with a USRowing official to confirm referee coverage for your event? You need to ask for referees; they don't show up without prior arrangements.

If you want referee coverage and have not confirmed this with a USRowing Official, it is highly recommended you contact one of the following ASAP:

North Florida: Barbara L. Sanchez-Salazar - barbara@...
Central Florida: Marty Wiener - rowingref@...
South Florida: Jorge Salas - salascrew2000@...

They will help you get a chief referee assigned to your event. The chief referee can help you plan a safe and successful event, so don't delay.

Also, if any of the teams have parents or others who want to be licensed as referees, the SE Region is having a clinic/retreat at the Hampton Inn on Amelia Island Jan 28-29 and it would be a wonderful way to get started on that process. The SE Region needs more officials. If you know someone who wants to get involved, have them contact Dick Alcock, the Referee-Clinician for the US Rowing SE Region - dalcock1@...

Old Blues,

Some of you might know me, most of you probably don't. I was an Oxford
rower between 2002 and 4 in which time I won the spare pair race (03) and
the ISIS race in 2004. I have now re-located back to my home and moved on
past the erg workouts, early mornings, and vomiting. That said, I am still
active in the sport but now from a completely different angle. I am in the
process of creating an at-risk community outreach / rowing center. I am,
with the help of others, creating a sound business plan, solidifying
contacts, and doing my homework to make sure this center is a model for what

can be done for the community. That said, I require a little help to make
this all work. I have put together an on-line survey to help define what
the rowing publics perception on what is needed. I need your help. If you
could take the time to go to www.rowingsurvey.com and fill out and submit
the survey that would be awesome. If you could then forward it to others in

the rowing community that would be even better. I am looking to get over a
thousand replies in a months time and with everyone's help (and all ages and

rowing backgrounds are encouraged to reply) I think that is possible . If
you have any questions please let me know and I'll keep you informed of my
progress. I really appreciate you taking the time to get through all of
this and I hope you find my focus to be a worthy one, one which you can
embrace and help push through. In case you were wondering, I was talking to

Pete Bridge and he was the one that gave me all of your addresses. In the
event that you know others from Oxford that are not on this list please let
me know and I can then help Pete out by updating his list.

Thanks again and I really appreciate your help.

Cheers, Montana

Registration)]

Dear Paddlers,

The BAC Non-Motorized Vessels Subcommittee will meet on Tuesday, January 31,
2006 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the HILTON UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA, 1714 SW
34th Street, Gainesville, FL 32607.

The HILTON currently has the Committee scheduled in the meeting room
named, CENTURY B.

Attached is a copy of the agenda.

This subcommittee of the BAC (Boating Advisory Council) is looking into
the pros and cons of non-motorized vessel (canoes & kayaks included)
registration in the state of Florida. All are welcome to offer input.
If you cannot make the meeting, send me your ideas, opinions, etc. and
I'll be glad to pass them on.

The members of the BAC can be found at
http://myfwc.com/law/council/members.html . The subcommittee members
are Becky Bragg, Lisa Neal (chair), Jennifer Castle Field, William
Griswold, Richard Jones, Jessica Koelsch, Peggy Matthews, Edward
Seguna.

Registration Update: In December FWC reported they would not be
pursuing non-motorized vessel registration in the legislature this
year, but that doesn't mean the marine industry will not pursue it.
Brevard County Commissioners dropped canoe and kayak registration from
their resolution for support of FWC funding to be sent to the
legislature.

For more information see www.paddleflausa.com or contact myself on
registration info (email is best). For more meeting info contact

See you on the river!

I apologize for the mass mailing but it has come to our attention that the Central Florida school systems are blocking/filtering Yahoo sites. If you are in the greater Orlando area, please let us know if your team is getting these FSRA group emails.

Can anyone tell us the details of the school system filter/blocking criteria? This will help us determine if re-hosting the website will improve access.

Thanks, Brice

Brice,

Stanton is selling its 1998 big trailer (12 spaces/6 eights and 6 fours).  Manufactured by Northwood, it was upgraded in 2004 and is better than when new!

Asking $6,000.

Subject: Stanford University Summer Rowing Camps 06

Hi my name is Jon Allbin and I am the camp coordinator for Stanford University Rowing Camps. I wanted to forward a little note about our camp season this summer that I would ask you to forward on to your team and their parents.  We are proud of the camp and what we can offer our students:

  • Small boats rowing
  • scull and sweep rowing
  • core strength techniques
  • nutrition components to successful training
  • race strategy on the erg and on the water
  • the college recruitment process
  • insights/accounts from our college athletes into the collegiate rowing experience.

We are set up for the 2006 Summer and would like to encourage sign ups via our website on active.com or through a paper copy of the registration. Here is the link:

If you have any questions (and sorry for any confusion about the listing; we are in the listings on gostanford.com under camps just in case), give me a call.
thanks.

As we rapidly approach the start of our spring racing season, it is a good idea to make sure all the coxswains (and crew) know how to lock onto a stake boat. Nothing starts your team off on the wrong side of a referee faster than not being able to maneuver a boat in the starting area.

And while you are at it, make sure your novices know how to scull the bow around. Hopefully your returning crew already knows how.

I'll be watching...

Brice,

If you think anyone may be interested, please forward this to the group.  I think most of us tend to wonder where all our 7/16 wrenches go.  Here is a place where you can get them really cheap (84 cents each).  They get you on the shipping a bit (from CA), but if you get 20 or  more they are still less than $1.50 a piece.

the item # is ME0960-D
