I know it's a little early to start thinking about spring, but I just
got an e-mail from Carey (he runs CUJO), and here it is:

Just a heads up, as it is all about us and what we make of this
experience. Please communicate with me and your teams if there are
issues. Most of the time it is the lack of communication that gets in
the way of success.
I want to get the information out before the season begins so we
will have a better year this than in the past. I am trying to get a
Pre-season tournament together on March 18th. I know the weather is
sketchy, but we have a short season, so we need to try to push limits
if we can. Details will follow, but I want the winning team to get
some free memberships (discs and shirts!!!) or something. I would
love to have the shirts ands discs done by that time, so I will need
estimates of teams and memberships sometime in January as the orders
will be going out sooner so the schwag is in our hands the whole
season. Please, please respond to this inquiry. Let me know that you
received it and if you have new contact info or whatever. I don't
have all phone numbers so if you get this and respond please include
that in your info. Check out the web site...
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CUJO
Carey
Grateful for your cooperation and support.
Knowledge speaks, wisdom listens.

I want to win this tournament, this will save each member of our team
$25, which, if we don't win, some of it will have to come out of your
pocket. Show up to pick-up (Sundays, 2pm, @ Sheridan and Foster), or
the friday fieldhouse dates that I post, we aren't going to have very
many more. Also, you could start running or something. If he does
organize this, our practices will start around early March/late
Februray, and I would advise light, warm winter gear.

yes, but actually I think Dave told me there was a 70-80% chance that he could come (not that he was going to be late).

Hey Max
About my form that I still need to turn in... I've been waiting for an opening for an appointment for an examination, and I finally got a date, but it's on the twenty-eigth, so that would be the soonest I can get my form to you, if I see you later that day. But I WILL get it to you. Also, could you tell me more about how the club teams work (as in how often and when they usually practice and have games and stuff)? I am interested in getting involved, but I have many other things that would be going on at the same time, and I want to get a better idea as to whether or not joining/trying out for a team would be practical.
Thanks

Contray to fall practice, we will be running differnt types of

Saturday at Bunker Hill, the year before that on Sunday's at Bunker
Hill, you can count on 1+ games each week (probably at Bunker Hill),
and at the end there is a tournament to decide the state champions
(us). Now I have fieldhouse space next friday from 6-8 pm, and I
would GREATLY reccomend coming. Tell anybody you see on a regular
basis that has shown up this year to ultimate practice to come.
Fieldhouse space is a huge privilage, everbody wants it, and I got
it, so show up and make me want to get it again. You may notice you
can throw it further and more accurate in the fieldhouse, this is
because there is no wind. Take advantage of it. Water fountains
are right there, it's warm, and light. You barely get to play in
the winter, and you will show me that you're dedicated and I will
put in a good word for you if you decide to try-out for a club team
that will be forming this winter (we miss school and go all over the
midwest (possibly to Colorado this year if we get enough $$$)).

Everybody, our first fieldhouse date is Nov. 17th (a friday, sorry, it
wasd the best I could do) from 6-8 pm. I would highly reccomend
showing up for several reasons. It is warm, light, there is water, I
will bring snacks, you're not going to be playing ultimate very much
in the winter, and if you show up, that will tell me that your
dedicated, and I will pass that information along to a youth club team
that will be forming soon (they travel all over the midwest, you get
to miss school, and tons of other fun things). So if you go to their
try-outs (which isn't associated with the school at all), they will
already notice you and you will have a better chance at making the
team. If you do plan on trying out, it will be really hard to join,
every high-schooler from Chicago that plays ultimate will want to make
the team, but still, even if you don't make the team, you can be
playing good ultimate. I will let everyone know when try-outs will be
and where. Anyways, show up to the fieldhouse.

