Subject: It Got Their Attention
Dear Friends
Your faxes, phone calls and e-mails were a roaring success. The over heard
conversation:
Pam-Slater Price to Sheri Lightner, "I received 93 faxes this morning."
Sheri Lightner to Pam -Slater Price, "I've got you beat."
Both acknowledged the deluge hitting their respective offices. Someone heard
Lightner saying the number of faxes had put her in a bad mood.
Kidding or not the point made was everyone helped get their attention on the
issue dear to our hearts. The attendance by Mtn Bikers at a two pm meeting on a
work day downtown was exemplary. Literally every single person there stood up
and spoke. It was awesome to hear the degree of articulation that was presented.
Everyone was spot on with their facts and there were some touching moments when
personal experiences were shared about how magical a ride through Tunnels can
be.
Surprise of surprises there was an equestrian who was 100% supportive of
rejecting the RMP in favor of the SDMBA Loop based trail network proposal. In
fact you would be proud of her retort to one of the CAC members who said Tunnels
will only deteriorate under use by trail users. The equestrian pointed out that
since Tunnels has been used it has never looked better, I believe she said it
looks pristine compared to how we found it after years of migrant habitation.
The Deer Canyon clean up by Mtn Bikers was mentioned.
The fact that the East West Connector could be possible without going on DFG was
brought up. In other words stop using the DFG as the excuse an East West
Connector can't happen. No action on the RMP Plan was taken at this meeting
today. That will occur later after another meeting with Parks and Rec. That date
and place will be announced and sent out to everyone attending todays Task Force
Meeting. So count on being kept up to date.
The number of participants at the Park View Elementary School was estimated at
200, a number that raised the eyebrows of the politicians present. One of the
comments was "the people have spoken and we want our representatives to listen."
That was just one comment out of many that struck a chord during this exercise
in civics.
Cutting to the chase, last night was great, today's City Hall Task Force meeting
was good and the letter writing campaign was over the top.(Because no one waited
for the other guy to shoulder the burden or took the "My vote doesn't matter"
path.
Great Job Rich
