Atta boy Oz!
Maybe you could introduce him to the "scooter races" while he's here.
Clam shell would be cool, or one of those twist & turn, sprial
down targets.

I know what you mean especially on that stage. That is why when I
stepped through the doors I tried to take a big step in and beside
the first NS. That and I figured it was cover ;-)) for lack of
anything better that is ;-)).

Would liked to have seen that lighting fast first double on the NS
though. ;-)

I really buggered my second run on stage two. Did not settle the
sights at all and it showed with those BDs at the second shooting
position. First run had that 10-12" steel disk giving me probs. So
I slowed down on the steel and blew the rest on the second run... go
figure - just anther day of whacked out shooting ;-)) I mean who in
thier right mind would opt for head shoots ;-))

It was fun and I plan on doing it again sometime.

ST. PETERSBURG -- A 71-year-old man was arrested for firing a gun at
three men beating up his 63-year-old friend, striking one of the men
in the arm, deputies said.

Melvin B. Spaulding held up his .22-caliber pistol and told the men
to stop hitting and kicking his friend George Lowe. When they didn't
listen, he fired the gun, Pinellas County Sheriff's spokesman Tim
Goodman said.

"I'm sure he was concerned for his friend's safety...,'' Goodman
said. "The use of a weapon to stop a confrontation is not the right

All good trigger time, my friend. One just has to figure out what
they want out of each game.

Well at least there is a shooting part! No need to worry you wont
have any problems with it since there are no poppers ;-)). But who am
I to talk eh? ;-))

>
> Anyhow Jerry you forgot to mention that Jim besides flying in, also

=============
That is correct! Tired, you folks just plain wore me out! The mini
airshow he did and it was a nice break in the shooting. See what
happened was he (Jim) only shot one gun so he could get back. So
while I was screwing things up as no sane shooter would/could, Jim
came by and performed for us. At least it got my squad to stop
laughing at me for a few min. ;-)

Now that I had a wee bit of sleep and the wife thinks I should get up
with hte babe I have time to reflect. It was a slow stage for me
with my first gun I had a hostage at the start of my shooting jump on
a shoot target and I capped it in the nads. Now who would not either
hit the deck or runaway at the sound of gunfire? Someone out to
bugger me thats who. Then on the same stage I took an option no
other did and opted for head shots on the targets arrayed in the
second part of the stage. Guess what the freaking targets have a "A"
AND a "B" zone on the head! That is not even the worst part. The
worse part is I forgot a popper and a kindly man I owe much brew to
reminded me and since I was starting to show clear and had already
droped my mag I just threw the gun up, closed my eyes, said a quick
few words of hope to my Glock Shrine, and yanked the trigger. I gave
a sigh of relief and opened my eyes after I heard a glang. A weak
glang, but a clang never the less and what did I see? A popper still
standing! But it counted! So now I owe whoever threw the rock much
brew also! Thanks guy whoever you are! Actually I hit it and the
damn thing even fell. I think I should shoot that way more often,
eh?

BTW that was my best stage. It was worse on all the rest. The first
run on the classifier had a good time but after I said a few words in
ref to aw poppie I changed pistols and was NOT ready for the second
run with the second gun. Why ask one when a second gun for me anyway
is usally a good thing? Because I TANKED every stage worse then the
first run through. Reminds me of folks shooting the IDPA classifier.
Thinking I knew what I was doing - ha! Proved myself wrong with
nearly every trigger yank.

All that and a big grin on my face. It was fun, it was a blast and
plain time well spent. I did figure I need to order some new springs
for my mags but they worked. It has been a while since I last loaded
them all the way up so I down loaded them by 2 since the springs are
from 1988 and around 90.

Speaking of mags I only needed one reload per stage except for the
classifer which was 6 rounds. At the end and while taking off my
gear and the 12 mags I had strapped on it dawned on me why folks just
kept starring and pointing. Thought it was my nice butt at first and
had the 26 ready as my BuG just in case someone started talking about
that pig.

Hey Kev an crew it was fun and I appreciate all the work you folks
did from setup to admin to RO to break down and trying not to laugh
to much. ;-))

Lastly thanks for the invite.

I am glad you guys came over Jerry, too bad you missed dinner at
Palma's!!! We had a blast. Poor old Jerry spent the entire first
run confused, but dont let him fool you guys, he shot well.

I guess this proves that you can shoot both disciplines and have fun!!

I recently reupped my IDPA membership, specifically since I am going
to become a resident of Texas, I need a CCW, and I cant think of a
better game to shoot to practice for that endeavor. Hopefully I can
pass the shooting part of the process!!

Anyhow Jerry you forgot to mention that Jim besides flying in, also

Well I really went to Deming!

