Re: Testimonials Letters Regarding Crew
Dear Fellow Crewsters,
I hope that you and your family have enjoyed a happy and healthy summer.
The Syracuse Chargers are in the initial phase of soliciting money for a new boathouse which would be available for use by the Fayetteville- Manlius Crew program. [No I am not going to ask you for any money.] The new boathouse is badly needed. The Chargers and its participating high schools have outgrown the Chargers present facility. There are presently 17 boats owned by the Chargers that do not fit into the current undersized structure.
As part of its presentation to institutional funding sources the Chargers need to explain through testimonial letters from parents and students the importance which crew has meant to them and their family. [These letters may also be used at a later time by the Crewsters in discussions with the F- M District as evidence of the positive impact that the sport of rowing has on the F- M students.]
I would also appreciate any letter a crew coach may provide about what positive effect they have witnessed in the kids they have coached.
During the past 3 years I have heard a number of heartwarming stories from students, parents and coaches which reinforce my belief that crew is more than just a vehicle to maybe do in college. In my opinion the importance of Crew at F- M is best evidenced by the kids who never participated in sports or who were cut by a more traditional sport team. Crew has provided the aforementioned students with an opportunity to gain the team experience and sense of belonging to their high school that would not have otherwise be available to them. Crew has meant a lot to many people.
As a favor, please, please, please take a moment to have your son or daughter and/ or you to write a short testimonial note about what Crew has meant. You may mail or e-mail your testimonial back to me and if requested I will delete your name when your letter is submitted.
Please take this request seriously because in the Chargers early discussions with potential funding sources it is apparent that most in the Onondaga County community have no awareness of just how important crew has been to teens in out county.
Similar requests are being made by the Chargers of the parents and students of other participating high school programs.
If you have any questions please call me.
Thank you for your assistance and cooperation.
Best wishes.
