He apparently can't imagine what a cone would do to your control of a
kart when wedged in certain places because you didn't have bodywork to
keep it out. I think that would be the "reasoning" he's looking for,
although I can't speak for the entire KAC.

It's not about "multiple engines", it's about any configuration that
has not been previously approved. Everyone has to go through the same
process to be allowed to use a non-classified kart. Perhaps if he
simply sent a letter, the KAC/SEB would combine the cc's of the two
motors to approve them being lower than 250cc's? (4 stroke
non-shifters under 250cc's allowed).

We didn't make this a litigious society, we just have to deal with it now.

I did not see any pictures attached, but it sounds like the kart has bumpers all
around, just not the new plastic kind.  Would help to see the pictures.  The
bumpers of the 80's are pretty safe if you ask me.  The plastics came later.

Here are some pics of the 'twin Briggs' kart.

I feel bad telling the guy he can't run the kart.
Seems quite 'unfriendly' to me.

Is there anything about the kart safety wise that would make you concerned?

Just trying to become more 'educated'.

Lindsay,

All right.

Rules are rules I guess, but forget it. Ain't worth it.

Please be advised this sour grapes blurb is not directed at you or RMS
personally. Please also forward to the KAC.

I read the rules but must have missed the part about the body work. That
kills it for me right there -- it would take several hundred dollars worth
of parts and welding work to add all that. My real question is "To what
end?" From what I saw at the last PPIR meet I went to, there's nothing
harder than a rubber cone to hit. The first thing I would do is ask for a
waiver of the body work rule since it's superfluous in Solo racing. I have
a sneaking suspicion it may be because SCCA wants to "keep up the look of
the neighborhood" . Eg: We don' want no slummin' yard karts.

I have a fairing I might be able to fit, but there's no provision on the
frame for side pods. There are stout nerf bars where the number plates are
attached. These will deflect any cone I happen to tweak. The purpose of side
pods are to keep karts from hooking wheels in close racing. There isn't any
competition to bump in Solo 2. I'd really like to know the KAC's reasoning
on this one.

The "no allowance for multiple engines" ruling is just baloney. What
difference does it make how many engines there are? My two Briggs perform
roughly the same horsepower-wise as a single two-stroke engine I saw used in
the Junior kart class, but the torque curve is completely different as you
may imagine. The acceleration is amazing. Well, I sure can't do anything
about that one -- two engines is what makes the kart what it is.

It's perfectly obvious there's no one in my class, nor will there ever be.
This was just for fun.

No chance in heck I'm going to petition a bureaucracy like the SCCA to run
in a few events.

Thanks anyway,

So, actually it is more aptly a "Twin Briggs" kart....

Well, unless the engines are set up for over 15 hp each, very unlikely
it could approach the performance of a normal F125-legal kart, including
the TaG versions which are accepted.

But without body work and visible numbers, it does not meet the
requirements put forth for karts in the rule book. Whether it could be
allowed under the concept of having a performance level which would
not exceed that of a 125 shifter kart is unanswered.... if the required
items were to be installed.

It's simply not a listed configuration, plus a front bumper and side
pods are required.

If someone would like to send a letter requesting the SEB/KAC to look
into, then they would need to do that.

Lindsay isn't looking to buy, he is responsible for the Solo program in his
region.

Considering the hardware its missing and Brian's statement it is not
allowed, I think the answer is clear it cannot be allowed to run until more
data is provided to prove its safe and within the performance range.

I would think the no front bumper would be a safety issue since even tho
everyone tries to make a nice safe course, there are solid objects that can be
hit if you try hard enough.

If it does not look like it would fall apart on the course let it run.  Reserve
the right to deny it next time if it could outrun a shifter, which is highly
doubtfull.

Lindsay, as far as the SCCA is concerned, that is not an allowable
configuration to run in Solo, performance aside. Until the SEB/KAC
can do some research, and that person (or any other) requests it, it's
not allowed to run.

Can anyone tell me about a 'Briggs Twin"?

Have a new driver entered in F125 driving a Briggs Twin.

I know Briggs makes twins, didn't know they were used on karts.

What is the performance level of a Briggs Twin?
Does it exceed that of a 'normal' F125 moto based shifter?

I apologize if this is all in bad taste. I just happened to come from
a strong autocrossing background along with road racing shifterkarts.
I figured I'd keep those that I used to see at the track updated with
all that's going on beyond what I used to participate in. Because
it's offending some people here, I will certainly stop e-mail the group.

I, for one, am weary of this spamming of the F125 list for the

commercial benefit of one person.

It is not what the list was created for. Whether or not the list

has been very active with discussion on the original subject,

autocrossing F125 shifter Karts, is not relevant to my objection

to this tiresome self-promotion.

AJ, I wish you well in your racing career. But enough with the

postings of your accomplishments/ requests for sponsorships

here, already! If you want to talk shifters.... by all means. But

if another page or press release hits here..... Arrgh!

Anyone else on this list had enough?

AJ Nealey Racing’s Decadent Proposal
Pop the Question on a Race Car

Edgewater, MD - February 9, 2009 - Suitors can now guarantee her heart

40 races, qualified on February 5 to join the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

“The big race now is for sponsors,” said Nealey who will be meeting
with potential sponsors to discuss the benefits of having their brand
on his car that will have exposure in print, TV, email, internet and
at 10 race tracks across the country. Sponsorship packages start at
$10,000 for a door panel graphic on the car for one weekend.

Hello!

I have some exciting news to announce. I have been selected to attend
the upcoming Driver Selection Event at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma,
California February 1-4, 2009!

I'd like to take this time to thank you all for your continuing
support through-out this process. We've gotten past Phase 1 and am
very excited to attend this event.

Now I need your support more than ever to financially compete in this
series. I'd love for you to check out my sponsorship proposal on the
series by clicking on the following link to let you become familiar
with the series and show you what it offers:

http://www.ajnealeyracing.com/AJNR/Sponsorship_Proposal_-_2009_Racing_Season.htm\
l

I am in serious need of some financial backing to be able to compete
in this series. In my view, this series offers the best bang for the
buck for your advertising dollar. It offers TV time along with racing
before large audiences supporting major league racing series like the
American Le Mans Series and the Rolex Sports Car Series.

If you or anyone you know is looking to promote his or her company,
product, or service in a unique environment, I believe I can offer the
best promotional opportunities by competing in this series. Please
call or e-mail me at ANY time if you'd like to discuss this
possibility for next season.

I appreciate your time and support.

Thanks and take care!

Yep. Chasecam paid out over $25k in 2008. Looks like 09 will be 10% of that
unless things improve. The economy is looking bleak for racing which relies on
sponsorships and mktg budgets.

In all seriousness, good luck in finding sponsorship. It's definitely not great

No problem at all! I wish Jeremiah all the best in getting into the
series. It's unfortunate that money has to be the driving motivation
to getting into racing...not necessarily talent anymore. Bill
Auberlin once told me "It takes money to get you there, but it takes
talent to keep you there." Sorry if I bothered anybody.
