Sad news that the Thin Air Head in Boulder will not be happening this fall. That will be missed, since those of us who attended last year had a wonderful experience rowing at that event, and getting to know folks in the other Colorado crews.
On the bright side: this makes the Horsetooth Ache event on Saturday, Oct 6, hosted by Fort Collins Rowing Assn all that more significant for us and all Colorado rowers! Look for a notice shortly on the upcoming Organizing PARTY.

Hi Molly,
Well, it looks like the Thin Air Head might not happen this
year! The Boulder Reservoir folks are increasing their fees and tightening ship with management and are making it a bit more logisitically difficult for us to make it happen this year...
So I'm awfully sorry! We're disappointed, but we're going to plan for it for 2008. Stay tuned for that next fall and thank you for your interest! Best,
Nicole Duryea Boulder Community Rowing, Board Member Colorado Junior Crew, Assoc. Coach
Please pass the attached announcement along to anyone who might be interested!!!
Also, if you have time -- please feel free to drop the announcement off at places around town. Let's get the word out! The money raised during the open water day will go toward new equipment and maintenance of existing boats for next season!!
Thanks :)

straight lanes with a stakeboat start. We are fortunate to have two experienced referees to keep us in line, Don Craig from Topeka and Kevin Little from Parker. Medals will be awarded for first and second place in each event.
Please be certain of your races before entering them online, because only the regatta administrator can make changes. The entry fee is $31 per person, which includes the regatta t-shirt. Racing will be 7:00 a.m. to noon, followed by a barbecue lunch.

All,
I was just over at Water Valley and the directions I
gave you are fine IF you arrive before 8:00 am. The
organizers told me they are closing the entrance from
7th St. and County Road 17 at 8:00 or shortly before.
Therefore, if you happen to arrive after that time or
have spectators coming, here is another way to get
there:
* I-25 to HWY 34 exit (towards Greeley)
* Take HWY 34 to HWY 257 (Windsor exit)
* Head towards Windsor (North)
* Take a LEFT on CROSSROADS BLVD - you should see a
sign that says WATER VALLEY SOUTH ENTRANCE
* After your are on Crossroads Blvd., take a quick
left and a quick right and go straight until you see
the entrance to the parking area on the right.
Here's my cell phone if you need help, I'll try to
answer it: 970-402-2292.

Hey Rowers, anyone want a road trip? Rowing on the brine would be surreal fun. I dont think it is limited to juniors.
I don't have a junior crew assembled for this but if any of you introduce me to interested juniors I would be glad to coach them and go to this race.

We met briefly in Boulder at the Sprints. I am one of the coaches of Utah Junior Crew. We are hosting a fun race on the Great Salt Lake on May 12th called the Brine Shrimp Sprints. Most of our competition is local rowers from the Salt Lake area, The Waterford School(private school) and our very own Utah Junior Crew. We race fours, doubles, eights, quads and whatever else people want to jump into. It's a ton of fun. All participants get a t-shirt with their registration and I think this year we are ordering some snazzy Henley style t-shirts. Yes, I'm trying to entice you and your crew with crew garb. It works for our kids!
If you and your crew are interested in coming to Salt Lake for the race, we would be happy to lend you equipment and host your rowers at other rowers' homes. It's like a big slumber party and the kids always bond and have tons of fun.
Let me know if you and your crew are interested as soon as possible and we can start making arrangements. The race would start on Saturday, May 12th and we would be finished around noon.

Hi Everyone, Here's the latest word on the Boulder Sprints event! The Collegiate competition will be held at Union Reservoir. The Masters and Junior Competition will be held April 14 morning at Boulder Rez.
Don't forget to check out our website (www.fcrowing.com) to see the Learn to Row class schedule that starts in May!.

Boulder Sprints are this Saturday!
Jim
Boulder Sprints – April 14th, 2007
Collegiate Races will be held on a 2K course at Union Reservoir.
Masters and Junior Events will be held on a 1K course at Boulder Reservoir.
While many BCR'ers will be out of town and not able to attend, it appears that we will have about a dozen BCR plus another dozen from RMCC, a handful from Ft. Collins and a bunch (40+) Juniors from CJC and Utah. Juniors will be racing against Masters in some events and we may mix a few masters and juniors together in some boats to fill seats.
This will be a very fun, casual regatta. A great way to get back on the water, experience a bit of race adrenaline and show support for rowing in our mile high region.
Tentative Masters/Juniors Schedule (Registration at 8:00AM):
9:00 AM Mens 8+ 9:20 Womens 1x
9:40 Mens 1x—might need to run a second group at 9:50 10:00 Womens 8+ 10:20 Mens 2x 10:40 Womens 2x 11:00 Mens 4x (yup, pretty close to the 2x) 11:20 Womens 4x 11:40ish Mixed 8+
The Larimer County Parks Master Plan Task Force is meeting at 5:30pm Tuesday April 10th in the Boyd Lake Hearing Room of the county courthouse office building, 200 W. Oak St in Fort Collins. The major projects listed for Horsetooth Reservoir that could include our boathouse (?) are the Swim beach, East shore and Event center, South Bay. The meeting closes at 7:30.
It would be to our benefit as a collective rowing group (all non-motorized paddlers included) to attend this final meeting. We don't need to say anything at the meeting, but our presence will make a difference. Most of the board knows who we are, but if you haven't been introduced, wear something to make yourself visible as a rower.
Hi Folks, The April 14 CU crew race location has changed -- it's now at Union Reservoir. Masters and Junior racing starts at noon.
Union is much closer to Fort Collins! I don't know what the implications are for having boats to borrow, but with the closer location, maybe some additional people would be interested in going, and we could figure out how to get the quad and a double down there?!
As of now I believe we have 4 masters women planning on going, and two guys from Cheyenne will be coming down.

Jim, Unlike past years CU is not putting on an event for masters and juniors. We are holding a race in the morning vs. OCU. We will leave our course in for the remainder of the day and each group (masters + juniors) can run their own racing. We have moved the race to Union Res. so we can get a full 2k. I have not talked with Grace about CJC vs. Utah Juniors but Anaya doesn't know what the plans are. I have filled out the permits for Union res. and will put in the course Friday afternoon and remove it Sunday. We will be using it on Saturday until noon. We
will leave our launches for your use and may be able to help officiate your races if you need. Keep me posted on your racing plans.

Rocky Mountain Rowing Club and Ft. Collins Rowing Association!
CU is hosting the Boulder Sprints at the Boulder Rez on Saturday 4/14.
The format will be College Heats before noon, with Masters Heats
starting at noon, then Juniors after that.
This is a nice way to get started on the season with 1000 meter side by
side racing.
I am going to send out an announcement to BCR membership and will cc you
so you can send it to your membership as well.
At this time I need to get some information to CU about what Masters
events we may want to hold. BCR will likely field the following:
1x M/F
2x M/F
4+ M/F
8+ M/F/Mixed
You are welcome to use any of our 8's and 4's as well has help fill
seats in boats if it means getting them out on the water. We should
have 3 8's, 2 4+'s, 1 2x and a couple of singles ready to use. If you
can bring any other equipment, say another 4+, 4x, 2x then we may be
able to add a couple more events:
4x?
Please get back to me ASAP if you think there will be interest in these
races and if you have a guesstimate about how many rowers and what
equipment you might be able to bring.
It will be great to see you all and we hope to get more of these
mini-regattas going this year.
Thanks,
Jim
