Hey Bro,

Glad to hear things are moving foreward with the match. "I" expected

At this up coming Las Cruces Match(26&27),will competitors be
allowed to shoot two guns? And if so would the competitor have to
pay an adittional 75 dollars? I plan to shoot my issued service
pistol but I would like to see if I could also shoot something else.

Jorge,

Bill and Tom are not from L.C., they are from Farmington.
Definately too far to go see what they have but email/phone should
do the trick just fine.

After numerous emails to Johnny and IDPA HQ with no reply I finally
contacted Johnny on his cell phone. He told me he would talk to
IDPA HQ about it and I have yet heard anything back dispite several
additional emails from me to him with no response at all. Needless
to say I am REALLY looking forward to seeing him in Las Cruces. I
can't wait to have a little chat with him man to man.

Silly me. What was I thinking. There couldn't possibly be any
connection between the lack of club growth and the reason that the
old members gave for no longer shooting.

Bill,

Thanks man, I'll do that. I haven't heard from Bill in a while
anyway so I guess I should say hey to him.

BTW, I really liked the personalized touch you guys had on the
trophies where you got them engraved with the names a couple of
years ago. I didn't make last years so I don't know if you did the
same.

See you in Las Cruces man,

Neal

Everyone:

As I sit here in smoggy, SOuthern California for a mandated gathering, with
my lungs gasping for more oxygen and my eyes watering from the chemical
composition that transcends the ozone layer, I have read the recent posts
with great interest.

Rip and I really are good friends, and we harass each other regularly. And
we respect each other, and we share ideas and many philosophies.
Admittedly, I have almost as many 1911's as Glocks, and I have one more
1911 on the way - more on that later.

The Glock vs. 1911 is going to be a enduring as the .45 vs. 9mm debate has
been, and continues to be. I say LET IT ROLL! As far as folks not coming
to shoot with us due to last year's Glock vs. 1911 debate - I say that is
bullshit. As you all know, I rarely use indelicate words on the net, but
this is used, appropriately, as an emphatic: BULLSHIT. Now, thnose people
who don't shoot with us anymore might USE the debate as their excuse, but
MY OPINION is that they didn't train nor practice enough and they didn't
like getting beat every match, so that was the true reason for their
inattendance - not the debate. Let us not try to dissuade the sharing of
ideas on this site, nor make people believe that left-wing style political
correctness is the expected fare for this site. We don't do it on the range
and we shouldn't do it here. As gentlemen (and women,) we, as a rule, do
not purposely try to offend. Some people have done that and, thankfully,
they no longer shoot with us either. Disagreements are nothing more than
differing opinions that come from different ideas, and as long as manners
stay in play, we should all agree or disagree at will.

So Rip - I respect your ideas and opinions, and I do NOT want you to keep
them to yourself - as misguided as some of them may be! ;-) And I would
likely never use a 1911's as a battle gun, and that is OK. I know that I
have two of my stable that actually work reliably. You now have two that I
know of. One is stock and the other has been worked on by a master 'smith.
One of mine has been worked on extensively by some folks as well as by me
over the years, and the other has been worked on by the same master 'smith
that worked on yours. However, there is NO reason that a NIB gun should be
sent away to be made reliable. THAT reflects on the design - because so
many of that design have to be sent in. There are many rich 1911 'smiths
out there, but it seems that very few support themselves repairing Glocks.
Am I the only one that finds this odd?

So let it be. According to some, Rip makes good martinis. I won't drink
the damn things. Doesn't mean that martinis should or should not be
discussed - or consumed.

Jerry wells brings an inordinate amount of both IDPA and real-world
experience to our little sewing circle. And he is from an "Alphabet
Agency," so I get to razz him about that. I must admit that he inquired
about Rip's status on the net rather than automatically launching into a
tirade. A true gentleman, Mr. Wells. Class act.

And for the record - Rip has not directly responded to why those 1911's
also have colored coatings upon them...

And Rip makes comment about the Marines now utilizing 1911 guns for battle.
Let us not forget that my fellow Marines were also given Reising sub-guns
once, which were better used as anchors than guns - so it would only go to
reason that they are using 1911's now. ;-) Also, Cooper On Handguns is a
good book - for its time. Cooper was good, for his time. Some, I'm sorry
- MANY of his thoughts are enduring. However, I do not believe that all of
them are. Cooper has also endorsed both the P-35 and the Glock as baattle
pistols - so some writings by him since the publication of his tome may
also need to be read. Cooper also says that at all times, the shooter, in
battle, will have time to see their sights. I wonder about that one. Ask
Jim Cirillo.

And yes folks, Dane Burns actually called me the other day and said that he
has started to work on my Springfield! ALERT THE MEDIA! Once he has
completed the work, it will still take 4 to 6 weeks to get the finish done,
but I am interested to see how it turns out. Never had a true "Custom" gun
built before. Not exactly, anyway. Some guns have had some work done to
them. Some more extensively than others. Some are still stock, but most
of those guns are Austrian polymer... Dane said that he puts 500 rounds
through the guns before they leave his shop to insure reliability. If it
fails once, he tears it down and re-builds it. I told him that he must go
through LOTS of ammo, since he works on 1911's. So I will update everyone
as to the progress (or lack thereof) on my Springfield.