As we neared the place I tried to bail out of Troys Z28. Troy
figuring this was his best chance to be rid of me floored it! Well
it is one thing bailing at 75, but 100+ I decided I had plenty of
rounds and mags to make a fight of it if I even heard the
phrase "squeal like a pig" Long story short I had a great time!!.

Long story is I got up late, had to stop for gas at cold thirty, but
true to Troy's goodness he had a nice cup of java for me when we
linked up which I quickly spilled all over my tailgate. And that my
friends was the fastest thing I did all day!

After loading up, arriving and helping to finish setup, the temp
became very user friendly - thankfully! Well there were folks from
all over and one even flew his pvt plane in for the match. All were
good shooters cept me and I am sure the scores will reflect just that.

Thinking my second gun was fast and I just "KNEW" what was going on I
flubbed every stage with my second gun. Know what? It was still
alot of fun.

Really like the Deming range layout. They had 4 stages in 3
bays/areas. The 4th stage was part of thier classifier which Troy
did very well indeed on his first and only run. If any beat him it
was on their uptenth run (at least in our squad -I think) I flubbed
it with both guns - whats new, eh?

I tell ya that I can not think of any sport where a man will lay down
good money to ,make a fool of ones self but these shooting games just
have me coming back to do just that.

Suggest all to make one of Demings matches. You will have a good
time. If any is wondering will USPSA/IPSC be my game of choice the
answer is no. Part of my confusion was looking for cover etc. It
was a total blast though and I will do it again as funds come
available.

Had a wee bit of cross talk in ref to a TRI-CLUB and it sounds
positive but a lot of factors need to be looked into and the powers
to be will let us know ... hopefully soon.

Saw a few folks it has been a while since I last saw them and it was
good to see them again. Met the rest and like has been mentioned
where ever one goes there are good folks there and this match was no
exception.

To tired to go stage by stage. Hopefully someone will.

You have to read it from the bottom up.

Hello,

Well your reply is in direct opposition with this reply

  "Hello Jerry,

Hopefully the H.D party line will become known to all. I know I will
do my best to spread the word that not only is H.D not CCW friendly,
but they try and hide their views and when they do they don't even
bother with listing a name, worker I.D or other means to identify
their self.

If in fact this "Liza" person is out in left field then a statement
is recommended to advise all of this since Liza's post has been
forwarded to a great many people by myself and others.

The ball is in H.Ds lap. Either advise all employees that H.D allows
CCW holders to carry and post a retraction of Liza's reply or lose
countless customers.

Hello,
I have just been informed that HD does not support concealed firearms
carry by the legally armed customer. I am at this time verifying that
this is true.
If this is true then the shooting club that I shoot with will stop
purchasing building supplies from you and the members I have already
contacted have vowed to sale their stock, have their business
purchase from Lowes and just plain refuse to utilize your stores. Not
to mention to contact everyone they know and inform them of your
stance on not allowing legally armed persons in your store.
With all the items in your store that could do bodily harm a legally
carried firearm is by far the lest of your worries from statistics to
common sense.
We are in the hopes this stance in regards to firearms is untrue or
if so that it is revised to allow the legal carry of concealed
firearms in your stores.

Now all we need is pepper poppers that they actually fit on :-)

Actually I have two words for what we need from him

CLAM SHELL.

Actually it could have been one word but what fun would that be.

Gang:

I just spoke to Paul from Porta-Target - and I am working a deal. As discussed
at our meeting after the last match, I ordered us TWO MORE of the Pepper Popper
Crossbar things - the ones that show IDPA targets when the Poppers fall.

He is coming back in January to do some work for the P.D. (He is building them a
live fire 360 degree SHOOT HOUSE!)

Our Crossbars should make it on his truck on the way out in January, and
therefore we will NOT have to pay for shipping!

Is there anything else we need from them? Look at the Porta-Target website and
let me know. He can put about anything on his truck when he comes back, so now
is our chance to save on shipping.

As said before, I think Paul has the best steel in the industry - and they do
great work. Paying for his drinks can be expensive, however.

I am also going to have Paul look at our stands and our "tree" with the flopping
plates and steel no-shoot, to see what he can do for us. If it's too much -
then OK, but him looking at those things is free - except for the lunch and beer
I will have to buy him...

Take care -

Chris / OZ

Folks as some know I was hopeing in one hand and .. ah.. wishing in
the other for someone to update and consoladate the classifeir
scores. Well since Mike has worked on it for LC I felt the time was
here for me to just nut up and do it for us in case there was
confusion etc.

What I did was take all three sights postings of the classifier
scores and bounce them off of each other and edited and added as
required.

Before any gets to wondering I only did those who have shot a
classifier sometime or anther here, so if you never shot a classifier
here then I wont have your score(s) / classification. Hence I am not
trying to steal anys thunder.

