Grrr, Andy Bell's post to the FJ list got snipped!
Here is what I was forwarding:
As many on this forum know, there has been much discussion over the
last year about Formula Juniors and the opportunity to go to
nationals with our kids. The SEB and National office have decided to
include Formula Junior A and B classes at Topeka this year (See the
just released FasTrack) in an exhibition class. The format for the
solo Nationals is still to be decided, but we have some guidelines
for being eligible for the Pro Solo Finale.
For those of you with Formula Junior drivers that are interested in
attending the Pro Solo Finale, there will be a class for both FJA and
FJB in Topeka for the kids. It has not been officially announced(It
should be coming soon!), but we have been given permission to let
everyone know due to the timeliness of the D.C. Pro Solo registration
opening on February 25th (12:01am CST) and the fact that it is likely
to fill quickly.
In order for a Formula Junior driver to compete in the Pro Solo
Finale, the driver will have needed to attend two Pro Solo events
during the season. This requirement is to insure experience with the
format as well as show commitment just like the rest of the
competitors. Unlike the normal classes, they will not receive points
in their class during the season, but will become eligible to compete
in the Finale. Our goal is to keep this fun for the kids and not
build undue pressure on them or the parents to win. (much like last
year's pro solo events for every junior class, for those that ran).
If you're unfamiliar with the format, a Pro Solo is two 30 second
courses side-by-side, built as mirror images of each other. Two-
drivers stage next to each other at a drag racing style "Christmas
Tree". Each driver takes a total of six runs on the left course, and
six runs on the right course throughout the weekend for a total of 12
runs (4 in AM Day 1, 4 in PM on Day 1, 4 in AM of Day 2). Your total
time is your best Left side added to your best Right side for the
weekend. If you have any questions about the format, please post
them to the list and we'll answer them as best we can.
