Kayakers/Canoers and Rowers needed for Aug 12 at Horsetooth Reservo   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #147 of 367 |
Hi everyone!

I'm writing to inform you of another opportunity to row or paddle the entire length of Horsetooth Reservoir.

Saturday, August 12.  5:45am (rowing)  OR 6:30am (canoeing/kayaking)

On August 12th there's a great big open-water swim race that's swimming
the entire length of horsetooth., from the south end to the north end --
about 100 swimmers, each with an accompanying canoe or kayak. The organizers of
the swim race asked our club if we would be willing to have some rowing shells be present at the start of their race (7am at the south end of the reservoir) that day. As rowers, our only role would be to add some 'atmosphere' to the event at the start. It looks like some folks from BCR and RMR may come up to row it, and I'm writing to inform you of the opportunity also.

The preliminary plan is that we gather at 5:45am at the boathouse to
launch and row to the south end of the reservoir.  With that timing, we  should get to the south end just before the race -- to contribute the "atmosphere" -- then we hightail
it back to the boathouse just before or after the start -- all very flexible
depending on how crowded it is up there with 100 canoes/kayaks and swimmers.

If you're not up for the rowing, but would like to be involved in the event, the organizers of the swim are desparately seeking canoers and kayakers to accompany the swimmers. The race requires that each swimmer has an accompanying canoe or kayak.   With 100 swimmers, that's a lot of kayaks/canoes and paddlers that need to be found. If you have interest and/or know anyone who might have an interest in participating that way, please contact Joe Bakel at joe_bakel@...