If you shot more than one classifier in a Div. and only see one score
listed for it, remember you keep your highest score unless a major
disability pervents you from performing at an earlier / higher lvl.
In other words only your highest classification counts unless
something drastic has happened.

I will "try" and review my updates but if you catch a mistake please
advise.

Later,

Jerry

You may have not shot as well as everyone else but it looked like the
swinger stage is what cost you the most time and man I was there
hearing Oz speak of his beloved barricade and Dave thinking of the
cost of a new pc of plywood. I know that had to suck to be first up
for that stage. That is why I planned not to engage it while it was
swinging if I didn't have to - I was scared man of what Oz and Dave
would say/do if I hit the darn thing (barricade) If I am the acting
MD or SOing I am going to give them a FTDR next time. That was just
   pure wrong man ;-))

As far as a tougher bullet goes the only complaints I had heard about
the ST was in 9 being fired from a longer than standard bbl. STs
have been redesigned slightly over the yrs also. The STs are known
to be accurate soft shooting, and expand. Only problem I see with
winter use is the hole getting plugged. I don't really recall a
problem with clothing or not. The 230 Ranger would be a consistant
performer and as I mentioned the Corbon 165 powerball looks good.
Remember the hvr bullets in the 45acp normally tend not to lose as
much vel as the lighter and faster rounds. Anther you may want to
look at for a all around performer is the Fed EFMJ ( ithink that is
   what it is called).

I did and would carry STs in the winter.

K.C.:

I will ask Rob if he tested any 185 Silvertips. He tested a BUNCH of stuff, and
those may have been in the batch.

Historically, Silvertips in 9mm were terribly performers because they tended to
fragment upon impact. I just don't know what they did in .45. For certain -
the soft alloy picked up rifling well and they were the most accurate factory
ammo I every shot.

Bill Laughridge from Cylinder & Slide says that Officer's Models and similar
guns should run 165 grain .45 bullets for defense. You get a little more speed
from the lighter bullet in the stubby barrels, which makes them perform better.

Just food for thought.

Again thanks to all for pitching in. If it was left up to only a
couple the match would have took much longer and not been enjoyable
   at all.

(thanx, Jerry!,) Mr. Elniff opened up a can of Whoopass on us today -
and gave a FINE performance with his Combat Tupperware! Admittedly,
he used Neal's recipe for 9mm rimfire loads, as on one stage the
brass was actually trickling across the back of his right hand, but I
didn't have my chrony so we couldn't do anything more than call him
NEal for the rest of the match. ;-) Congrats to him; his practice
certainly showed today. Troy, that sandbagging scumm, actually stole
second place overall from a poor pauper! Consistent and smooth with
that HK, I must say. Good show, Troy!
   ==============
You know it is bad when Troy actually made a comment about that
brass ;-)). Now you know what I have been saying about Troy - he is
a sneak. Going to find a marker, cardboard and string I am and fix
him right up with that sign I commented about. ;-)

Trurh be known I felt compelled not to beat Oz with ammo borrowed
from him. An now you know the rest of the story ;-)) No not really
I got beat more or less fairly if you call being heckeled by all to
include Dave ;-)) I got beat - beat- beat. No biggie it was all
fun. You all missed a great time. Plan for the BuG and see you all
   there if not sooner.

BTW if any needs to know what is and is not allowed in BuG (Backup
Gun) the rule book is in our files section or you can go to
WWW.IDPA.Com and check out the rulebk there. Or just ask.

Cool thing is if you want to shoot and don't have a BuG we will take
your money and let you shoot a full size gun, though your scores wont
count for any standings or TG points. You will however have a great
time. Some folks, myself included always brings extra gear. Don't
count on me to have ammo though ;-))

   Jerry

   Oz,
does Rob have any results on the 185 gr Silvertip?
Kinda dig it, especially in the Officers Model.

Ammo and calibers I gotta jump in ;-)

I always liked the ST in 9/40/and 45acp. I know Oz is not fond of it
but that is his choice ;-)

I would think with the lower vel that the ST would be a good choice
for SD in a CCW situation. The 230 Ranger is doing very well also.
The bullet to try I think would be the 165 Powerball from CORBON. I
think the ST would do well but maybe the CORBON might be a little
better. For more all around use I think the 230 Ranger.

I always found the STs to be very accurate. Bottom line really is to
find what you and the gun can shoot well as long as it is a quality
SD load. Some are better (not by much and usally not worrying about)
but the gun must run and put them where you need them.

Sorry I butted in but like I said calibers and ammo....

Good shooting BTW. It had to be hell going first on hte swinger ;)
Should have just shot the damn thing for all the badgering we all got
   before the timer went off.

   Later,

   Jerry

Be interested in what you decide on and as to the why.
