Hi all,

We are looking to hold the annual meeting on Sept. 11th or 18th in Orlando depending on which day we can reserve a room. Sorry for delays but as you know Charley did a job there. Please check with your fellow coaches to make sure they are getting these updates.

I have updated the contact list for: Berkley Prep, Boone, Mel-Hi, and Space Coast. Still have a couple emails to go through. Keep them coming to make roll call easier.

I have not received any additional changes for the Constitution proposal. So what has been online since February will be what is voted on. Please make a copy for yourself.

I did get a suggestion for those paying FSRA membership after the 1st of the year be charged $200 instead of the $150 due at the meeting.

I also got a suggestion limit the Youth Championships to only the 14 championship events offered at Youth Nationals: boy's and girl's eights, lightweight eights, fours with coxswain, lightweight fours with coxswain, coxless quads, singles and doubles. Food for thought: this format might actually produce a real ranking for Florida teams, especially for those interested in Nationals. And it might shorten the race day for the last and most likely hottest regatta of the season. It might also encourage more sculling at the youth level which a growing number of coaches of colleges and beyond are asking high school and youth teams to consider. And finally, how many teams this past May could boat at least 31 rowers and 4 coxswains for both boys and girls without doubling and having alternates on standby? If everyone fully participates, be ready for 3 races in one day: heats, semis and finals.

I expect to have the meeting location information and agenda out next week.

Last thing, don't forget about serving on the FSRA board. Nominations are always welcomed.

Thanks, Brice.

As the new rowing year begins, I would like for you to know that Gainesville Area Rowing will again host the Gatorhead in Palatka, Florida.  We have moved the date from last year so that we wouldn't conflict with any other regattas.  This year the Gatorhead will be held on October 16.  We are hoping to see all of you there.  Please remember that the Gatorhead is a novice friendly course (no bridges).  What a great way to prepare your novices for the upcoming year as well as introducing the thrill of racing!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at acjmarsh@... .

I am looking for anyone that knows anyone that would
like 11-12 hotel
rooms at the Head of the Charles for Fri-Sun Nights
(number of nights
maybe negotiable) for $269 a night.

We are opting not to attend the Charles this year,
however, we have

Due to conflicts, etc., the annual FSRA coaches meeting will be held on September 25 noon to 4p in Orlando. Location to be determined after Hurricane Frances blows through. Take time to prepare for high winds especially in Central and North Florida. Even if your equipment is stored indoors, you should still strap down boats, oars, and anything else that might blow around. I would suggest rigging your boats; it is better than having the riggers blowing into your boats.

Good luck and take care.

Hi All,

Yes, the FSRA meeting is still planned for Saturday, Sept. 25, starting at noon. Sorry the location has not yet been finalized. Craig and Jamie are working this issue.

After the FIRA meeting this past weekend, Casey Baker of Florida Tech Crew told me he does not know of any college trailers making the trip to Boston. Those needing equipment moved should contact Stanton or Winter Park. Their travel details are listed below.

Winter Park will have a trailer heading to Boston next month.  I intend to leave around 3:00 pm Thursday and arrive late on Friday.  I'd like to be ale to leave Boston by early afternoon, so we probably can't take any boats racing in the championship 8 events.  Teams would need to be able to deliver and pick up their boats at our place.  Anybody that needs a ride should be prepared to have their boat(s) at our boathouse by Wednesday evening.  We'll have guys there to help with loading.

Coaches can contact me at 321 287-7089 or we can talk at the meeting next week.

Dear Brice,

Please let FSRA and any FIRA contacts you may have that Stanton will be taking a trailer.  The trailer will leave Weds. and arrive late Thursday, so equipment will be available for Friday practice.  Traditionally we have not been able to launch from Magazine Beach on Thursday.  This year all trailers will be at the Soldiers' Field end, so I assume the same rule will apply.

Anyone interested in hitching a ride with Stanton should contact

Although we have postponed the meeting, we can still work on agenda
items.

So far, I have received the following spring regatta dates (regattas
with ?? are still unknown)

Saturday, January 29 Maclay Ergomania
Sunday, February 6 22st Southern Sprints Indoor Regatta
Saturday, April 2 10th OARS Regatta (1500m)
Saturday, April 9 32nd Miami International Regatta (1500m)

Possible additional issue:
the issue of rowers switching teams during season is still part of
the revision to the by-laws (not allowed without approval of both
team's coaches and FSRA Exec Board). If the bylaws fail to be
approved, this will be an additional item for discussion.

We want to let all teams know that unfortunately, the Gatorhead has been canceled for this year.  First, when we originally set this date last spring, we had no idea that there was a Miami regatta planned for the same weekend.  We understand now that they have been doing this for years.  Secondly, the hurricanes have just set everyone back.  Water time has been slim for teams and damage has been high.  We hope everyone is safe and boats are in good shape as well.  Lastly, the riverfront in Palatka is not at it's best.  Although it could be used, we feel with all of the above reasons, it is best to cancel the Gatorhead for this year. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes you.

In trying to find a weekend for the upcoming years and not planning a regatta on an already established weekend (in Florida), we will be setting the Gatorhead on the same weekend as the Head of the Charles.  This way, those teams who will not be going to the Charles, or just sending one boat, will have a local option for a head race that weekend.  We hope this will work out well.  Mark your calendars for next year!  And of course, we hope to see you next spring at the Gainesville Crew Classic.

Respectfully,
Anne Marshall, Regatta Director
