Coaches and Friends of Oak Ridge Rowing,
I would like to give you a heads up about upcoming rowing education opportunities to be held in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. In addition to some other items of interest that you might want to know about.
The Foundation for Rowing Education, and the Oak Ridge Rowing Association will be working together to host the first of many clinics for the coaches, coxswains and athletes of the rowing community Southeast, Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions. If you would like to attend any of these clinics please go to http://www.rowingeducation.org, read the attached flier and mark you calendar to attend.
Oak Ridge Rowing is raising the bar from just being a regatta venue and a local rowing club to a multi-region human powered sports center. The site will continue to host and improve on top level events as it has done for over 30 years. The center being developed will be used for training and educating the human power sport communities of Rowing, Cycling, Kayak, Canoe, Swimming, Running and many others. In areas of safety, officiating, technique, coaching, launch driving and several other topics. FISA identified the site in 2005 to be developed as a training center for this very purpose, ORRA is now making it a reality with the help of the East Tennessee community and your support. Oak Ridge is uniquely located to serve three of the largest regions of the United States. As well as a days driving distance from a majority of the East Coast as well as the central areas of the country. More details to follow...
The event calendar is beginning to shape up for 2009 with several racing opportunities of local, regional and national importance close to home for you. The 2009 ORRA tentative event calendar will be posted by September 1, 2008. ORRA will need volunteer assistance with some of the events in 2009. If you would like to volunteer to be part of the regatta operations, we would greatly appreciate it. Please check out the new ORRA website which has been just reworked. Several areas are still undergoing updating. I’m working to correct that too.
ORRA will continue to produce adult and youth rowing teams. The newest change in Oak Ridge Rowing is the new look of the Junior program into ATOMIC ROWING. This is a move to broaden the appeal of rowing to larger pool of youth athletes in the Knoxville and Oak Ridge Metro area.
Lastly, I wanted to inform all of you, my friends, about my newest arrival, Evelyn Annemarie Eubanks. She was born July 15, 2008. She and Ethan are keeping Candace and I very busy. You will see both of them at regattas this fall.
If you would like to removed from the ORRA Update list please let me know. With a reply and remove in the subject line. It is not my intent to flood you multiple messages on a regular basis but to keep you informed on opportunities in the Southeast Region and beyond.
