This has been making it's way through the collegiate circuit... just wanted the high school coaches to be aware also.

Subject: Scams
Hello, coaches
I just wanted to warn you of an internet scam revolving selling used equipment. The scammer will respond to classified ads for your used equipment. Most often they are responding from a foreign country. Most likely, Nigeria or the UK. They will negotiate a price for your equipment and ask you to wire funds to their "shipping agent". For instance, if you are selling oars for $1000, they will ask if they can send you a money order for $2000 and have you wire $1000 to the shipper. The money order is usually bogus and definitely counterfit. You will also notice that these people do not use very good english in their e-mails.
I am sending you this information because we have had two separate "people" try this scam on us. Here is what your inquiery may look like:
"I am gonna send my shipping agents to come pick them up.I will be sending you $2000 ...so after you have deducted the amount for my purchase you will be sending the balance funds to my shipping agents"
"Immedaitely you send the money to the shipping agents .....the oars will be picked up the next day...so after you cash the money orders ..i want you to immedaitely send the balance funds to the shipping agents and the oars will be pciked up today.I have already provided the spickup address and name.
Fortunately, we researched where the money orders came from and learned they were counterfit. Currently, we have an e-mail from someone who has no clue about boats, saying he is from East London and wants to buy an old junker for an unreasonable amount of money. Just beware.
sincerely, John