Good to hear that LC is gonna get more folks at their match. That will be
better for us in the long run, I think.

Jorge: Get with Neal regarding the trophies.

I want everyone to know that Porta-Target repaired and then returned our
hostage tree, with NO CHARGES, to include not charging us for shipping.
They are really great folks, and we decided that we are going to at least
pay the shipping, which is $48.00. Troy is handling that. Porta-target
ain't the cheapest, but they are the best. As you all know, they are my
preference for darn near everything.

OK - Enough rambling for now.

Caseless ammo: I will admit to devoting a couple of years of my life to
the development and manufacure of caseless ammunition. Tank ammo is
generally caseless since spent brass is somewhat of a pain for the tank
crew. Also did R&D work on a 25mm round to replace the 20mm round used in
the Vulcan. Was to be mounted on the F15 Eagle but decision time came
before demonstration of viability. Also did some work on caseless Squad
Automatic Weapon System (SAWS) that was fun. Range time was the best part
of the job. I do not see the advantage of caseless ammo for a pistol
unless it is a binary system of high energy that will require only
projectiles to be loaded.

Back to handgun discussion: I will admit to being strongly influenced by
the book "Cooper on Handguns". Read this many years ago, reread it
annually, find nothing wrong with the logic even with the advent of
"advances" in technology. If a Glock Purple POS is your thing, go ahead.
Just like girls, everyone has their own preference. Thank goodness.

Commercial: My daughter was wondering why the nation honored Ronald
Reagen. Had to explain him to her. I will send a copy this to any of you
youngsters who may not have lived through this era. A great American.

I didn't know that some folks were sensitive enough to quit the club over a
discussion of pistol types and preferences. This is the last place I thought
that one had to be politically correct. I will my thoughts to myself.

Just when I think we as a club are finally over the stupid 1911 vs
Glock debate it rears its ugly head yet again.

Let us remember that the last round of "my gun is better then your
gun" BS cost us several members who no longer shoot with us.

Whatever gun you have confidence in and fits your hand best is the
proper gun for you. Almost any quality firearm (Charles Daily
doesn't count!) will work reliably. Personally I have no use
whatsoever for Sig, Beretta or Ruger, but that is just my personal
opinion. Neither the Sig nor the Ruger fit my hand well and it
shows in my shooting. My feeling on the Beretta is based off of my
experiences carrying it in the military to include in 4 different
hostile fire zones. I have not been impressed with either the sorry
excuse for ammo that the military uses or the pistol itself.
However, I have watched our buddy Pablo shoot the hell out of his
Border Patrol Issued Beretta along with one or two other shooters
who could really make their Berettas sing.

Very rarely have I seen the pistol be the deciding factor on who won
a match. The operator is the key, not the pistol that he or she
   chooses.

Rip, Dan, Dave and several others grew up with the 1911 and are
   extremely competitant with this platform.

Oz, Jerry and a couple of other LE type guys have been carrying
Glocks on a daily basis and are very proficient with them.

Troy could really make his duty H&K sing, even with that crazy ass
   duty ammo.

I know personally of one Glockophyle that has a .41 mag revolver as
his home defense firearm (GASP) !!!!

Bottom line: Shoot what you like to shoot and what fits you best.
If you want to rely on 93 year old technology then go right ahead.
I seriously doubt that a BG properly shot with a 93 year old pistol
will be any less dead then one shot with the cutting edge in pistol
   technology.

I love my Glocks as much as the next guy. However, I love the 1911s
I shoot in SSP and ESP just as much, not to mention my S&W 625 that
I shoot in SSR. I would love this one even more though if Troy made
   some revolver neutral stages :-)

Add my limited and open guns that I shoot IPSC to this list of guns
   that I love too.

Whatever gun you want to shoot is fine by me, just bring it along to
the next match and shoot away.

See you all at the range.

There is no reason for people to quit a club over which gun is best. That's a
very childish way to conduct your life. I was not nasty or accusative and I
would expect others to be respectful as well. I carried a 1911 my first few
years in LE. We did not have Glocks or several of the others to even shoot. I
would respectfully submit that anyone who gets emotional over the 1911 vs. the
Glock or any other gun should no be allowed to come with in 50 yards of any
firearm. They are not stable enough to carry a deadly weapon. You guys don't
know
me very well yet but I can assure you that you will find no cop more second
amendment or pro-right to carry than I. Those of you who take this past a
friendly discussion need to sit down in a dark room and reflect on your life and
its
purpose. If you like the gun you carry, carry it. It's a personal choice.
This club has some very decent people in it. I've not met many I did not like
and
want to spend time with like OZ and many of you others. To those of you who
take this seriously, get a life! A 1911 in the hands of a fair shooter is not
to be taken lightly. I perfer the Glock because my life has been asked of me
several times and I personally feel it is the best for me. Stop this fighting
and direct it toward gun grabers like Kerry, the democratic party and Sara
Brady (AKA The Bitch.)
