Dear Parents and Friends of the FM High School Crew Team:

As many of you are probably aware, the FM crew team has enjoyed tremendous growth and support since its inception three years ago, In order to accommodate the team’s growth, the parents of rowers, coaches and school representatives have worked hard to allow for expansion to 100 rowers, and to develop the concept of a JV team. Unfortunately, although the plan is to go forward with the formation of a JV team, the previously established school budget does not allow for financial support of this concept. Therefore, the parent support group (the Crewster’s) has been charged with this responsibility to raise the necessary funds for the upcoming season. This amounts to approximately ten thousand dollars more than the Crewsters have already saved. Thus, we are asking you to consider making a tax-deductible donation to assist in this campaign to establish JV team.

So why does the FM High School need a JV team? The answer is quite simple. First, and foremost, it will allow the team to accommodate its numbers without significant “cuts”. Without a JV team, upwards of 50% of the participants will be “cut” after the first year. Since one of the founding principles of the FM Crew team supports inclusion with minimal “cuts”, this is obviously unacceptable.  This will also bring the FM Crew team in line with other FM High School sports. Presently 21 of the 30 FM High School varsity sports offer JV teams.

Another
reason to support a JV team is to allow athletes the opportunity to develop at a reasonable pace in anticipation for varsity participation. For those who are not aware, a rower cannot participate at the novice level for more than one year. Therefore, in the current team model, most of the sophomore and junior athletes will not be able to participate past their freshman year unless they are one of the very few chosen for the varsity boats.

Please take this opportunity to support a great program.  Please return the donation portion of the next page with your generous contribution.

Again, your donation is tax- deductible. Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Dr. Richard Konys,

Vice President
