Subject: 2008 Bike Plan Revision - Council needs NEEDS to hear from you

Fort Collins City Council needs to hear from you about approving the 2008 Bike Plan Revision Tuesday, October 7 at City Council meeting (Please come to the meeting if you can:  6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall West, 300 Laporte Avenue.)

Just cut and paste their addresses and send off a quick note:

David Roy, Ben Manvel, Diggs Brown, Wade Troxel, Lisa Poppaw, Kelly Ohlson, Mayor Doug Hutchinson

droy@...; bmanvel@...; dbrown@...; wtroxel@...; lpoppaw@...; kohlson@...; dhutchinson@...

Key points:

Please approve the 2008 bike plan revision
Please create a Citizens Bicycle Advisory Committee
Let’s aim for a Platinum level bike friendly community award in 2012
Ask Parks Dept. to think about a Velodrome

The background:

Three years ago City Council members received 200 e-mails in support of funding a half-time bicycle coordinator in Fort Collins.  That was the largest number of e-mail messages ever received by Council on any single issue up until that time.  The result was:

-          unanimous approval of funding a half-time bike coordinator for two years; this resulted in

-          the bike coordinator, in cooperation with Bike Fort Collins pulling in $200,000 in contracts;

-          a full time bike coordinator now for 2008-2009;

-          a Safe Routes to School program;

-          the Bike Co-op moving into City space at $5/year rent;

-          the Fort Collins Bike Library (now with 1700 patrons; 96 bikes; and around 1100 bikes checked out so far)

-          a GOLD LEVEL designation as a Bicycle Friendly Community as of September 25th (after 6 years at silver)

Council needs to hear from you again.  You don’t have to say a lot.  You just need to let them know that you’d like them to approve the 2008 Bike Plan.
