Team Phil's Tire Service Sweeps Entire MARRS Season!   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #5173 of 5243 |
Hello,

8 wins out of 8 championship rounds in ITA for the MARRS season! The
PhilsTireService.com Honda CRX Si has gotten a work out this year and
it has finally paid off with a clean sweep for the season and
resetting the track record at Summit Point three times. This last
event this past weekend would still have its obstacles to overcome
though.

We had two qualifying sessions on Saturday and the weather was looking
very sketchy. Scattered showers were in the forecast and our first
session was definitely wet. I slapped on the Hoosier wet tires and
started first for the morning qualifying session. Extremely damp
conditions but I did my best to discover the traction on the racing
surface. I ran the entire session without incident and was second
fastest overall and first in ITA with a time of 1:38.4.

The second session had turned out to be the fast session of day. The
sun broke through the clouds and the track was completely dry! I
would be gridded second overall in the run group when we took to the
track. I was able to get in a few clean laps before running into lap
traffic and got down to a 1:27.3. This was good enough for pole in
ITA for Sunday's race.

The weather for Sunday wasn't looking good at all. We were the first
race group of the day and there was a constant drizzle occurring.
I've run into this situation before this season when I raced at Nelson
Ledges. With that previous experience, I knew that the wet tires
would be the choice to go with. Even if it did dry out towards the
end of the race, the tires would be able to hold up.

It proved to be the right choice as the green flag dropped. I passed
the ITS pole sitter, Jon Kofod, going into the braking zone at T1.
From there, I was hounding the three front running ITR BMW's. I
already opened a huge lead over the second place ITA car and decided
to run my own race without risking too much. As the race went on, the
track started to dry. The BMW's started to pull away and then the
full course caution came out about 15 minutes into the race. This
allowed the entire race group to bunch back up. This had me worried
because I had thought that I would be dead in the water against the
other competitors that had intermediate tires on. It didn't matter,
as the green flag dropped for the restart, I was able to pull away
once again from the rest of the ITA field, but Jon Kofod, who had
intermediates, was able to blow by me on the straight and pull away
from me at that point. I ran my own race and kept my nose clean. I
brought the car home in first place in ITA and won the ITA championship!

It's been an amazing season running with the Mid-Atlantic Road Racing
Series. It's an incredible group to run against!

The next event on the calendar is the ARRC (American Road Race of
Champions). I will again meet my biggest rivals in the form of Joe
and Bob Moser. It's my goal this year to beat them at their own
game. They know I have my sights set on them and this will prove to
be one of the biggest races of my career. It will take place at Road
Atlanta November 6-9. I encourage you to come on out for some
incredible racing.

Until next time, take care!
