Canoers and Kayakers still needed Saturday, August 12 morning at Ho   Message List

Hi Everyone,

If you know someone who likes to kayak/canoe and would like an opportunity to participate in a big event on Horsetooth Reservoir this coming Saturday morning,  August 12, please forward this to them! The organizers of this exciting event are still looking for a few kayakers/canoers to provide accompaniment to swimmers who are swimming the entire lenght of Horsetooth.

For further information on the race, read below.
To sign up to canoe/kayak, contact John Tilliman at 495-0405, or visit the web site: http://www.whswim.com

The Wingshadow Horsetooth 10K, USMS National Open Water Championship will be held this Saturday, August 12th in Horsetooth Reservoir.
We are seeking kayakers and canoers to accompany the swimmers as they swim from the south end to the north end of Horsetooth.

The swim will start at 7am on Saturday, August 12th from the south boat docks.  This is the 7th year we are holding the event. You can find information on the event at our website (http://www.whswim.com). This year, we have won the bid for the USMS (United States Masters Swimming)
National 10K Openwater championship. This is a great honor.  We have
almost 100 competitors coming from 13 states. In past years, we have limited the swim to 50 swimmers but have increased the limit to 100 since it is the National Championship. The course will start at the south boat docks at 7am and will run along the western shore all the way to Satanka Cove at the far north end. We require each swimmer to be accompanied by a canoe or kayak to guide, feed, water and add visibility for boat traffic.
As you can guess, the start will be impressive if not chaotic as 100 swimmers and canoe/kayaks take off.
We will have Dive Rescue and the Larimer Park ranger motor boats
following the swimmers in case of an emergancy. Within a mile, the swimmers will spread out. The fastest swimmer will cover the course in about 2 hours while the slowest will take up to 5 hours (we officially close the
course at noon).
