Boulder Sprints are this Saturday!
Jim
Boulder Sprints – April 14th, 2007
Collegiate Races will be held on a 2K course at Union Reservoir.
Masters and Junior Events will be held on a 1K course at Boulder Reservoir.
While many BCR'ers will be out of town and not able to attend, it appears that we will have about a dozen BCR plus another dozen from RMCC, a handful from Ft. Collins and a bunch (40+) Juniors from CJC and Utah. Juniors will be racing against Masters in some events and we may mix a few masters and juniors together in some boats to fill seats.
This will be a very fun, casual regatta. A great way to get back on the water, experience a bit of race adrenaline and show support for rowing in our mile high region.
Tentative Masters/Juniors Schedule (Registration at 8:00AM):
9:00 AM Mens 8+ 9:20 Womens 1x
9:40 Mens 1x—might need to run a second group at 9:50 10:00 Womens 8+ 10:20 Mens 2x 10:40 Womens 2x 11:00 Mens 4x (yup, pretty close to the 2x) 11:20 Womens 4x 11:40ish Mixed 8+
The Larimer County Parks Master Plan Task Force is meeting at 5:30pm Tuesday April 10th in the Boyd Lake Hearing Room of the county courthouse office building, 200 W. Oak St in Fort Collins. The major projects listed for Horsetooth Reservoir that could include our boathouse (?) are the Swim beach, East shore and Event center, South Bay. The meeting closes at 7:30.
It would be to our benefit as a collective rowing group (all non-motorized paddlers included) to attend this final meeting. We don't need to say anything at the meeting, but our presence will make a difference. Most of the board knows who we are, but if you haven't been introduced, wear something to make yourself visible as a rower.
Hi Folks, The April 14 CU crew race location has changed -- it's now at Union Reservoir. Masters and Junior racing starts at noon.
Union is much closer to Fort Collins! I don't know what the implications are for having boats to borrow, but with the closer location, maybe some additional people would be interested in going, and we could figure out how to get the quad and a double down there?!
As of now I believe we have 4 masters women planning on going, and two guys from Cheyenne will be coming down.

Molly,
I just got confirmation
that the races have moved to Union and the course will be a 2k. I'll send you more info on the Master's plans as soon as I can.
Thanks, Jim

Jim, Unlike past years CU is not putting on an event for masters and juniors. We are holding a race in the morning vs. OCU. We will leave our course in for the remainder of the day and each group (masters + juniors) can run their own racing. We have moved the race to Union Res. so we can get a full 2k. I have not talked with Grace about CJC vs. Utah Juniors but Anaya doesn't know what the plans are. I have filled out the permits for Union res. and will put in the course Friday afternoon and remove it Sunday. We will be using it on Saturday until noon. We
will leave our launches for your use and may be able to help officiate your races if you need. Keep me posted on your racing plans.

This Saturday March 24, from 9am to noon we're planning a "work day" at the boathouse.
Next Saturday March 31 we're also planning a work session at the boathouse from 11am to 4pm followed by the Club Spring Party at the Boathouse (4pm-6pm) (weather Permitting).
The work sessions will involve Boat repair, boathouse cleaning, Launch driving training on both days.

Rocky Mountain Rowing Club and Ft. Collins Rowing Association!
CU is hosting the Boulder Sprints at the Boulder Rez on Saturday 4/14.
The format will be College Heats before noon, with Masters Heats
starting at noon, then Juniors after that.
This is a nice way to get started on the season with 1000 meter side by
side racing.
I am going to send out an announcement to BCR membership and will cc you
so you can send it to your membership as well.
At this time I need to get some information to CU about what Masters
events we may want to hold. BCR will likely field the following:
1x M/F
2x M/F
4+ M/F
8+ M/F/Mixed
You are welcome to use any of our 8's and 4's as well has help fill
seats in boats if it means getting them out on the water. We should
have 3 8's, 2 4+'s, 1 2x and a couple of singles ready to use. If you
can bring any other equipment, say another 4+, 4x, 2x then we may be
able to add a couple more events:
4x?
Please get back to me ASAP if you think there will be interest in these
races and if you have a guesstimate about how many rowers and what
equipment you might be able to bring.
It will be great to see you all and we hope to get more of these
mini-regattas going this year.
Thanks,
Jim

Wouldn't a shiny RED Speed Coach look nice stuffed in your stocking or under your tree this holiday season?
I'm selling my used one - low milage. Works great, comes with the instruction manual. If your boat is not wired, you'd need to get that separately from NK. It's a great motivator out on the water and really works to keep you honest - are you really consistent? is that perceived effort true? Take the guessing out of your training - and see how those water meters add up!
I'm selling it for only $125. New they go for $199 plus shipping and that other hooey.
Please contact me at dmccabe@... or 303-998-1248 if interested.

I looked at the last email from the larimer county parks and it
indicated that the time frame for the master plan is: October-
december'06 =formulate the final plan. February '07-implement the
final plan. So we shold know fairly soon how the county plans to
incorporate rowing in it's plans.
Here's some photos from this morning's Horsetooth Ache Regatta. Thanks
to Ft. Collins Rowing for putting on a nifty little regatta!
The day begins with a beautiful sun rise, and a gorgeous full moon -
and look at these happy rowers!

This is the first 8+ on Horsetooth Reservoir in 16 years! People are
pretty excited!
The view from the coxswain seat- rowers happy that the 78 minute race

no, this is not photoshop
Just a beautiful day for this beautiful crew.
Another successful BCR road trip! It was good to see our rowing
neighbors, and great to have a nice little race to go to right up the
street. Fun day, fun times, good memories! And this year, perfect
weather! I'm glad so many were able to make it - and appreciate
everyone that pitched in to help make it happen.
Deb
Thanks to CSU, members of FCRA, and supporters, this year's Horsetooth Ache was a big success! We had 38 rowers and 10 boats! (some boats rowed twice) Boulder Community Rowing brought 16 people for the big event! Thanks Boulder! (please pass this on...)
Everyone was a winner! Seriously, everyone received 1st place in their class!
We have a few more long sleeved t-shirts available if anyone is interested please email me at gdnthyme@...
Attention all members, wanna-be rowers and by-standers!
This Saturday is the annual HorsetoothAche regatta, hosted by local Fort Collins Rowing! Racing starts at 7:00 am at Satanka Cove!
We are asking all supporters/members to support the club and this great event!
Bring a breakfast snack for the participants (box of granola bars, bag of fruit, etc) and your name will be entered into a drawing for a FREE t-shirt! Be a part of this exciting event that only happens once a year!
I wanted to thank you all for coming to the 2nd annual Thin Air Head
this past Saturday at the Boulder Reservoir. Thank goodness Mother
Nature waited at least a little while to show her blustery face this
year and we were able to run 18 of 25 events. The results of the races
are attached. Please share them with the rest of your club.
I'd also like to extend a huge thanks to all the volunteers who made
this event possible, especially our Chief Air Head, Cristine Milton.
Without all her organizing and planning, and all of your dedicated work
before and during the event, we would never have been able to make it
happen. Thank you.
I hope you all had good races, a fun time, and will plan to join us
again next year!