Everyone needs to get the Extra-Cirricular Activity Code sheet into
myself of Doc. K., even if you have turned in another one for a
different club or sport. Also, unless you have turned in the Athletic
Permit for another sport, you need to turn this in (again, to myself,
or Doc. K.). Both of these forms must be in if you wish to play on
the team in the spring. Also, I need to get these forms by Nov. 16th
at the latest. If you can't get an appointment w/ your doctor, you
can scheulde one in the Haelth Office, and get it signed there. I
NEED THESE FORMS!!!!!

Max,

I wanted to fill you in on the forms issue. Because
this is a school function currently, the school has
liability issues - responsibility for all of you
getting hurt and the like. Those physical forms mean
that the school is being responsible and ensuring that
you are fit and able to play. Since I'm the
responsible middle-man, ultimately, I'm responsible.

If the team is 'disbanded', that will mean that
ultimate is no longer a school sanctioned activity.
you will not be listed on the daily bulletin, nor can
you otherwise advertise at school. if we had field
space at school, we'd lose it (no big deal there).

That doesn't mean you can't play frisbee however, as
I'm sure you're aware. But the responsibility falls
back to the parents.

I am still happy to serve as sponsor, but I can't do
so without those forms. Help me spread the word. Are
you still going to get together on Monday even without
school in session? I could come around and talk to
everyone.

I need you all to turn in both physical forms and extracurricular code
forms. The physical forms may be obtained in the athletic office, and
require a physical within the past 12 months. the second form may be
obtained in E102, and I have about a dozen of these. the code forms
require only yours and your parent/guardian signature.

Sorry about the rainy day. I really enjoyed meeting and playing with
you all last week and I'm looking forward to the next time. I'm
headed to Charlotte tomorrow morning, so I'll miss Wednesday. I'll
be back again for next Monday's practice.

In the meantime, I'm planning on playing pickup on Sunday this
weekend at Long Field on the NW corner of the Northwestern Campus.
Everyone is welcome. If you want to come a little early to get help
on throws or whatever, let me know and I'll be happy to meet you.

One suggestion for practice: I always think ultimate is more fun with
a little music. Bring a stereo along if you can - either that or I
can back my car up on the field and play it loud. Also, bring a pair
of shorts - playing in jeans is questionable at best.

Good first practice, nice to see that everyone could throw a forehand
w/o having me to teach it. If everyone who says they will show up
shows up I think we will have enough for 7's (wohoo) however we don't
have a field for 7's. I'm going to try to talk to Vosnos again in a
week. Also, how would people feel about playing New Trier in a couple
of weeks after we get the basics down (stack, force, rules, kinda
tweaking our game a bit). I know that this is early to talk about,
but I feel that if we have a reasonable deadline it will give us
motivation through out our practices, and we'll work harder to beat
them (they are going to have a really good team this year).

we should definitely get fliers up asap, possibly even for the first day of school. We need to improve our image as a team, because most people I talk to know there is an Ultimate team, but thought of it as a club where we just throw a frisbee around after school. To improve on this, I think its important to emphasize on the flier that we actually have a coach (we still have a coach, right?). Also that the first meeting is for information, and not a practice (of course it could be both). I can help make the fliers if you want, too.

Actually we don't have school on the 4th so perhaps Wednesday the
sixth should be our first meet. Hope to see you all there.

So, it is that time of the year again. I am going to talk to the new
assitiant athletic director, see if we can get field/fieldhouse
space. I want to put up flyers again this year (although it didn't
really help last year), so if anybody has any suggestions about what
should be on the flyers tell me. If anybody cares, we go in the pilot
this year. Maybe our first practice will be the first Monday of the
year. Everyone meet in Dr Kohnken's room (H315). I will try to bring
food and/or drinks, and I will bring this nice dvd I got over the
summer that we can watch for 10-15 min.

Hey, I just realized that we (EvUl) have about $180 in cash from the
jerseys. Any ideas about what we should do with the money? Keep in
mind we have an unknown amount of money from the booster club thing.
If we do hold a bake sale or something, we would have more money.
