Straight up Longdong Ave in the bike lane as nobody uses it at that time in the morning, over onto Longdong access road down to Renmintang Road past the golf course and up behind the airport, past the drink stop on straight road all the way to Lingang Avenue and Dishui Lake. Blast around the lake, stop for a quick drink and then back home the same way.
Cheers

A bunch of us left the GC at 7.15 on Saturday and we turned right off Longdong at the last major road before the A30. It got pretty messy with traffic and narrowing roads at one point but we made it to the Drink Stand eventually. Just wondered which way you went? Did you sneak onto the A30 or find an alternative ? Jacob - sorry you couldnt join us. Pierre advised you started out from Puxi but became too sore. Steve (from Coca Cola) hope you made it back OK. We waited for you and back tracked but never found you?

Ive found that Decathalon have some quite reasonable gear at pretty good prices
(particularly if you are waiting for your good gear to arrive). They have a
pretty good range of winter cycling clothes in stock. There is one in JinQiao
just next door to MegaFit Gym. Im sure there would be others but Im not sure
where they are.

Hi Boys and Girls,
If anyone is interested there will be a few of us going to ride up to Dishu Lake and back as part of our regular winter training ride. This will be at a steady moderate pace. You are welcome to come along.
Meeting place German Centre at 5:55am role out at 6:00am sharp.
Dear All,
Despite the chilly weather, we had 15 brave riders show up at 7:15 at the German
Center today. Fortunately the weather warmed up nicely through the ride, I was
quite warm by the end.
Today we tried a new route, turning right from Long Dong at the intersection
before the A30 (chuan-nan-feng road). Not a great road, I don't think this is
the route we will settle on. Medium but steady pace. After a short stop at the
drink stand, we rode the A30 back into the wind, but with Simon at the front of
course the pace was not slow.
Sunday meeting at the German Center at 7:15. I plan to experiment with new
routes again. Pudong New Area map folded and in the back pocket.
Finally, despite the cold weather and hats coming out, please note that all
riders are expected to wear helmets on all FHL rides.
Allen
Tore,
I will be riding at 7:15 this Saturday. Not sure which route yet and how fast I
can ride with all the extra clothes...
Allen

No bother mate. I just hope those meds aren't making you too sensitive ;-) Just so you know Jacob if you post to this list, like you have just done, 380 people around the world get it. This is the FHL group email. I have been in the rooms for a few weeks but not the same room you are in. To be honest I have found some spin classes that are pretty good for what I want and they are local to me. By the way, I have been in Thailand and Hawaii for the past 6 weeks (poor me), back here now, can't stand the cold so I'm off to Thailand again December 1 for a month or so. Gotta work on the tan mate plus I prefer Cycling in shorts ;-)
Get well soon and we'll see you on the road in one piece.

My name is Thomas, I have been riding in Shanghai for the last 4 years (already!) I would be glad to give you any recommendation or tips you need to know about cycling in SH! For info, some of us ride pretty often with the Specialized riders club. www.s-riders.com
They mainly organize MTB trip, but also road bike trip / road bike ride near shanghai. We are talking here about a BIKECLUB, not a bike tour company! The club has now more than 80 members and is very active.
Each ride is a lot of fun! Some of the FHL guys has already joined some S trip, you can ask them! More info about life in Shanghai, cycling in SH or anything else, contact me .

Hi Calvan,
your office jiangning road is near my place. I found a park near here that i do my laps in the morning or late evernings (about 4.4km/lap)
Although PUDONG Area is more cycling-friendly and this FHLShanghaiCycling group's laps are done in a park near there, it's on the other side (river separating them from your office place). Depending on the exact location of your office, you might have to commute again after taking the subway.
You can choose Pudong area or if you want to be a little bit near your office, and also close to another park, then choose ZHABEI area
Warm Regards,

Hi,
I get your contact from Li Geng Mu from the Trek store. I understand that you guys are cyclist and hope you can give me some advice.
I am amatuer road bike cyclist, who like to work, cycle and have fun. My wife and I are moving to Shanghai in the mid of December. I plan to continue to cycle when I am in Shanghai. As far as apartment search and location, which side is better Puxi vs Pudong? My office location is in Jiangning Road, Puxi. I don't mind to do some travelling to work via the subway system. Ideal apartment location will be easy accessible to food, some cycling in the am(before go to work) and cycling in the weekend too.
By the way, do you guys organize cycling trip during weekend?
Look forward to hear from you.

your office jiangning road is near my place.

Hi Gad,
No. I do not plan to cycle to work. Plan to cycle a bit in the am for some training and weekend ride. I won't mind travel via Metro/subway for about 30mins to work.

Hi,
I get your contact from Li Geng Mu from the Trek store.
Regards

I rode alone last Sat afternoon to try to discover the new route. At the
junction of Long dong ave and A30 I went straight and found it was a part of
JP's northeast endurance training route we used to ride two years ago... And
the road condition is fairly good until the light rail bridges apeared, it
became dusty and muddy with some construction trucks passing by... A locked
gate unpredictablely appeared which was same as the one near the airport, I
successfully talked the guard into openning the gate for me as this is the only
way I know leading to the Chao Yang town where the supermarket located. Then
the same old route along the sea wall, windy and quiet, no traffic at all and
long enough to set a steady pace, and the road was good. I went back the same
way, total distance 70k. If start from the GC, and go back along JP's route to
the northeast Gaoqiao & Caolu, the distance will be around 100k. The only
difficulty is to cross the locked gate.

Dear All,
How did last weekend's ride go? New route, or sneak on to the A30?
Looks like a cold weekend coming up...I will be digging out the booties and
riding.

Four of us went out last
Saturday from the GC at 7:15. Cold and overcast day. Did not go on
the A30 but went straight ahead on Longdong over the A30. We took the
first right and followed it passed the links golf course. Heaps of dogs,
not good for cycling as a dog caused me to break my collar bone when riding in
the same area 4 months ago, so it was slow riding. Ended up not far from
the concrete batching plant that was near the airport that we used to ride
passed in the old day, where the real broken up road was. We could not get
through to the road near the airport that runs along the canal because they
gated it off and coincidently closed it off to through traffic the day
before. The road from Longdong was busy and quite muddy in parts, not a
road you would want to ride at speed on.
We came back the same way
but turned west at the road we used to take starting at the seaside resort (if
you can picture where) and rode over the A30. We turned right just after
crossing the A30 and it brought us out at the lights on Longdong just before we
go onto the A30 on the way out.
I’ll get my driver
to take me to work on an exploration route tomorrow morning and see what I can
find for a decent ride and let you know.

I'm still a collage student living in school apartment. So I really don't have much knowladge about where to rent a house. One thing I'm sure to tell you is Pudong is much cycling friendly. And in Shanghai it's cold and often rains these days.
You may email to fhlshanghaicycling@yahoogroups.com and ask them about where to rent a house. They are grown ups and also have a family.
Our club organize weekend bike trip every week. Info are posted in store.

Yes it is closed. We can either ride straight to east to the sea wall, or risk
ourselves to ride A30 pretending we don't know it's closed...

Yes 4 of us will be meeting at GC at 7.15. Not too sure where we will ride
since A30 is now closed I believe,
Kevin.

We are working our butts off on our calendar - the 14th race is there with (hopefully) all the details.
Have a look at our Events Calendar here and please always send us races you hear about and we will upload within
