Let me know what 'inside' CSU response you get to this email appeal.
I have a couple of neighbours who, though not physically striking me as
potential rowers themselves, are faculty members. Bill
Black(biology/entomology) and Carol Seger(psychology)...anyone know them?
It's possible they are both on sabattical in the next academic year...which
I suppose could be good or bad for the group (?) and also effect their
willingness.
I have not asked these folk yet, but will sound them out if you want.
Probably more chance of you or Brianna (or the other guy) having a 'working
relationship' with faculty/grads.
My only other CSU contact (and actual friend) is Anne Hudgens...but she
seems very busy. I'm not sure if the alcohol issues would make her more or
less inclined to sponsor rowing, but can ask her, if that's OK with you. (Am
aware it's probaby best to avoid the "A" word in any sentence involving
student rowing). Possible she is not allowed to be potentially 'biased'
toward any particular student group?
I will wait to hear from you CSU people.
Who was the man in the beanie hat who seemed so enthusiastic and had quite a
bit of experience? I missed his name as I got there late, but think he
seemed like a great and earnest asset and hope he wasn't intimidated in any
way. He seemed genuinely excited at Marks offer to go out in a double with
him, despite claiming to only have ever learned sweep. Maybe he is
graduating...but maybe this club will give him one more reason to stay in
FC?
What Mark said about the community/private side getting going first made a
lot of sense.
I think we can all see we are going to need to trawl up some more local
talent/experience to get enough coaches to prevent Howard and Mark (and
friends) getting burned out in any way though.
Obviously more people will join (and pay) if they think there will be a
chance of actually rowing. And it seems people will need either a coach with
them -or enough experience (even some kind of 'certification'?- to be
allowed near the equipment. It's a bit chicken and egg.
The website would be a great way for Mark to field and filter local interest
(from investors and potential practical help as well as those wanting to
simply row) without being 'inundated'. I can understand Mark's desire to
hold the reins, so to speak on the FC side.
Bob and I will donate the money for the websites if necessary Nathanael, as
soon as you get the OK from Mark to go ahead, and some real concensus on
mission statement and background facts as well as intended
structure/overlap.
Until the web presence is there..should interested people be directed to
this Yahoo! group...or is it intended for the organisers at this stage?
Maybe we should just collect names, numbers and emails?
Of course, as we develop the websites, as you said...same
text/'branding'/logos etc can be used in other promotional material and that
will be the 'one voice' Howard was rightly keen on establishing.
I think everyone is agreed that no-one approaches any organisation for
sponsorship until we have our 'ducks in a row'.
Exciting that Brianna has a fledgling crew (and maybe some potential
coaches?) waiting in the wings!
Thanks everyone for your input/insights this evening.
It is inspiring hearing you talk of your fun and positive experiences in
this sport. Am hoping and feeling FCRowing/RamsCrew will be a win-win
realtionship. Good luck in your various meetings.
I can help with any technical drafting/proofreading of text if you need it.
Note that Luke has skills with Photoshop.
I can also help with early morning transport when it comes to it.
Best Wishes
Julie
