Hey Hugo, welcome!
+1 for EKN.com
Your best tracks within reasonable driving distance would be either Oakland
Valley http://www.ovrp.com , Englishtown http://www.etownraceway.com , or
NJMP http://www.njmotorsportspark.com
As for costs, moto shifters can be inexpensive, but estimating is tough. If
the kart you buy has problems after you buy it, it can much more expensive.
So, sometimes spending more for a clean, well taken care of kart, with lots
of spares can be well worth it. Consider that when you're comparing a $3k
shifter to a $4-5k package.
If everything goes well, you're looking at one set of tires, and one top end
rebuild per season, as cheap as $300. However, that's if there's no
problems, but I have seen guys go several seasons like that before spending
money.
Others though, will spend as much as $1k a season on misc parts to keep
things running. I've had a season like that before.
A clean kart and a knowledgeable seller are good signs, especially if
they're willing to help you with setup and support after the sale.
