here is an opportunity to get your winter erg training jump-started...
the workshop will be held at one of the local crossfit gyms. we'll talk about erg drills, workouts and developing training plans (especially if you are interested in training for mile high sprints!)
I'm going to try the online rowing/Concept2 "Holiday Challenge" this
year....Anyone interested? Surely I'm not the only one having a hard time
getting motivated on the erg!
Here are the details and website:
* Create a (free) online logbook at the Concept2 website
* Row 100,000 meters or 200,000 meters between November 26 (U.S. Thanksgiving)
and midnight December 24
* You do not need to be on a team to participate! Log your individual meters
(but maybe we could participate as a team??)
* Record meters rowed in online logbook
* Row 100K, and raise money for a good cause! For every person who rows at least
100k during the challenge, Concept2 will donate $.02 per kilometer (1000 meters)
rowed to your choice of the following organizations: Oxfam International, Slow
Food USA, Feeding America or The Center for an Agricultural Economy.

Yup, rented a 15-person van from UHaul. The painter's racks used to be stored in the back of one of the storage containers.

CSU needs to borrow or rent heavy duty vantop Racks to carry boats.
Please respond if you have ideas or a rack.
I recall a van with good racks was used to transport the quad to a regatta a few years back.

Great idea. I'll be there at 545, and can bring an erg, but I need to leave by 710. Does anyone have room in their vehicle to pack up my erg when the event ends? Is there room for coffee, pumpkin bread, and hot cider? I can also bring a folding table!
haven't been on my erg in ohhhh ummmm awhile...but looking forward to the morning :)

Let me know by 10 tonite if you want me to bring the erg (and someone can transport it home)!
I will have some GREAT rowing Schwag for sale! Pendants, shirts, and more shirts OH MY!

Subject: FCRowing: Cancelled Horsetooth Ache
Hi Everyone, It is with sadness that I announce we are cancelling the 2009 Horsetooth Ache event which was scheduled for tomorrow morning.
The weather prediction is for temperatures of 20C at 6am and 25C at 9am, which brings into question the capability of our safety launches to perform as needed. (In addition the weather is predicting "ice pellets"!!!!)
Please forward to RMRC, BCR, CSU and the Grey Rock Rowing (FC's youth rowing) clubs.

Just letting you know we plan on hosting the regatta- snow or not! We’ll have hot coffee ready by 615a, stainless steel ‘FC rowing’ water bottles and lunch after the row (for registered rowers), as well as rowing gear for sale from Sew Sporty.
Of course if the wind acts up (it is not predicted to), we’ll have to evaluate the safety factors of going forward with the race.BUT if you haven’t rowed on glass flat water and with snow gently falling on it… you’re in for an experience (if that is the weather situation on Saturday)! It is actually pretty awesome….
this is from the larimer county parks and recreation website:
Beginning October 1, 2009, boat launching will only be available Friday's, Saturday's, and Sunday's between the hours of 7 am - 5 pm. Boating will not be allowed Monday - Thursday.
The boat ramps at Satanka, Inlet Bay and the north boat ramp of South Bay are still available for use.

Jeff just drove up there to check it out.........we knew the road was closed, but there is a sign on the north ramp says it is closed........the only ramp that will be open is the south dam..........and that won't be open until 7 a.m............I think it's because any boats that normally aren't on this water have to be inspected..........
Hi Everyone! Thanks for your time at the planning meeting last night. Attached are updated notes with activities and owners. Nikki Mossing Caputo, Aimee Jensen, Jeff Jensen, John Pape and Lisa White were not at the meeting but volunteered to help, so some of your names are on the lists.
Next Meeting: Tues, Sept 22, 7pm, My house: 1316 Teakwood Dr.
I've also attached a list of the committee members names and email contacts.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions.
Hey all. Just thinking rowing lately....read a Vespoli newsletter and a CII "Gear Up for Fall." Lots of time on Row2k recently too. Seems Pertti Karpinnen was rading at the World Masters Regatta. I'm not surprised he didn't call - and my Finnish is pretty shoddy anyway.
How do you feel about direct posts or having our members forward rowing vendor's e-ads, or newsletters to this group. Is it too much clutter? Is it too much information - - readily available offsite if you want it?
Is it good stimulation of a market we embrace? A time saver for first time trou shoppers? A reminder to use igive, or - what do you all think?
Hi Fort Collins Rowers,
the CSU crew is holding try-outs this week and has a larger-than-ever interest in rowing. this morning, there were 22 athletes at practice... this number may decrease later this week, but i suspect that we are going to be running short on boats as all the crews try to get in rows before the ache. can we use a system to sign out boats ahead of time? CSU is starting early (515a) and I don't want them to take out a reserved boat out before other rowers arrive. could we go back to using the google calendar or do people already know when they will need which boats (mostly the quad and the double?)??

I can't be physically present for the race since i'm working but i'll donate money towards the purchase of food. I'll also donate money to FCRA which can then be given to the EMS crew to thank them for helping at the race.

Greetings, I'm heading up the FOOD committee for the upcoming Horsetooth Ache (we're planning to provide light pre-event/breakfast y-type foods, and a light post-event lunch). In an effort to stretch our limited FCRA budget, we're seeking small food donations from club members (in addition to asking local businesses* to sponsor us).
Please email me if you're interested in contributing a small food donation...and I'll add you to our list. I'll be out of the state for a few extended weekend trips, so it would be easiest, logistically, for me to "assign" items (unless you have a particular thing you'd like to bring….such as ummmm **Maria's pumpkin chocolate chip bread** :-) In terms of quantity, I'll divide and conquer so it won't be overly financially burdensome on any one person (example: person A: 2 bunches of bananas; person B: 2 dozen bran mini-muffins) - seem reasonable?
* we've contacted several local businesses, and are awaiting their responses. If you have a special connection with any particular food business – we would welcome it!
